This past weekend I was trying on the dress I got for my best friend's welcome party for her destination wedding. The zipper got stuck, then it broke, and my panic for having a new dress for this occasion in under a week set in. I used Yelp assistant to put in a request to local alterations spots and let them know I had a broken zipper off the track of a formal dress and I needed it fixed before Tuesday. This request was sent on a Saturday afternoon, so to be honest I was not very hopeful of any replies but Carolina replied right away. Her studio is right by my apartment so she told me to take my dress in right then to see if it could be fixed. She fixed the zipper on the spot, and when we actually tried on the dress we realized that I did not fit. Welcome to my nightmare. She had the brilliant idea to alter the dress and add fabric on the sides to give me the inches I needed. The result is essentially a custom dress that I am obsessed with, and at a great price. I am definitely going to keep Carolina on speed dial for any of my alterations needs as she is super sweet, detail oriented, and very well priced. Her studio is located in a blue building on Mediera and there is street parking right in front. Thank goodness for both request a quote and Carolina for saving my dress fiasco.

That should have been my first clue, but I was distracted and not paying much attention. I dropped off a dress to be taken in. A simple task. 18.00. Sign says "alterations done on site." Yet, I have been in twice to get my dress and they say it's "not back yet." They don't honor the dates they put on your claim ticket and then they use excuses like "she was in the hospital." They are aloof and all employees are Hispanic. I don't know that anything is done on site. I never saw anyone in the back area working or cleaning. Why would a dry cleaning business stink like that. After I couldn't get my dress on time, I told them to cancel another alterations order I had dropped off and they said "oh they will be here on Monday." Yet, it took them 3 weeks to do simple alterations on a dress. There is something wrong with this entire picture. Customers BEWARE!!!! I wouldn't take a dirty diaper here!

She altered the dress in the photos for my wedding in June of 2024. I had this dress custom made by a designer in Europe and while the quality was spectacular the fit was totally off. Claudia was so innovative in her alterations and made this dress fit me like a glove. She also altered my reception dress (pink dress pictured). The bodice was too wide and she not only made it fit perfectly but was able to install another strip of boning in the center front to keep the aesthetic of the dress. Her talent is exceptional!

I found El Ranchito through Google (didn't look at reviews, just wanted to see if they only carried boots like some western wear places do). We stopped over today shortly after opening (11am as per google) but their sign read that they open at noon. No problem. Just know they open around noon. Place is small, but packed with neat stuff. Good stuff. (I'm not a huge western wear person, but grew up in a small farm town and know a thing or two about what to look for in a decent thread.) El Ranchito had a big selection and the quality of their product was really decent. Not like last-forever quality but pretty decent. Prices were fair in the current economy. I'd really recommend taking a look if you like anything western or are trying to make a costume. The staff were super nice. Not fake nice like most people working in retail. They seemed happy, which means a lot to me when I stop into any place. They keep their shop clean and cool. There's a dressing room. It's really chill in there. Check it out.
