Well, if you read all the 1 star category horror stories, I too fell into that category. The first loan officer didn't do his job properly, misrepresented himself and ghosted me. I complained to his boss and that stooge ghosted me after a few weeks. I called again for the third time being extremely frustrated and having sent over all the required documents several times... I finally got a wonderful guy named Trey Alvarez to help me out with my loan. I would hope that he finds another company to work for because he is amazing,he listenes and is with you 100% all the way. It took 4 months for this to get funded. Trey was only with me for a few weeks. However he did his job the way he knew it should be done. So this review is absolutly not for Sovereign lending, it's only for Trey Alvarez. Job well done Kiddo. I would leave 5 stars, but that would make Sovereign look good and They were hard to deal with. SO choose Trey, YOU WILL BE IN GOOD HANDS with him. read more

This company seems desperate. Makes me wonder if they are about to go out of business. They are a pest. I've been getting regular spam emails from them and 3 phone calls just this week with VERY PUSHY people on the phone. They start out asking for me without first introducing who is calling. I ask who is calling and they say Sovereign and that they are calling because I expressed interest in a loan. NO, that was 3 years ago, and your information is very old. But quickly they say there are changes in the market and do I still live at xxxxxxxx. I tell them.... Look, I didn't use you 3 years ago because you were terrible during the initial phase, so I used someone else, so I don't need a loan and there is no possible way you can beat my interest rate since rates are now triple what I have. So leave me alone. They then say, but we like to give you a "free" review. I have to say again, take me off your spam list and stop calling. You are too pushy and rude and not listening to what I am saying, so I will never use you in the future. I hang up. Next day another idiot from their company calls. I have to block their calls. I suggest not using them. This desperation is a big red flag to me. They were terrible 3 years ago and still are today. This place is horrible! THEY DO NOT PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFO! I receive a packet in mail with someone else's loan docs!!!! When I called them, being concerned that someone has all of my personal info, they told me that they told me not worry since they never intended to mail any documents to me. REALLY???? Why did you have an envelope addressed to me in the first place. Rating would be "0" if allowed! Contacted them thru Lending Tree. Wanted a simple Re-Fi at a lower rate, leveraging my high income; high assets; and very high (800+) credit score. Initial conversation with Kahlil Dawson was good, so I OK'ed them pulling credit and sending me an estimate. Though promised immediately, I could NOT get numbers for two weeks. Then a full package arrived, showing they would Re-Fi my 3.25% 30-Year Fixed, (Get this:) to a 3.25% 30-Year Fixed!! (no kidding!) for a "mere" 2.785 Points (that's almost $21,000 in lender fees & points!) MANY phone calls from them, from OTHER agents. Clearly Disorganized. A couple agents were apologetic for my experience. I offered to speak with management, duly noted, but never got a call. WORST experience I have had! RUN, don't walk! read more

Chris Mata assisted me with a 30 year refinance quote. Chris was professional and knowledgeable on all questions I asked him. I did not feel pressured or over bombarded with information. Chris definitely knows how how to easily break down refinance concepts to someone not in the business (like myself). In my particular situation it did not make financial sense to jump ship to this lender. However, I am grateful for the excellent customer service and this is why I am taking the time to write this review. I would definitely recommend Chris to family and friends based on my interactions with him via telephone and email. WARNING - SLG will promise you the Sun Moon and Stars during initial conversations and then change it up at the last minute. My closing costs when up by $4k between negotiated loan estimates and final disclosures WITHOUT SLG notifying me about it or bringing this change to my attention. Fortunately i was able to identify the change in terms during my final review, but i fear if i was less financially savvy i would not have noted it, which is probably their M.O. Typical bait and switch tactics. I decided to rather pay a little more and refinance with a more reputable and trusted financial institution and as a finance professional I recommend you do the same! read more

I was lied to me about EVERYTHING from how much my payments were going to be ( they changed it three times) to paying off my credit cards. They didn't pay off my cards like they said they were going to and everything was supposed to be completed by the end of July but didnt get done by Aug 8th. When I called about them not paying off one of my cards the person handling my loan told me a check was in the mail and I would get it in two or three days for the one credit card they didn't pay but the the check never arrived and was never made out or put in the mail.When I called back they said I was just out of luck because they were not going to pay it. I'm a 69 year old disabled Veteran with PTSD and a crippled arm who put my trust in this company to helped me with a better life with out the credit card bills but instead I was left in worse shape the when I started. My credit score is ruined now and the creditors are breathing down my neck because Sovereign lending was late on paying things. I don't know why they just straight up lied to me. This was the worst refinance I've ever been through my original mortgage with Veterans United was really great they worked fast and told me the truth about what they were going to do,their loan officers didn't lie about anything they even paid my closing cost which saved me thousand ( this is just my opinion and I'm allowed to have one, for veteran who is looking to refinance their home I would look at Veterans United) I'm just want my fellow Veterans to get the help they deserve and not have to go through the horrible experience I had to go through. read more

Sovereign did a pointless hard credit pull on me, during the week of July 26. The Sovereign rep who called me told me I would be almost certainly eligible for a VA IRRRL at my desired interest rate, and that the credit pull was the last step. (So I gave verbal authorization.) The credit pull came in as expected. However, the Sovereign rep then told me that I would not qualify for the VA IRRRL because I would not meet the 36 month breakeven guidelines. This was infuriating, because this information could have been completely known, and communicated to me, without the need to do a hard credit pull. My credit scores are in the highest category, and did not cause my rate to be lowered. In short, Sovereign did a needless hard credit pull on me, basically because the rep I talked to was slipshod in his approach. Later, when I complained, the rep said that the rates could not be confirmed without the credit pull. Yes, true, but very much beside the point. In this case, the credit check was not needed, since I wouldn't have qualified for this VA IRRRL with Warren Buffett's credit scores. But the Sovereign rep did the credit pull anyway. During the process of this loan I experienced the worst customer service and most unprofessional people possible. I will say in the end it worked out, but the process was a roller-coaster ride of ups, downs, and everchanging loan agents. Thank goodness for Tiffany Del Gado. SLG has left a response with a generic response to call an 800 number to make it right, however nobody knows about it as the number is to nobody specific and I struggle with how you can make it right after the loan closed. If a company had a genuine response to address the issue I would have been inclined to give them the opportunity to make it right. read more

These people send mailers out to me vaguely looking like government documents; labeled "VA Benefits Eligibility Notice", and "important personal and confidential information enclosed". Upon opening it it is clear that it is simply an advertisement for a VA Refinance loan. Obviously someone who would refinance a VA loan is already aware of such a thing as a VA loan. Not sure what benefits they are supposed to be giving notice of.... In addition, how on earth does a generic solicitation contain "important personal and confidential information"?? Such advertising techniques strike me as inherently dishonest and shady. Really just designed to get someone to open the envelope to determine whether in fact there is some new benefit they are entitled to, or whether the notice does in fact include personal and confidential information that must be safeguarded or shredded. Nonetheless I contacted them to look into the program they offered and it appears that the advertised product rate is not very easy to obtain, unfortunately. read more

My experience with this place is horrible. The person who helped me, his name is Kenneth Parker. When he approached us, he was very proactive and responsive. But the moment we did the appraisal, he just disappear. We tried to emailing him and texting him. Not a single reply. And in the end when we could get a hold to him. Took 250.00 yet never sent me anything. VA said that they could not do what they promised. Have not gotten one more communication from them. I called and was told quoted rate wasn't available. I will complain to the VA IG and license overseer in state's where the loan officer who took my money and ran is licensed. I was told this was refundable and for VA appraisal. Had to give 5 stars to Sovereign Lending Group. Billie Shine, Lisa Ballard and Benjamin Brewer all worked together to help close my loan at an unbelievably low rate. I am very grateful for all their efforts and for helping me with this loan. I had been working with another lender that was taking forever. I switched to Soverign Lending for a much lower interest rate and closed in about 6 weeks while the other lender just told me they are ready to set up closing (over 4 months after starting the process with them and after they said it would only take 30 days to close my loan). Unbelievable. Again, the company tries to be deceptive: while the address may be on the letter inside the envelope, there's no company name or return address on the envelope so one cannot easily identify or return the unwanted letter to the sender. Also, trying to drum up business in a response to a review is very off-putting. read more

I will not recommend SLG to my friend. First, they keep spamming me with phone calls if I don't response. Once I picked up, they will start marketing their meet or beat program and direct me to their loan originator. They started asking all the question about my financial status, but they won't give me any estimate or information unless I authorize them to pull my credit to do a financial analysis. Once they got my report, they don't share that with me. In my case, I already had a pretty good deal with my current lender. The loan originator replies me that they won't be able to match and disappear. Funny thing, I am still receiving the spam calls. read more

We were shopping around for a rate reduction and we had a pleasant conversation with Maria. Truth be told we did not know what we were getting into. My wife and I are first home buyers and I am a veteran. We didn't know much about IRRRL or anything about refinancing with as a veteran so we would've liked some answers. Maria with all her eagerness for our business, started a loan process and checked our credit score. We were unsure about moving forward at that point and halted talks for the moment. She then contacted me told me about a $1000 incentive meet or beat, Jared a supervisor who I'll talk about later, on interest rate and or monthly payment. Again we were not confident with working with SLG just yet so we kept on looking and gathering any information we can. The next few weeks were awful. Everyday since we have last talked to Maria, SLG had us on autodial at least 3 to 5 a day. The first few days, I though Maria was just as eager as we saw her as. I would have promptly gotten back to her the next. When my wife was unable to contact her since she works night shift and I had meetings, I would have gotten back to her the day after. I saw phone calls from the same number, not from Maria's direct line, call me several times in succession all throughout the day. I google the number and found out it was SLG. I don't know how far along we were in their loan process, but i guess it was far along enough to where they needed to call me at that 3 to 5 times a day rate. I was contacted again via email nearly two weeks later by Peter. He was polite and professional with his email and said that my loan approval was expiring. I didn't know or think that I had a loan application that far along with them to have a loan approval expire. My fault that I see in that process was letting Maria check my credit score and she filled out whatever documents to push it along. Other lending group who was nice enough to give their expertise told us that she shouldn't have done that. Done what I believe was check my credit score and or go that far along with the process. They also said that if they knew the IRRRL process, that wouldn't have been necessary yet. After we talked to our current lender and getting the rate and monthly payment reduced, I called the number that was autodialing me. Almost a month has passed and the rate of calling stayed the same at 3-5 M-F. I had the pleasure to talk/vent to Jared. Like a supervisor, he tried to tell me that as an enterprise that the way they handled it is the way other lenders would've handled it. The bombardment of calls via autodialer was to ensure that I can get ahold of and to be contacted via changes to rates and other things pertaining to the loan. To me, that's an impractical way of personal relations because all you see us is a tally to your business. He also told me that they handled millions of millions of dollars each day and that SLG wants to ensure that I get the right savings for my loan. All that tells me is that my business is not important enough to be personal with 1 loan officer that we started out with. The incentive would be nice to get, but the way they handled everything was awful. I wished for them to do things better like lessen the frequency of the calls to at least once a day or once every other day. If people are really wanting to refinance or look for a loan, they would get back to the lender asap to get it done. Jared did nothing to alleviate my concerns. I might be going off on a tangent, but SLG really left a horrible taste in my mouth and hope that others looking for a lending group find better help. They charge for an "appraisal" but you dont do an appraisal and if the loan doesnt go through you dont get your deposit back. By definition a deposit is not payment. And I am VA so not sure why they charged me. Also they had to redo my loan after I signed my final documents as they were not allowed to do the loan in the first place. I guess you have to wait a certain time before you can refinance with VA and they did it too soon. Looked them up, they got in trouble with the VA for funding loans too soon! I just completed the refinance for my condo with Sovereign Lending Group. I normally go to one of big banks however I thought I would give this a try.. My loan processor Billie was amazing and kept me up to date every step of the way. From my initial call with Mahmud, my loan originator, to funding took precisely 21 days.. They were even able to send a mobile notary to me since I was not available to come into the office to sign the closing documents. I highly recommend Sovereign Lending Group. read more
