Very good Indian cuisine but even the requested "non-spicy" is Very spicy and did cause diarrhea that burned equally as much upon exit as it did while eating! But other people enjoyed it for days with no issues. There needs to be plain white rice (thats not yellow from presumably saffron aka heavy metals) and we needed extra plain paneer cheese & plain yogurt (no carrots) is needed with All sauce on the side. We met the two chef-brothers and their recipe-creating father at their new restaurant. We were so happy with their food that it took restraint not to hug them. I'm not kidding. Within the first few bites of food, we knew - they're gonna need a bigger place. Sure enough, we got there about 5:30 p.m. and by 6 they were packed, inside and outside. Even in the nearby college town of Burlington, Vermont, most of their restaurants close at 9, even on Saturday nights (Why???). Before finding Namaste Garden, we spent 2 days eating bland, poorly cooked restaurant food until we resorted to eating better food from a local supermarket. And then we found this restaurant - we ate so many dishes and took nearly the same order to go. We had Shahi Thali, a combination of great dishes, rice, bread, etc. We don't eat meat or dairy and the chefs accommodated us. Their saag was the best I've ever had. Their Dal Makani, Dal Tarka, Rajma curry and Chana curry were just the best. (Sorry Broward county chefs, these guys really are better - I'm watching out for lightning right now.) We lived off of their food for the next few days - morning and night - and regretfully tossed the remaining few leftovers. It was delicious. If I lived nearby, I'd eat there every day. The chefs were so humble for their talent and their father was proud of the results of his recipes. This family knows flavor and how to best represent the food of their ancestors. They also respect their guests and happily make vegan, vegetarian and mildly spiced dishes. We miss them. I mean it. Of all the people, places and experiences we had, we miss this family and their wonderful food. I've considered asking them to ship an order to me, but I don't believe they're set up to do that yet. They're still grappling with the fact that, after a few months, their new place is already not big enough. read more

This is the best Indian food I've ever eaten. I especially love that. It is entirely vegan. You can bring non-vegans here and they will not even register that they're not having meat. It is that good. I also love the staff and owner; he is extremely sweet and he will tell you all about the dishes. There are actually an incredible number of dishes. The place is tiny but if you can get a table, it's nice. They do great takeout especially their lunch specials. read more

Many items on the menu are vegan or can be made vegan, and multiple gluten free options. Service is great and the establishment is clean and welcoming. Everything was tasty with a good amount of spice - they prepare heat on an "Indian" scale so if you order spicy hot, be prepared to drink a lot of mango lassi! My wife and I were in Essex looking to visit our friends at Nagueños Filipino diner. They were unfortunately closed, so we decided to try Namaste Garnden next door and man, we were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly by one of the brothers that run the place, he was very nice and helpful with showing us the menu. Very humble and grateful to have us in his restaurant. The menu is very large and has a lot of yummy things to choose from, some I am familiar with, some I am not. The gentleman helping us was very helpful. We had the samosa chat, the paneer masala mughlai, another dish with yellow curry and house made dumplings as well as garlic naan. Everything was very delicious and bursting with good Indian flavors and spices. Food was fresh and well prepared. We will definitely eat here again when we get the chance. Highly recommend! I felt like I'd died & gone to heaven, as I dug into the bhindi masala. This dish consists of okra and still-crunchy onions - and flavortown! So different than the mushy dishes commonly on offer at Indian restaurants. The 100% vegetarian menu seems to go on for miles. You will have a very hard time deciding. We got some papadam to start, which is available as-is or topped with a tasty garnish of crunchy vegetables, crumbled cheese, and tamarind sauce. We got aloo paratha which was fabulous, oily, with the distinct taste of potatoes. My husband got a curry which he ordered "hot". The waitress apologetically asked if he wanted "American hot" or "Indian hot" and he wisely chose American. It was just right for him, too hot for me. I got my dish mild, and they did not disappoint. Getting the heat level right is very important at places like this. The dining room is drafty, with no vestibule and a door that won't always close too easily. This is not unimportant in Vermont in January. Yet we didn't even mind, we were so full of hot tasty food. The service was above & beyond friendly. read more

We stopped here enroute to Montreal and greatly enjoyed our dinners. The soups, tomato and hot-and-sour were hot, hearty, and tasty. I will warn readers that their food is definitely spicy. I'm normally a "hot" guy at Indian restaurants, got the "medium" here, and my mouth was on fire. Good fire, but fire. After the soups we had Gohbi Manchurian, which is cauliflower and my buddy ordered the Matar Mushroom. Both were definitely spicy but had a lot of flavor. We got an order of naan to help with the heat and that also made a difference. Namaste Gardens is fairly small, I think I counted 7 tables, but we were seated without issue. I also found the wait staff excellent. Very friendly and had good suggestions for us. If you like spicy foods and are in the Burlington area, try this place out. read more
