Service was good. Restaurant had a bit of an odd smell. Rolls were o.k. The rice wasn't pressed enough and each piece of my caterpillar roll wasn't cut all the way through making each piece fall apart when I went to pick it up. Edamame looked like it's kept in the freezer because some pieces were pretty freezer burned/browning/questionable looking and just not fresh looking. Let me start with this location used to be great. Well, there seems to be an exception made. Upon entering we got wafts of spoiled fish and dirty shoes. Not a great first impression. We should have also noted that there were only 2 other tables seated on a Sunday. We had already decided on sushi or this would've been a great time to head towards the exit. The rolls themselves weren't bad but you could tell they weren't moving the fish and several had the skin still on the fish cuts. I was disappointed since we brought family along to try it. If you can just move along and try another place. I'd say they will close this location down if it continues. The service was attentive and the food was correct so I will give it the two stars only for that reason. read more

Disappointed in Nama since my last review a year ago. Recently we came in and the menu changed. They no longer mark items as gf or vegetarian or vegan. The whole vegetarian section of the menu is gone. The only roll that's even still on the menu is the spicy shiitake. However I can still order the Marley roll and the Tofu Caprese (sans cream cheese). I'm thankful for that. But if I didn't know those rolls existed, how would I know to order them? My husband wanted edamame, and we had a conversation in front of the waiter about how every time we order that, it's mushy. He told us it was "looking good today". Spoiler alert: it was mushy again. It was so over cooked the pods were wrinkly. He said they steam them the same amount of time whether they are frozen or not. He offered to bring us new edamame. What's the point to get mushy edamame again? We declined and he took away the less than half eaten plate of them. When the bill came, we were still charged for them. Husband ordered a beer and the waiter had to be reminded after the edamame incident that he hadn't brought it yet. Once our rolls came, there were no soy sauce plates and we had to hunt down a chef to get some. No side plates were brought to put our sushi on, so we were left to balance each piece on our chopsticks and hope to not drip or drop on the way to our mouths. On the way out the floor seemed like it had been mopped with a greasy mop, as my rubber tennis shoes were slipping on it. Not good. Come on Nama, you can do better than this. I hope? Rating a solid 4.5/5 experience based on the bar top / sushi only dinner. The staff was very nice and checked in often enough (sometimes too much is off putting). The inside looked very clean and i felt good about eating sushi there based on the appearance. The sushi itself was on par for Nama (really, really good!) The location itself does require a bit of working through a commonly congested area, but hey, I'll take sushi in this spot any day. Will be back! read more

Always appreciate a biz that keeps it real! Ordered the crispy veggie roll, crab dip, and crunchy shrimp roll. My to-go order was ready at the time promised. Crab dip app-Don't do it. Faux crab stick and a velveeta-esque tasting cheese. It was not an appetizing combo and quickly congealed into a plastic chunk. Avert your eyes, y'all, 'cause this dip isn't pretty (or tasty). Let's be honest, people aren't coming here for cheese, though! Onto the sushi action... The veggie roll was fine. Some of the veggies were a bit undercooked but it was otherwise good. I do not think this roll was worth full price and am curious if any of the veggie rolls on the menu are included in the half-off deals. The crunchy shrimp roll was great! Honestly, nothing super unique that you can't get elsewhere, but well-cooked and rolled. Would get this again. This probably would have been a 3-star without the half-price deal. We stopped in here because we were in the area and decided to try it. So far sushi in Knoxville can be hit-or-miss... mostly misses though! This was mid-afternoon on a Saturday, there was only a handful of customers there at the time. The place is clean and pretty big inside. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered a Seaweed Salad to start while we looked at the menu. We ended up ordering some Sashimi and a Caterpillar roll, which was made pretty quickly. My family and I in Knoxville (at Drury Inn) for the week. Our hotel is near Nama and when driving by in evenings, the restaurant always looked busy(a good sign). Thursday night we decided the 4 of us go, and it was busy too. Just let me say this was the best shushi/fusion Restaurant I have been to in such a long time, and I use to travel all Over the US for business. We ordered anything that sounded and looked good and a couples a rolls more than once. My two kids and wife loved it as much as I did. My wife and I had hot sake which was delicious. The food preparation was exactly like the pictures and various tastes. 12 yo ordered the "Drunken noodle" full of shrimp veg and very delicious not too spicy flavor that he couldn't even finish entire bowl. My youngest son's dessert (cheesecake) was more flavorful than just typical. Service was 5*. While the bill high, some rolls were on "1/2 price" menu while other items were higher than other prices I've seen but smelled and tasted fresh and was delicious so as a treat on our trip, it was well worth it. We as a family all had fabulous delicious time. we were the last ones to leave at 10:15 pm(arrived at 8pm with 20-25 minute wait). Definitely worth the experiences and a definite YES on our return to Knoxville. I don't mind paying for something that is worth the cost but it's not just the food but atmosphere, service and timelines of delivery of our meal. Execution was top tier By staff. Due to Yelp reviews I went here while visiting Knoxville on a work trip. The bartenders were good - unfortunately the food was not. The Miso soup had no flavor at all. I love seaweed salad (wakame) and I have never had a portion the size of a baby's head - not complaining but weird. If it weren't half price night I'd say the sushi would a little pricy. Don't get me wrong, it was very good sushi and the rolls were very flavorful, but $18 for one roll of on any other day seems a bit much. Taste wise, each of the sushi rolls ordered were very yummy and didn't fall apart after dipping them in soy sauce which I find happens quite frequently. One thing I found interesting was on half price night rolls only came out one roll at a time per person and they wouldn't bring the next one until you finished the first. I understand they don't want people wasting it but it would've been nice to have more than one roll at once to try/compare them or so I could just eat my entire meal at once. At the end of the day, I would still pay for everything I ordered. I do think I will return in the future on half price nice for my sushi fix, the service was good, and there was plenty to choose from. Great place for sushi on Mondays or Thursdays! read more

First time trying. My best friend and I was running errands and decided to try this out. The service was amazing. Everyone was friendly, we were sat quickly, there was not many people so we were able to sit in a area where it was just us. Our waitress was amazing she recommended the crab and Asiago dip and she knew what she was talking about . I missed it the first time (thought there would be another entrance around). Lots of parking space. Reservations can be made, but I never seen it packed besides the first few weeks of its grand opening. FOOD: Wasabi Hummus (3/5; served with pine nuts, sriracha, cilantro oil, daikon, red pepper and naan): Definitely an interesting combination!! My friend enjoyed it more than I did. Would I personally buy this combination from a local groceries? No.. I love my Trader Joe's jalapeño hummus. Good appetizer choice though. Pizza Roll (2/5; crab, smoked salmon, avocado baked with tnt sauce and topped with bonito flakes, scallion, and eel sauce): It was good in the beginning, but my taste buds changed halfway. It's like 3:1 ratio of sauce versus the sushi content. I'm not even sure if I remember tasting the crab and smoked salmon. 8 pieces. Soy Joy Roll (4/5; spicy tuna, seared albacore, cucumber, tempura crunchies, wrapped in soy paper topped with fantasy sauce, eel sauce, wasabi aioli and scallion): This was recommended by our server. Triple Sea Roll (5/5; ebi shrimp, spicy tuna, cucumber, carrot topped with fresh salmon, avocado, and japanese seven pepper): Best roll I tasted from Nama! I always order this. Very fresh flavor. Great ratio with more flavor from the tuna and salmon. Recommend this - MUST GET. Philly Roll (2/5; smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado topped with scallion): I'd skip on this. There are better rolls than this unless you really like California roll, then pick this as a new alternate. 8 pieces. Very good curry (lychee duck and shrimp pumpkin), though a little sweet for my taste...and it's pre-sweetened with sugar, so you can't get it sugar-free although the menu has that option to select for your meals.
