It wasn't crowded inside, there are a lot of seating options for big or small groups. Several tables could seat at least 6. Michael was bartending when we went. He did a great job at making us feel like locals! He was attentive even though it was quite busy from people coming in from the parade. The arcade area was pretty cool. Each side had a bar, but only one was open at the time we went. We didn't get food, but it looked like they had some yummy options from what we saw get delivered to other tables. The music was good. Give a 4 but was really thinking 3.5 stars just because of the food (I didn't order any drinks and it was a quick stop in). I saw the ramen on the Yelp pictures and it spoke to me, so I walked in and ordered some. You have to stand in line at the bar to order your food so that took awhile, but the food came out pretty quick. I wasn't too impressed with the ramen, and I've had ramen all over the world. The broth was good, I enjoyed the spicy flavor. However, having tomatoes in the ramen was weird and I didn't enjoy that. My biggest complaint is there was very little meat in the ramen, like 2 small chunks of brisket. My wife and I were very excited to come here and try their ramen and it looked like a good place to hang out. Last Friday night, around 9PM, we went and it was not busy yet at all. The bearded redheaded man took our two simple orders, a Shin Ramen (yes, the packaged Shin Ramen) and a Matt's Ramen, and Mr Redhead gave us our buzzer to notify us when our food was ready to be picked up. We were standing in front of the bar for about 10 minutes, Mr Redhead passing by us several times just ignoring us. So we walked around the arcade side for a little, came back in another 5 minutes to see if our food was ready through the kitchen windows - no luck. Mr Redhead passes by us again several times, ignores us again, as he continues to take orders for more customers and more as the night goes on. We go occupy ourselves with chess, checking in every 15-30 minutes mid game....no luck. So we walk right up to the dishwasher lady who looks at our buzzer, looks at the other employees and is shocked that we are waiting for food that NO CHEF has been ever notified because their printers were down and MR. REDHEAD never bothered relaying the message to any chef or employee simply because the printer was down. Super disrespectful as Mr Redhead never apologized for his mistake, or acknowledged us at any point or time, even after he passed by us several times. No manners, no common sense. read more

We really enjoyed our hang here and was pleasantly surprised about the experience with it being our first go of it. The food was the x-factor, leaving us questioning if we could do another ramen bowl or not! The beverages were good as well. The live music wasn't overly loud, which was nice considering most of the time you have to yell to talk in other nearby establishments... The staff was helpful as well with no issues to report. My only quirks to keep me from a 5 are having to walk up to order everything - the lines were quite chaotic, and considering someone had to hold the table to keep it, made it interesting to have everyones stuff hit the table together. The most memorable part of the night was the one man band who apparently comes out weekly! He is very talented and has fun with the audience. I would also come back for his entertainment. The service is the only draw back. The female bartender who is known for the Trucker Hats she wears was extremely rude and offensive. Fun, low-key vibes in this no-frills bar. Great beer and booze selection and a fun combination of a bar with arcade games on one side and a bar with food and tables/seating on the other. We went to the bar (where you go to order all drinks and food) and were greeted fairly quickly. The menu is pretty straight forward and we had come to try out the ramen. My friend and I both opted for the Matt's Ramen, which had smoked pork, pickled carrots, poached egg, scallions, and kimchi, reg, not spicy. Our buzzer went off, letting us know our order was ready, but we had no clue where to go to snag it. I had to go to the other side to ask a random worker and they brought out 1 of 2 ramen bowls and walked away before I could ask about the other. We waited another 15 minutes for the second bowl to come out. It seemed that other nearby tables had the same timing issue. If you're not in a rush and don't mind one person eating while the other sits awkwardly, have at it! ;-) The ramen itself was great. Even the regular was pretty spicy, with both of us having runny noses from the heat. The broth was really complex and tasty, the meat fall-apart tender, and the egg perfectly poached. It was a sizable portion and I couldn't even eat the whole bowl. I probably would have brought the rest home but didn't want to go on the treasure hunt to find staff again. It was hoppin' on a Sunday evening, as was Gay St. in general. Great ramen and beer spot, but don't expect 5-star service when it's busy or a sparkling clean interior. Edit: 2 stars as I read a lot of the reviews and saw that the service has been bad for a while now. It just hasn't been fixed. The food is good and I tipped 20% as I thought the servers may have had a bad day, but upon further review, they just are that way. The food was amazing. Although it was not spicy, it was flavorful. The drinks were also great. One thing I will say is that no one that works there greets you or even acknowledges you're there until you full on ask and even then they kind of dismiss you. The menu situation was confusing as well as when we went there was only drink menus out on the table and no food menus. I will say once they take your order and you sit they are much more attentive. I found this place to be quite neat. It's separated into two sections with the bar and tables on one side and all the games on the other side. I liked that because it allows people to have their meal and then go and play games or vice versa. The selection of beer was quite substantial, and their chocolate stout was outstanding. I ordered a vegetarian ramen and enjoyed quite a bit. The taste was not overwhelming, and the broth was not overly salty. At times, some places try to add too much salt in order to make the broth flavorful, but I didn't find it here. The portions were significant to consider it a light dinner. I didn't give the place a five-star rating because of the overall perception of cleanliness. Especially on the game side, the place appeared to be in need of a good cleaning. My wife, daughter and I enjoyed our early dinner here. We all love good ramen, and the ramen here was excellent. You really can't go wrong, so go with what you like. I will say that the "hot" ramen are really more like a nice medium, so please don't be fearful of the dish blowing your tastebuds out of your mouth. You can always ask for some chili to spice it up more if you want. The beer selection was extensive, and though not a connoisseur of the local beers, after sampling a few options I was able to find the perfect one for me. The Smoky ramen matches the name where this place is at, the Smoky Mountains. I realized it's the brisket that made the Raman stand out. It was just tender juicy Texas style smoked brisket. Just the way I like it and reminds me of my favorite state in the US.....Texas. I had to order a small side order of the brisket just to see how it tasted without anything on it. I want to give High Gravity a higher score, but I can't. The concept is AMAZING, but they fail on the execution. I wish we had something like this back home. I'll start with the food - it's good. There isn't a lot going on, but we both liked what we ordered. She had a burger quesadilla & I had "Matt's Ramen". The only problem was neither of us like spicy food, & the menu definitely leans that direction hard, which is problematic when the menu is so small. My bowl of ramen wasn't too hot, but I would have preferred it not be spicy at all. As for the games, we had a blast! The pictures here on Yelp don't do it Justice. One half of this place was nothing but arcade games: shooters, retro games, pinball, & even stand alone gaming consoles. Here's the rub, quite a few of the older games are not in good repair. They either don't work at all, are broken in some fashion, or will downright eat your quarters - not cool. We probably lost 3-4 bucks on malfunctioning units. I think my biggest gripe lays with the wait-staff, or the lack thereof for that matter. There aren't any waiters or waitresses, so if you want food or drinks you have to fetch them from the bar yourself. This is fine when they aren't busy, but I would assume that set-up turns into a nightmare when they are busy. Also, the bartender was a bit snooty the night we were there, wasn't rude or mean or anything, just wasn't friendly. I was picking up some kind of hipster vibe, like he thought he was better than us or something. I didn't like that, didn't feel welcome. On a lighter note, the cocktails he made for us were pretty damn effective - good stuff. Would have appreciated a cocktail menu. Last but not least -- COVID. There isn't a single COVID protocol being implemented in this place. And I mean none! I would have at least appreciated there being some hand sanitizer being out in the arcade area. read more

Not knowing the area of Downtown Knoxville well we stopped at a local bar (Black horse) for a drink and recommendations for the area. Suttree's was touted as a very cool, local place with vintage pin ball machines and games like Pacman, Galáctica, etc. The place is cool A.F. Yes, a great lively crowd, lots to do other than drink and chat. Hell we played a few rounds of football and my favorite, Pac-Man. But as a straight guy I got ignored by bartenders more than I care to subject myself to. It was so obvious that my Niece, who is Gay, had to comment on the blatant and obvious disrespect, and was the one to recommend we move on. Now I'm about as Alternative friendly as you can get. So I certainly did nothing to warrant this attitude from two of the three bartenders. I would go back if I'm the neighborhood because the ambiance was energetic and fun. I thought about 5 stars, but my Japanese wife said the noodles in the ramen weren't good (she liked the broth...just didn't like the noodles, said they were like those in instant ramen. And asking a Japanese about noodle quality would be like asking a Texan re. chili....we have high standards). I love their beer selection-- but I like dark beers, ales and stouts and after all the words "high gravity" are in their name. Bartenders are knowledgeable, for sure. I also like how you can easily order/get smaller sampling sizes of the beers (not just in flights but one-by-one). I also had a sandwich (brisket, cheese) and it was delicious. I'd go 4.5 stars. If you are looking for a bar with better than average food, this is a great place. We've been 3-4 times overall (sometimes just for a beer) and always found it a good place. read more
