The food truck was parked outside Emily Carr at 577 Great Northern Way when I visited. They have banh mis for $13.50 each and vermicelli bowls for $17.50. You pick one of the two and a choice of protein. I got the lemongrass tofu, which is vegan. The bowl comes with plenty of vermicelli, a huge amount of reasonably well-marinated, deep fried tofu, carrot, daikon, cucumber, and cabbage, with a sweet soy sauce. The bowl was ready in about 10 minutes. You get a fairly big portion of tofu and lots of volume of the veggies (all raw), along with the noodles. The price is pretty high for a food truck meal, but the portion is at least solid. Not the most interesting sauce or ingredients, but done well enough. Decent. read more

My order: Garlic Beef Vermicelli Bowl ($12): I really liked the unique heavily basil-infused sauce (on the side) for the vermicelli. They do not offer rice bowls here, only vermicelli bowls. The meat was well marinated, and I liked their pickled veggies too. 2 Spring Rolls ($6): pretty good size, and you get 2 (in the picture, I show only 1 of the 2 rolls. 1 roll is cut into halves) Lemongrass Chicken Bánh Mì ($10): Meat portion was okay, and the chicken was also well marinated. I came across NaMi at the Lansdowne food truck festival. I tried the Chashu Pork Belly banh mi and the portion of meat was good but I think the pork belly could've been marinated more. It wasn't as flavourful as I was expecting. Or it could've used more sauce. Maybe the chicken one would've been better? The bread and pickled veggies were good. Prices are a bit higher as well since they are a food truck but could be worth another try. read more

On a rare hot April afternoon, I was looking for lunch. They were at the Crestwood Business Plaza on a Wednesday, so I decided to try it out. I got a Susu Fried Chicken vermicelli bowl. They were out of bean sprouts but offered to substitute with banana blossom. Also, they were out of the chili lime dressing so they gave me the herb dressing instead. For $13, the portion was good. I particularly enjoyed the dressing, as it was fragrant with herbs, and well balanced with fish sauce, soy sauce and lime juice. The pickled veggies also added some crunch to the bowl, and the chicken was perfectly marinated and cooked. I want to have the option to add more chicken though. Overall, a good experience and would order from them again. The banana blossom salad also looks to be a good item for the coming summer months. read more

Was super excited when I saw lineups at this food truck. It looked really promising. Finally I got to try it out today and I'd say I was disappointed. Seems all the lineups were cuz they had all the subs for $5 for a week. Tried half Lemongrass chicken Bahn Mi and the pork spring rolls. I'm glad I ordered half sandwich cuz I hate to waste food and I would have chucked it away. The bread to meat ratio is way off plus I could hardly taste the lemongrass. AMAZING HIDDEN FOOD TRUCK ALERT. Tucked away in the industrial setting is this amazing food truck (which is so close to my work I'm both shook that I didn't know sooner and happy knowing I have another lunch option). *　 Salad roll shrimp ($6) - amazing, super fresh and nicely flavoured even the shrimp is flavoured. The sauce is thick and super rich in peanut! Amazing sauce mixture (best I've had in a while). You can choose between shrimp or tofu. * Chasiu banh mi ($11) ~ melts in your mouth. A nice Smokey taste to it! The pickled veggie are so fresh and so good. The bun was nice and warm and was super crunchy and good with the perfectly cooked chasiu the layer of fat was perfect! * Garlic beef vermicelli ($13) ~ this was not bad but not the best here. The beef was juicy, nice variety of bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots, pickled radish, and lettuce. It comes with a herb dressing which adds a nice taste to the vermicelli. It's not over powering. The beef is a bit on the dry side so I'd recommend eating it fresh (we had to drive back to work). * Vietnamese coffee ($5) ~ BEST VIETNAMESE COFFEE IVE HAD. I love Vietnamese coffee and this was super strong and rich. If you are a fan of strong Vietnamese coffee then this is for you! A convenient place to pick up a banh mi or a Vietnamese salad/vermicelli bowl. The food truck is located in the heart of Vancouver downtown and the food is ready really quickly. I had ordered a few times through the rituals app and the food has always been ready as soon as I arrive. I had tried the salad roll, spring roll and blossom bowl before and was pretty happy with each. The spring rolls are much smaller than I expected but they have a good crunchy texture. Each order or spring have and salad roll comes with 2 rolls cut in halves. The bowls are a pretty generous portion that fills up to the top of the bowl. The price is a bit higher than your usual Vietnamese restaurant considering it is a food truck, but it is understandable considering it is a startup food truck in the downtown area. Worth a try for a quick bite. read more

I was super excited to try this place out during their $5 Bahn Mi promo but unfortunately, I don't think i'm going to return if i'm paying full price. I tried their lemongrass chicken and meatball Bahn Mi and although not bad, it is also not the best. I went there a few times during the promo and the best one I had from this truck was from my first time when a younger lady was making it (never saw her again). She put enough filling, pate, and sauce on it so it was pretty good. However, the other times I went were mediocre because I feel like it was lacking quality control as there was barely any sauce and pate so my sandwich was quite dry. Also I want to note that the bread they use is not good (very chewy) and they don't toast it so it's pretty much like cutting your lips from the crumbs..and the bread is half of what makes a good Bahn Mi.... Onto their spring rolls- I'm not a big fan of them because they have this really strong egg smell to them (I think it might be the wrapper they used) and I've had many Vietnamese Spring Rolls in my life so I know they typically would not smell like that. These are the same spring rolls served at "Pho Thai Hoa" (I instantly knew based on the taste). Just like at the restaurant, these ones taste and feel undercooked and not what I would expect from a Vietnamese owned business. 0/10 do not recommend the spring rolls lawl. Also, it was my first time seeing Vietnamese Spring Rolls served with Thai sweet chilli sauce instead of fish sauce. All in all, I can't say I am willing to pay full price ($9) for it and many of my friends also agree. I know they also sell halves for $6 but who would really get full off of a half Bahn Mi? There is another Bahn Mi restaurant down the street (Viet Sub) that sells them for $5 for a full one and they're pretty good sooo... The vibe of the truck is very "modern" and they blast rap music so I guess it makes this truck fusion? lol. read more

NaMi kicked off it's opening with a big Instagram presence, which has since quiet down. They were doing some big promos during their opening week - free subs on day 1 and $5 full size subs the rest of the week. The lines were massive from what I saw on Instagram. However, I am usually a little reluctant to line up for new spots, so I skipped out on opening week. I find that often times during these sorts of promos, the staff become overwhelmed and quality of the food starts slipping. I eventually ventured to their cute blue truck to try the traditional sub, with three different types of vietnamese cold cuts, and a shrimp salad roll. The traditional sub was definitely the star. I got the full size for $9. The sub came in a massive baguette that was crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Biting into the sub, you will find a nice ratios between baguette, cold cuts, and pickled veggies. The cherry on top was the generous layer of creamy pate on the bread. I asked them to go easy on the aioli (mayo), which they respected, allowing me to enjoy a Vietnamese sub exactly how I liked it. Overall, I really enjoyed the sub. Personally, the full size, was a little too much for me. The half size probably would have been enough to satsify my stomach. As a few mentioned already, a full size sub at NaMi is almost double the price of your average Vietnamese sub. I don't really have a problem with this price difference, as the reality is this spot is in the Downtown core and most spots that live up to NaMi flavour-wise are on the other side of town. A standard pre-made sandwich from a cafe or grocery store in Downtown sells at the same price point anyways. I have tried a handful of Vietnamese subs around Downtown and so far, NaMi's sub is the only one in the area that can satisfy my itch for a good Vietnamese sub, flavour-wise. The shrimp salad roll was a little underwhelming. To my dismay, it was pre-made. They pull them out of the fridge in plastic wrap and then unwrapped and cut it in half, before transferring it into a compostable togo box. Fill was pretty basic - romaine lettuce, vermicelli, and 4 shrimp. The peanut sauce was pretty good though. I appreciate the efforts NaMi put into branding - the colour scheme, graphic design, and using packaging that reflects the branding. I hope they are able to maintain their strong sense of branding over time. Furthermore, the staff seem to live up to the branding too - energetic, hip, and very inviting. Food truck at Riley Park this past Saturday overwhelmed- only one employee. Ban mi lacked cilantro, thrown together in sad seconds. Not up to their usual standards. Have enjoyed lovely sandwiches at Hastings park last winter. These were dry, lacking taste, generally a sad Imposter. Please, try to do better in the future. read more

Good was good, would be happy to get for there again. They are definitely more expensive than some of the banh mi places in East Van, but if you have a hankering and are nearby they won't let you down flavor-wise. read more

hate to say this but the worst banh mi I've ever had. So disappointing. Lemongrass chicken was so bland, same for the beef. Couldn't even taste the lemongrass. Barely any pate/sauce so the sandwich was dry. Bread was stale. Definitely not worth the price, will avoid in the future. read more

Food Truck Fail! I'm a big Bahn mi fan and food truck fan. Decided to try it today. My first observations, three stoned highschool kids operating a food truck. This isn't going to go well. They ask for your name. It was only me ordering no one infront of me waiting, no one behind. 5 minutes later some guy comes to order. After he finishes paying they hand him a sandwich. I assumed they have some online ordering system. Another five minutes pass and they call out a random name and a sandwich I did not order. There is no one else around, they've only had 2 people come by on the past 10 minutes (me and the other guy). They clearly gave my sandwich to the other guy. They have no other orders to fill (I can see their ticket receipts). I could see them getting confused if business was booming and they had 5 or 6 people waiting for sandwiches, but it's only me! I try and explain it to them, and all they say is, "all I know is I have a fried chicken sandwich for Bob and that's all I have". After some random confused looks, they offer to make me a sandwich. I just took the one they already had made (which is not what I ordered) because I can't wait another 5 minutes. Sandwich is mediocre and costs $9.45 for a Bahn mi! Complete fail operationally, staffing wise, pricing wise, and food quality wise. I'd recommend saving your time and money and go to Viet Sub or Joyeux Cafe which are only 5 mins away from this truck. Both have better sandwiches at a fraction of the price. read more
