Small Turkey Melt

Another Knoxville staple bites the dust. I haven't been in a year or so, but nothing tastes the same, portions are smaller, and the prices are through the roof. So so so tired of this happening to all our great restaurants.

BISCUIT SCRAMBLED EGG SMOKED CHEDDAR GRAVY w/ BENTON'S BACON
Graham C.

Started our Sunday with brunch at Tomato Head, it had been a while. A good crowd but not enough to create a wait. Our server was good and the everything taste great. I can't get over dropping $20 on biscuit & gravy. Yes, there's a little bacon there and an egg but come on...

Huevos Rancheros

Added a little Benton's Bacon to this dish. This is a great pairing and presentation of a simple dish. The sauce added only a slight heat to the Tex-Mex dish. This wasn't overly filling and made for a great afternoon meal or late brunch. Definitely one of my favorite Huevos Rancheros that I've ordered.

Kimchi soup was good and not spicy at all. Came w bread.

Fresh sandwiches, a bit small but had alfalfa sprouts which was good. Kimchi soup was the special which was suppose to be a spicy cabbage soup. Flavor was good but not spicy at all.

Farm to table fresh food and lots of options for gluten free, dairy free, nut free, vegan and vegetarian. Great pizza and ambiance to enjoy the food. Always nice people here and a southern comfort!

A calzone and chai tea with honey

The calzones are huge and amazing, they seem pricey. But you are definitely getting your moneys worth. Also I love the tea set up when you ask for it. It's very cute.

#9" #13 Pizza (new combination)
Devon B.

I've been several times over the years and it's always amazing service, but the food can sometimes feel overpriced. This past visit though, WOW. $22 for a personal pizza makes me cringe, I can't lie. But the goat cheese, olives, mushrooms, pesto... the whole #13 pizza was a treat. Absolutely worth the (insane) price. They were also very accommodating for my 1.5 year old and our stroller!

Pizza

I was charged $26 for a 9" pizza. Yeah, I did the make your own, but I apparently didn't realize that tomatoes were going to be $3.25 and pesto and walnuts were nearly $3 each. This is outrageous for a 9" pizza, to be honest. The pizza is barely the size of my hand! Lower your prices, Tomatohead!

Just right. The Tangerine Aleppo drink was refreshing with a tiny peppery kick. It was busy for dinner on Friday and it seems people were waiting a bit for their to-go orders but they did a good job of keeping the line inside moving. We were making 3 different bowls and there was a misunderstanding on the main. They added steak to the wrong bowl and remade it for me which is very much appreciated. A good number of tables inside that could work for small or bigger groups. There was also a small patio with outside seating,

Located in an established strip mall by a high-traffic intersection at Kingston Pike and S. Peter's, Greens and Grains is easy to get in and out of with plenty of parking. The interior is spotlessly clean (including the restrooms!) and comprised of two connected dining areas and kitchens. One has a trendy, airy feel with cool green and white tones, while the other is darker with metal and wood elements, a game area, and a large open grill/prep area. The reason for the two different vibes was not immediately clear to me. Actually, it never became more clear during the hour or so I spent there, but I can appreciate a good mystery. This is NOT a fast food joint. In fact, it is slow. Agonizingly slow if you're in a hurry. This is a place to come when you are with a group of people you find highly entertaining (or when you heft along a great book) and don't mind waiting. After ordering two sandwiches and sides, my friend and I waited almost 20 minutes for our food to appear at our table. The macaroni salad was pleasantly flavorful, without the overcooked noodles and runny sauce so often found with this deli counter staple. The turkey and Brie was also good and grilled to buttery-crisp perfection. The sandwich, side, and a drink cost just under $20, so it's neither bargain-priced nor exotic, but fresh ingredients are not cheap. Only one employee was working in each of the two halves of the restaurant, so I imagine if they want to speed up their service, they are going to need to schedule more people. The two employees were both delightfully friendly, though, and they aren't just paying lip service to customer service, a goal plainly outlined on all the napkin dispensers and evidenced by their actions. Despite the slow service, I'm giving them a 5 for their dedication to quality ingredients and excellent customer service. I hope they make it for the long haul, and I'll definitely be back soon.

Plus, the purchase price of their chips goes to charity - it was fun picking our charity of choice. Service was excellent! The staff was enthusiastic and I must add "adorable". I'm returning next week.

Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was pretty disappointing. The service was inattentive from start to finish. Our drinks sat empty for long stretches, the bread was hard, and my steak wasn't cooked anywhere close to how I ordered it. What surprised me most was that our server never once came back to ask how the food was or if everything was okay, so there wasn't really an opportunity to have anything corrected. It also felt like a missed opportunity that no one even asked whether we were celebrating anything. We were there for my brother's college graduation, and while I wasn't expecting free desserts or a big production, most restaurants at this price point at least ask the question. It would've been a nice touch and made the experience feel a little more personal. For a bill that came to around $250, I expected a much higher level of service and food quality. I don't mind paying for a great meal and experience, but this just didn't deliver enough to justify the price. It was my first visit - my family's third time. We drove over an hour to get there.

Both were solid as well. Fries were crispy, but a bit over-salted, and I enjoy some salt. So made a note for next time to "go light". Service was good too. Overall - really only a tiny detail to 'complain' about, but easily taken care of next time. We will be back for sure - I want to try their pizza!
