The center has some nice sections on the wall labelled STAY, DINE, RIDE, PLAY, SHOP, etc...Very well organized and lots of pamphlets and information. Nice large bathrooms as well.

Unfortunately we didnt expect the 2 feet of rain that cut our day short. The woman who's name escapes me was so helpful kind and genuinely wants to help you on your journey. Thanks to her we did see some good spots in Chatham and on the way back over the bridge. They have great free magazines on different parts of the region that are worth keeping as a momento. We will revisit just to say hi next year. This place is a great resource

They have clean restrooms (major plus), although we never had issues finding bathroom while strolling around Boston. They have great maps of Boston and a nice one of the subway system, super helpful. This is where Freedom Trail starts, you can book tours here. They don't have an actual map for it, I printed one I found online because I didn't want to do a guided tours, I wanted to hit all the spots. Nice customer service, a friendly crew working here. They sell a nice souvenir selection, OK prices, I snagged a few, a lobster Christmas ornament for myself because... Great place to shop for souvenirs, you won't find many shops in town. When you start your Boston trip, start here for map, advice, info and a souvenir or two!

It's got an amphiteater outside, a theater inside as well as an auditorium, museum, bookstore and a volunteer information desk...Very complete. They show movies throughout the day so you check on the schedule. They also have lots of maps that show bike trails, hiking trails, beaches, etc... Salt Pond Visitor Center plays the seashore's award-winning orientation movie, Standing Bold, throughout the day, and other films show on rotation. Films have open captions and assistive listening. Staff are on duty to assist with trip planning. Brochures and maps are available; ask about the Junior Ranger and B.A.R.K. Ranger programs. Many ranger-guided activities occur or begin at the center. Evening programs are routinely held at the outdoor amphitheater or indoor auditorium during the summer. Nearby are the popular 1.5 mile Nauset Marsh Trail, the Nauset Bicycle Trail, and the Buttonbush Trail, a .25 mile multi-sensory trail that features a guide rope and text panels printed in large lettering and Braille, as well as discovery activities for children. In the visitor center lobby, a large map shows Cape Cod's glacial history, its position in the Gulf of Maine, and natural forces that continue to shape it. There are expansive views of the Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh from the lobby. The visitor center museum emphasizes the cultural themes represented on Cape Cod, including the First People--the Wampanoag; European settlement culture; fishing, life-saving, and lighthouses; communication technology; and tourism. Very complete and educational....Just pleasant and very nicely laid out.

We got personal attention from three (!) different park rangers there, including starting the video…read more(informative) on demand and answering a few questions knowledgeably. (I also appreciated the answer to one my son had -- 'I don't know, but let's find out...' leading to some on the spot research.) The whaling exhibit isn't too big so you don't have to allot a lot of time, but do linger to look at the small exhibit on the history of the attempts to preserved New Bedford's historic district, which is fascinating all by itself. That was actually the highlight for me. The little gift shop was nice and varied from what was available at the Whaling Museum and the souvenir stores, and in particular has a nice selection of books. This is definitely the place you should start at if you're doing a tour of downtown, but if you're pressed for time, start with the Whaling museum (now really a general history center) and then come here if you have time left over.

The person staffing the information center proved to be very informative though he never cracked a smile during our 5 minute conversation. Of note: I saw a blurb for Museum for American Illustration, which I hope to see in the future. Also, clean facilities, which is really what is the most important thing for me when travelling. Free and very spacious parking.
