Butter Chicken Schnitzel Curry. My Gawd! I'm dying! Died and gone to Indian heaven. This was probably the best Indian dish I've ever had - and it came from a food truck at the Shipyards Market in North Van. So much food here to choose from and I'm glad I chose Vij's. Now, on to the Varinicey Pakora trailer!

Vij's Railway Express is a food truck in Vancouver that specializes in Indian fusion food. They are Indian cuisine with modern and German twist with items like the naan wrap chicken schnitzel with butter chicken sauce. They also have a selection of Indian sodas like Limca, Thums Up Cola, and Fanta Orange. WHAT WE TRIED: Butter Chicken Schnitzel | $12.5 Crispy Cauliflower Bites | $6 Limca | $2.5 Follow them on twitter at @VijsRailway to find out their location and hours. Just look for the blue truck with yellow sign! It should be pretty easy to spot as they tend to have a giant line too. Above is some photos of the truck to help you spot it. We got to try them by Robson Square for the Food Truck festival. Crispy cauliflower bites are crispy and tasty nuggets served in a paper cone. It comes with two dippings sauces. The way it's serve works perfectly for street food. Butter chicken schnitzel served with basmati rice and naan. Now this is served like a rice bowl. In the past, when I ordered this dish they took the naan and wrapped the deep fried chicken, butter chicken sauce and veggies like a burrito. I actually preferred eating it that way as it was easier to eat on the go. The sauce is packed with flavour and the deep fried batter add a nice texture to every bite. I quite enjoyed it! I also decided to pick up an Indian soda, Limca. It's kind of like a 7up/Sprite but a bit more lime-y and refreshing. I asked my indian friend about it and he mentioned it use to be Indian lemonade till Coca-Cola bought them. I felt this tasted pretty similiar to Sprite but in a different bottle. OVERALL IMPRESSION OF VIJ'S RAILWAY EXPRESS: Vij's Railway Express is food truck doing exciting things moving Indian cuisine forward. Some may call the food not traditional, but I'm glad to see he is pushing the cuisine further while still keeping it simple enough to eat as street food. Everything tastes great, but portions are a bit small. We would still recommend to try as you'll be able to enjoy new and creative ways of prepare traditional Indian cuisine. If there is anything you love at Vij's Railway Express and think we should try it next time, feel free to contact us! The Good: - Tasty items that aren't available at other Indian restaurants and food trucks. The Bad: - Portions are a bit small

OMG so good !!!!! A big 5 for this small truck ;-) The waiting line was super long, even when my friend and I came early. We were wondering what the fuss was about. Now we know !!!! The food is delicious, the best service so far in a food truck and the price are decent. My girlfriend and I took the Bison curry, ginger and coconut green beans and the best Cassava fried that I ever ate so far. The dishes have the right amount of spices and they are all full of flavours. And one more thing, which for me make it a Big 5, environment friendly cutlery and boxes for the food Bravo !!

I would say a 3.5 but rounding down. Food - the menu was interesting and had variety. I had the seared cod in mango curry. It was quite good even as curry was too little (I had half my rice left when the curry got over). It came with rice and a 1/8 of a naan. The rice was slightly undercooked and the naan portion was simply too small. Prices - I paid $12 which is reasonable given that they served quality cod. They also had beef and chicken entrees for the same price. But given other food trucks in the area, that serve great food for half that (or slightly more), I feel Vij's needs to do more to compete. Overall, the food did not live up to Vij's name even as they charge brand-name prices. Plus there is plenty good food around, so I will not be waiting in the queue (which actually wasn't there).

Ever since I started working in downtown, I've started to discover these food trucks. The most recent one that I've visited was Vij's Railway Express. I had high hopes for this place since I visited the official restaurant and the food truck did not disappoint! It definitely lived up to the Vijs restaurant (See review here: Vij's ) The food truck isn't always located at the same place so I would strongly recommend visiting their twitter before you step out to give them a try. When I got there at 12:30... you know its prime time lunch hours and the line up was long! I think I probably waited around 20 minutes in total for paying and picking up (which is quite some time considering 1 hr lunches and walking back to the office). Their menu is quite advanced, using LED screens to show their menu unlike the other food trucks with a billboard style menu. When we got our order, the owner ( I think ) would say your name and talk to you as well which gave a nice personable feeling to the food truck, removing the "grab your food and go" atmosphere. The boyfriend (who also worked near me) and I decided to get their Ginger Lemon Drink and it was quite refreshing for a hot summer afternoon in Vancouver. It was good since the lemon flavor was still there and there is just a hint of ginger flavor in there. I think you can also find a similar drink at their other location: Rangoli (right beside Vij's). Ever since he's had the drink, he's been mentioning it and wanting it again... so its a good sign that its good . Next up, he ordered the Lamb Kebab and I ordered the Coconut Beef with Rice. For myself, I had the coconut beef with rice and naan. It was very good, and comparable to Vij's restaurant except more convenient and on the go now! The good about this was the coconut beef, it was very flavorful with a lot of Indian Spices in there If you like intensely flavored food then this is it! The only down side I would say is that the rice or the sauce would start to get watery overtime and starts to seep through the container a little bit. On a side note, the containers and the cutlery they used were all biodegradable and nothing was plastic! (except for the cup and the straw of course ) Price! I would say that for a lunch at a food truck, it is slightly pricey since the two of us came to $25. I wouldn't say I could afford this everyday for lunch but once in a while its a nice treat and its definitely worth the price for the quality of food you get

Coconut beef with rice and naan. $9.

Deeeelicious!! They parked on Saturday up on 4th at Yew. I saw them on my way home from yoga so used walking the dog as an excuse to head back up the hill with the hubby to grab some lunch. He wanted a lamb dish but sadly they were sold out. We both had the coconut beef for $9. We walked back home to eat on our patio which is nice as I'm not really a fan of standing to eat unless it's a hot dog or pizza slice. You get a lot of food for $9 including perfectly cooked rice and a piece of naan. Having worked out and being good at justifying my actions I scarfed it all down guilt-free. The hubby saved some of his for a snack later on. The selection was a bit limited but I'd like to try more of their dishes another time.

12.50$ for a tiny portion of curry paired with half a piece of naan bread and rice. The food barely covered the bottom of the box.

* The Definition of Torpedo *…read more Urban Dictionary has multiple definitions or "Torpedo": - To betray, backstab, diss, or punk someone with the intent of causing harm to their reputation. - When objects or people look beautiful from far away, but dangerous or ugly up close. - A long turd. The menu sounded promising (although overpriced for a food truck) with some nice classic sandwiches on offer. I ordered the "mumia" ($12) - which I have to assume is a play on Mumia Abu-Jamal who is from Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak? Anyhoo... The description was very cheesesteak like with sirloin beef, pepperjack cheese, sauteed onions and peppers. The addition of garlic aioli moved away from the classic as did the usage of pepperjack instead of provolone. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I was torpedoed with an excessive amount of a watery oily substance dripping all over the place. It got all over everything - not in a good way. Biting into the sandwich was the next torpedoing. The bread was stale. I don't mean day old. I mean stale. Next torpedo: the beef was chewy, gristly, and very oily. The peppers were the best part - but they too were overly oily. Basically each bite gave you a mouthful of stale bread, a piece of oily gristle flavoured by an oily pepper and a drippy oily substance (perhaps a broken aioli?). I couldn't eat the bread. Tried picking off the meat and veggies to eat, but gave up as they were too awful on their own. Photos: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/tasty-torpedo-vancouver?select=aorGigi_39ldUheXPUynsQ#aorGigi_39ldUheXPUynsQ and http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/tasty-torpedo-vancouver?select=i8BEF8GCeNEZMql6nK1uYA#i8BEF8GCeNEZMql6nK1uYA So I'm left concluding that I was served an overpriced torpedo. In other words, I feel torpedoed that this food truck is a torpedo that serves torpedos!

There was a small line when I approached the truck initially but their service was quick giving customers their sandwich within about 2-4 minutes of order, not entirely sure what the standard is for food trucks but for me that's good. The lady up front taking the orders was very friendly and was happy to help answer our questions. They only offered a few options but what I had to try was the jerk chicken sandwich as I had stopped a girl just minutes before and attempted to waft hers. Again service was fairly quick and I receive my sandwich within a few minutes. I don't think the picture I've posted will do it any justice but this baby was a beauty. The bun tasted quite fresh and almost melted in my mouth, the chicken and enough spice and flavour and the rest was just bomb. It is quite filling I found which is what you're looking for, good bang for buck. Definitely gonna track these down every time I'm downtown. Amazing experience for my taste buds.

The burger was great but the flavor of the beef was definitely a bit lacking. The chicken sandwich was my least favorite of the items I ordered, as the cutlet was rather small (I had the highest expectations, so maybe that contributed as well). The fries were amazing though -- I've gone since my first visit to get just the fries before. The sauce is lacking in the bottom but you can always re-up at the cart! The service is immaculate. I always get the regular hamburger as its a no frills burger that does the trick. It satisfies my burger cravings perfectly. The bun is toasted with butter on the grill. The patty isn't thick but they grill it so that there's a nice crust on it and it adds that extra chew and flavour. They give you a generous amount of ice burger lettuce which makes it refreshing and I'm a suckered for any burger with ketchup on it. This was the first time I got fries and they didn't disappoint. They weren't as crispy as I would have liked. But I loved the sauce and the addition of the Bonito flakes.
