No wonder this is also the favorite restaurant of our dear President. Says a lot about his taste in food! While I usually frequent their Pasay Road branch (where President Aquino usually dines), I find this branch a lot bigger and perhaps a lot cleaner. The food is practically the same so I find myself eating more frequently here. However, I was quite shocked to find out about the jacked up prices of my favorite eel set meal. While I do understand how difficult and expensive it must be to get a hold of and cook eel, one bite of this dish and the price is always worth it. There is perhaps no other restaurant that offers eels as yummy as this. Thanks to President Aquino for the reco!

The first time I read about natto, I was equal parts intrigued and disgusted by it. Given that, the one thing I was totally sure of was I had to try it. Until I came across Nihonbashitei, this bummed me out because I couldn't find a place in the metro that served it. If you're an adventurous eater looking for new Japanese dishes to try, you're going to love this place. Even if you aren't that fond of much outside the staples like sushi, yakitori, and katsu, you're still going to enjoy yourself because everything on the menu is a treat. Cheers!

I enjoyed watching AKB48's Fortune Cookie music video on HD TV. Please, keep playing stuff like that! Good vibes! Seats: They have several of them plus more private ones towards the back left. Two highchairs for kids are placed readily near the entrance and Japanese reading materials, and four bar seats can be found towards the back, closer to the staff. Food: Aburi Chashu Roll was so good I highly recommend it! Kewpie mayo and cream cheese easily made this good plus the flavorful chashu! Beef Curry and Katsu Curry had delicious curry flavor, having only one available level of spiciness yet the mildness was perfect! The sauce had some nice onions and carrots, making the sauce "busier" than boring. Chashu Don was worth it for the generous slices of meat plus flavor. I'm used to having chashu with ramen but this did very well with my taste buds! Niku Yasai Itame was very delicious and healthy-looking. Takoyaki was very fun to cook! Our friendly server checked on us every now and then to guide us. They might not be able to give as much assistance when they're full. We cooked the food until they were golden brown and the filling was extremely hot! The filling was sticky like Monjayaki! Service: I like that they serve free cold tea and offer discounts to LINE users, though I'm not a user of this app. Instructions to claim are found on the table topper, if that's what it's called. Staffers looked like they wanted to dance along with Momoland's Boom Boom music video. (Yes, HD TV again!) Happy vibes! Expect service charge. I find it worth it though. (June 2018)

The first time we went here was around 8:00pm. It took us an hour waiting time and there are no more scallops. We decided to move to Izakaya Kikufuji and we waited further as we are 15th on the list. I can say that this country have an affinity for authentic Japanese food. Driving to QC to Makati is a pain unless it is a holiday. Visited again on a no-work monday and we arrived shortly before 5:00pm, just in time to be called first in line. FINALLY. It was just the opening hour but tables are full. Service is prompt in the beginning. We are immediately provided with a grill set and salad. They serve as you order. Prawn, oyster, and wagyu are prime choices but a variety of options is available at the meat counter. It took us a while to cook but the seafood is fresh and tender. Service gets dry as we start to grill. We asked for an additional meat and waited for 10minutes for it to be served. Good thing they do not count minute by minute and it actually took us an hour to finish everything. Food is great and the only boo is the filthy CR. Unlimited yakiniku runs from Sunday to Thursday from 6pm to 12am. Parking is also available at Makati Cinema Square across Little Tokyo.

It isn't usually where you'd expect to find a traditional Japanese restaurant which makes you question the quality of the food they offer. One night, I decided to give them a shot and I was so not disappointed. Yutaka Izakaya actually has a very intimate setup. The chef hails from Japan and he has brought with him the simple and authentic flavor of our usual favorites like the different kinds of sushis and makis. Their tempura is also topnotch, bathed with the right amount of batter, making it light and delightfully crunchy. I would recommend their sukiyaki don which is pretty much a bowl of your fave hearty sukiyaki poured over rice and topped off with a raw egg. If you're in the mood for some Japanese food in the Q.C.-San Juan area, this place is a definite must-try!

How crazy is that? I also like their Tempura with rice. For three pieces and a bowl of rice, it was only Php 186! Lastly, I tried another sushi dish which was basically rice topped with lots of salmon sashimi bits. This was good and cheaper than an entire serving of salmon sashimi (which was too much for one person anyway) so I opted for it instead. The restaurant is very simple, a hole in the wall type. But they do have good and affordable food. The choices aren't that crazy or out of this world, but are rather simple, yummy, Japanese food. There's a lot of parking space outside but it can get pretty dark at night because of the lack of proper lighting so be vigilant when getting in and out of your car.

It's pricier, but you might even prefer it to Kikufuji. I know I do. Firstly, its menu has more interesting selections, like a wider range of tempura dishes, authentic japanese vegetable...y stuff, and a whole lot of items with interesting looking photos paired with purely japanese names that leave you no hints, which thus pique your interest and make you ask your waiter "what's in this?" Secondly, you won't come out smelly like you do at Kikufuji, and it's much more homey and comfortable at Nodasho. When we ate there, there were absolutely NO Filipinos around us, just Japanese men, and that coupled with the TV airing a Japanese news channel made us feel like we've actually teleported to Tokyo. Try their leek salad. I think it goes really well with a lot of their main dishes. We ate ours with geso tempura. The sushi is chunky and really fresh. I had what was possibly the best salmon sashimi I've ever eaten in this country. I know I mentioned Nodasho as an alternative to Izakaya Kikufuji, but know that I kind of only said that to get your attention. Nodasho is actually first on my list now.

I like sitting outside when its comfortable and Nodasho offers some cozy tables for a date or group of family or friends. I would say it would be a place more for dinner with friends but of course, anything goes. The cozy environment provides a lovely setting for a truly authentic Japanese meal. I always enjoy ordering the Chawan Mushi, Piri-Piri fresh rolls with sesame dip, any fresh sashimi, the Wagyu Tataki, Shake Onigiri, and a nice bottle of Sake. Make sure to always call for a reservation if you're planning to sit outside. Groups and dates always like to sit outside and the restaurant is usually full especially on weekends.
