I am writing this review keeping in mind that I probably won't ever pay a visit her to anybody and if I do ever end here, it would be to work here, which I won't write a review about. Napa State is an old state hospital with an outdated and historic look. It is a large hospital and located right across a common community area and a community college across the street, not something you would imagine, but that is where it stands. The entire thing is fenced off but it is rather easy to get on the premises, you can get through the gate and park. There are lot of cops around on patrol and some just driving around keeping an eye on the place. The place seems quiet with no one around. Old buildings around and you will see some occasional people walking around, patients or not? I have no idea. If you do plan on visiting here or visiting someone here, make sure to look at their website of what to bring and what not to bring for the person that you may be visiting. Let me add to this review. Not only did this place ruin my life for two years. I had two vehicles stolen from me yet a black police officer in San Ramon handcuffed me while I was just having lunch. I didn't do anything and they imprisoned me for vehicle theft when I never stole a vehicle. They let me out after two years with nothing. It took me three weeks to get my identification back to access my bank in which I had to sleep on park benches for three weeks. I tried to report the officer but was told San Ramon has no black police officers. As if this wasn't bad enough one of their workers started emailing and video calling me every day through Facebook. He came to my home, took me out several times and then told me he wished I weighed less and that he may have diseases after he was intimate with me and then never saw me again. I don't sleep around and have had only one partner in my whole life. He prayed on an innocent person that was a patient and put my health at risk as well as tried to hurt my self esteem. He should be fired! I had to have every single std test done because of him. read more

During my stay at the Napa state hospital while incompetent to stand trial the treatment was awful and appalling human rights violation as I was stripped of my right as a pretrial detainee and any liberties after a misdiagnosed about mental health to the contra Costa County superior court who was a private corporation there UCC filing number is 167511834511 and knowingly misleading the people in the proceeding and because I was deemed in competent the court do this when a person know the law and advocate for himself or others and is then called incompetent I was then forced to the state hospital on February 15, 2018 where the doctor lee Hamilton and Dr velisa ho psychologist who mis diagnosed me There are No Tests in Existence That Can Prove Mental "Disorders" are Medical Conditions. Psychiatric Diagnosis is Based Solely on Opinion. in Which is based out of the dsm 4 were Dr.ho read out of a book and only observed it through brief evaluation and the test provided no valuable information as there are no genetic tests, no brain scans, blood tests, chemical imbalance tests or X-rays that can scientifically/medically prove that I had any psychiatric disorder is a medical condition. Beautiful grounds. Wonderful patients and staff. The napa state hospital police are highly trained and they do a wonderful job keeping everyone safe and abiding. The Drs keep everyone healthy and happy. The groups are super informative. You can learn tons about the brain, personal psychosis, sholin, and budist education, meditation and health practices(wim hof), anger management, controlling your thoughts and changing them, psychology and therapy. The psychiatric nurses are calm and respective, they are able to keep contraband and violence out of each unit. However they could do a better job labeling urine tests so people don't get false positives. They are understanding when this happens but sometimes seem to not realize the obvious. The food I would have to rate a six or so. It definitely gets old fast. Thes patients really deserve the best food. The have to spend most of there long lives eating the same thing every 3 weeks! Most of them are alive and well. There id a gym and track that patients love and utilize whenever possible. They allow the opportunity to garden. Which reminds me that there are many fruit trees, peach. That have curly leaf. Very unfortunate. Shout out to the mall staff. Units T9, T10, T5 staff. Great work beautiful people read more

Since 1875 Napa State Hospital has been helping people with mental illness with compassion and care. It sits in a beautiful setting in south Napa also known as Imola. Group therapy, one on one, cbt, medication and more help those who need it the most. The staff is respectful and caring. I have a relative that has been placed in Napa. This person is in on a 1370 hold, which means she has broken the law was deemed incompetent by the court, and placed there for treatment to become competent for court. When I first found out I was very skeptical and fearful of her placement there. This relative has been in county jail for about 9 months before sent to Napa. In the first 9 months I had contact with this relative, and saw some improvement in her behavior. She was addicted to drugs and alcohol and Is bipolar with schzoaffective disorder. She had been homeless and on the streets for close to 16 years. She was in pretty bad shape by the time she was arrested. I received a call from her within ten days of her placement in Napa. Inmates are allowed a free 10 minute call once a week. She told me she was much happier there, was treated very well Had outdoor priveledges several times a day. Over the last 3 months she has participated in classes, worked with a team of professionals, whom have prepared her for court, fine tuned medication for her, and given her anDC her family hope that she will be released and be able to begin a new life. The change is dramatic. Our conversations with her are now normal! It is amazing. My hats off to the staff of nurses social workers rehab techs and police officers, that have treated my relative with dignity and respect while helping her rehabilitate. The hospital also put on a thanksgiving feast which we were invited to. It was an amazing experience, families with inmates enjoying a thanksgiving dinner together. It costs 10.00 a plate for family, and the food was fantastic. I am amazed at how far this hospital has come. I wanted to write this for family or others that may be frightened at the prospect of loved ones being placed there. It is a penal institution. But they do their jobs with compassion and empathy, and treat my relative with dignity. read more
