    Chashu Pork Belly Banh Mi
    Naomi T.

I came across NaMi at the Lansdowne food truck festival. I tried the Chashu Pork Belly banh mi and the portion of meat was good but I think the pork belly could've been marinated more. It wasn't as flavourful as I was expecting. Or it could've used more sauce. Maybe the chicken one would've been better? The bread and pickled veggies were good. Prices are a bit higher as well since they are a food truck but could be worth another try.

AMAZING HIDDEN FOOD TRUCK ALERT. Tucked away in the industrial setting is this amazing food truck (which is so close to my work I'm both shook that I didn't know sooner and happy knowing I have another lunch option). * Salad roll shrimp ($6) - amazing, super fresh and nicely flavoured even the shrimp is flavoured. The sauce is thick and super rich in peanut! Amazing sauce mixture (best I've had in a while). You can choose between shrimp or tofu. * Chasiu banh mi ($11) ~ melts in your mouth. A nice Smokey taste to it! The pickled veggie are so fresh and so good. The bun was nice and warm and was super crunchy and good with the perfectly cooked chasiu the layer of fat was perfect! * Garlic beef vermicelli ($13) ~ this was not bad but not the best here. The beef was juicy, nice variety of bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots, pickled radish, and lettuce. It comes with a herb dressing which adds a nice taste to the vermicelli. It's not over powering. The beef is a bit on the dry side so I'd recommend eating it fresh (we had to drive back to work). * Vietnamese coffee ($5) ~ BEST VIETNAMESE COFFEE IVE HAD. I love Vietnamese coffee and this was super strong and rich. If you are a fan of strong Vietnamese coffee then this is for you! Perfect mixture of coffee and condensed milk. * 8/10 ~ the banh mi and the Vietnamese iced coffee is no joke outstanding! It was so delicious I absolutely loved it! I do wish the beef vermicelli bowl was a bit more moist and tender.

    Meatball Bahn Mi

I was super excited to try this place out during their $5 Bahn Mi promo but unfortunately, I don't think i'm going to return if i'm paying full price. I tried their lemongrass chicken and meatball Bahn Mi and although not bad, it is also not the best. I went there a few times during the promo and the best one I had from this truck was from my first time when a younger lady was making it (never saw her again). She put enough filling, pate, and sauce on it so it was pretty good. However, the other times I went were mediocre because I feel like it was lacking quality control as there was barely any sauce and pate so my sandwich was quite dry. Also I want to note that the bread they use is not good (very chewy) and they don't toast it so it's pretty much like cutting your lips from the crumbs..and the bread is half of what makes a good Bahn Mi.... Onto their spring rolls- I'm not a big fan of them because they have this really strong egg smell to them (I think it might be the wrapper they used) and I've had many Vietnamese Spring Rolls in my life so I know they typically would not smell like that. These are the same spring rolls served at "Pho Thai Hoa" (I instantly knew based on the taste). Just like at the restaurant, these ones taste and feel undercooked and not what I would expect from a Vietnamese owned business. 0/10 do not recommend the spring rolls lawl. Also, it was my first time seeing Vietnamese Spring Rolls served with Thai sweet chilli sauce instead of fish sauce. All in all, I can't say I am willing to pay full price ($9) for it and many of my friends also agree. I know they also sell halves for $6 but who would really get full off of a half Bahn Mi? There is another Bahn Mi restaurant down the street (Viet Sub) that sells them for $5 for a full one and they're pretty good sooo... The vibe of the truck is very "modern" and they blast rap music so I guess it makes this truck fusion? lol.

Good Bahn Mi and it seems like a fun work environment. The new items, Chasu Pork and Susu fried chicken are my current favourites.

They also have a bar area. Kind of an Asian French fusion menu. Food dishes were good and creative, but it didn't really appeal to me. I appreciated the good service and chill atmosphere, but not sure if I would come back. I would say that their house made spicy was really good. A mix of sweet, sour, and spicy. Had a brightness to it yet also very, very spicy. Tastes great on many of the dishes, especially if you wanted a nice "kick" to the food. I believe you can order a jar to take home if you wish.

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

Went in for lunch with my granddaughter, both of us fans of Vietnamese food. Ordered Green Papaya Salad ($12), Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli with one spring roll ($17), one lime soda ($6.50) and one pop ($3). Food arrived within minutes of ordering. Portions were very generous. The salad was perfect with everything very fresh, as it should be but often isn't in some places. Plump prawns and the scent and taste of basil was prominent. Delicious! The lemongrass chicken (we ordered extra chicken) with a spring roll was also very generous. We did not finish it between the two of us. Again, all was fresh, tasty and hot. This is one of our standard orders and Pho Goodness did not disappoint. Granddaughter declared it better than at our regular favourite, and Pho Goodness is around the corner from her home and not a bus ride out to Kingsway! Service was friendly and responsive. We asked that the volume be turned off on the massive TV over our heads (which nobody was watching) (it was), requested a glass for the pop and immediately received a tumbler full of ice. Lovely. We have found a new favourite on Davie Street, a true foodie heaven with a collection of independent restaurants of many ethnicities available. We will return to Pho Goodness when the urge for Vietnamese food strikes again.

The Garden Rolls were absolutely the #1 worst ones we've ever eaten! We've had hundreds of fresh rolls at dozens of places and sadly, none were as tasteless as these. They consisted of noodles, a bit of flavorless tofu and cucumber. Fresh rolls MUST have at least one or more of the following: fresh mint, fresh cilantro or fresh Thai Basil. Hestia's had NONE!. To add insult to injury, the watery sauce also had NO flavor. To add more insult, they were baggy and poorly wrapped and the innards kept falling out. Not fun and definitely not good. The king oyster mushrooms were very good, but there was a ton of pink mayo dousing it. I would have preferred the sauce be in a separate bowl so we could choose how much dipping we'd like to do. The saffron tofu bowl was sensational! Perfectly spiced and full of a huge variety of well-cooked veggies plus the saffron rice was good too. No one came during our meal to ask if we needed anything or to ask how our meal was. The customer service is in need of some work.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner one evening and each ordered the aforementioned noodle soup--she got a small ($11.75 plus tax) and I got a regular ($12.75 plus tax). We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant. The veggies were overcooked, but plentiful and nicely chosen. Decent place for veggie pho.
