I recently visited a relative that was admitted to this hospital and there seems to be nice outdoor landscaping for patients and visitors to enjoy. Outside on the first floor there are various landscape art pieces and lots of different plants. On the third floor there is an outdoor courtyard with lots of raised beds filled with decorative flowers, vegetables, and even fruit trees. There is also a 1950s era Kaiser car that is in mint condition. Behind the car there is a plaque explaining the history of the car. There are also outdoor tables and chairs for patients and visitors to enjoy the courtyard. Security seems to be nonexistent here as anyone can go into the hospital which seems to be a safety issue. There are many security cameras and a sign prohibiting firearms, however there should be a check in process for authorized visitors to visit patients. There is a parking structure and parking lot under solar panels so cars are kept out of the sun. In the parking lot there is an ample amount of accessible parking. The pathway leading to the accessible spaces is much wider and there is a generous amount of room between the spaces for adequate egress. read more

If you are reading this, you likely have a loved one who is heading into rehab, spinal cord injury or stroke related. I am writing this because there isn't much info about this place, and I had a family member in here for about 3 weeks. I wanted info, but found little, so here is my way of helping someone else who may be coming to this rough patch in the road. OVERALL: 10/10 WHERE IS IT? It's a section of the 3rd floor of the main Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, it is not a separate building. There are 2 sections of rooms, both on the 3rd floor. One section is directly above the Labor & Delivery (2nd floor), and the other section is in the main hospital wing. PARKING: You can park in Lot 2 (open to anyone) or park in the parking garage, park closest to the elevators. Parking is free in both areas. It gets busy, so they even have a parking valet until 5pm in the main loop. WHAT HAPPENS? They will take the patient in, and the doctor will do a quick initial assessment when the patient arrives. The doctor will likely ask the patient to rest for the remainder of day. The following day is an assessment by all of the specialist departments, OT, PT, and Speech Therapy (which is also related to memory). They have a huddle and decide what would be the best plan of action for rehab, and determine an estimated discharge date. Most patients had about 2 weeks as their initial window. Depending on the progress, they could extend the therapy for an additional 5 days if they believe progress is being made, so your timeline may be extended. Ours was extended twice. DAILY: The patients are given a daily schedule of all their 30-minute therapy classes (some acronyms were new to me: OTD is OT for dressing in the morning, RME is resistance mat exercises). Weekend class schedule is different and varies per patient, usually less classes. If no family member is there to take the patient to their class, the nurses or therapists get them there. There are lines on the floor to help navigate the area: PT is red, Speech is orange, OT is green, and admin offices is brown. ROOMS: Some patients get a large private room, and some are in a quad-room which separates 4 patients by hospital curtains. Just depends on what opens up first. VISITORS: They allow one guest to stay full-time in the patient's room. You can request a pull out bed that is surprisingly comfortable. You can shower in the patient's bathroom (some have Jack & Jill bathrooms between 2 patients rooms, so be sure to lock both doors). Your loved one will likely be tired from all the therapy classes, so try to limit guests so they can rest. AMENITIES: They have a laundry room where you can bring your own HE (high efficiency) detergent, and wash clothes for free. There is a family room which is a large room with tables for families to visit with their loved one. You also could do some laptop work in there if needed. Ice and water dispensers, shared fridge so be sure to label your items, and hospital type snacks (graham crackers, soup broth, etc) The family room by the rehab gym is nicer and more well lit than the one in the other area. FOOD: There is a standard hospital cafeteria on the 1st floor. During the week they have a salad bar, hot foods, and cold foods. Weekends is a small menu. On Mondays and Fridays there is a farmer's market. Down Sereno Drive (left when exiting the hospital) are 2 grocery stores (Food Basket and 168) and a small neighborhood Walmart. If you can drive, go across 80, there are lots of food options and stores (Target, Nick the Greek, Ike's, Starbucks, Costco, DSW, Marshalls, In-n-Out, etc) LODGING: If you need to stay somewhere, the Homewood Suites in Fairfield is about a 15 minute drive up 80, from the hospital. It's equipped with a kitchen and small gym, plus free breakfast in the mornings. Park in the front, the back gets extremely dark. Leave zero items in your vehicle, and you are good. First of all the staff are all kind and compassionate and work really hard. My family member arrived just before a strike by therapists. (Nurses here are not on strike as they belong to a different union) It was fairly obvious on day one of the strike who the regular therapists were and who were replacement therapists. Replacement therapists were not familiar with equipment, room locations etc and therefore time in actual therapy was delayed several times. Now my loved one is to be discharged and is nowhere near ready. Kaiser has only 2/3rd of the beds open due to staffing concerns. Other patients are waiting to be admitted so no one is getting their care extended apparently. Kaiser should do the right thing and settle this strike ASAP! It's unconscionable to try to break the unions. Healthcare workers will only strike as a last resort to reach a settlement and do not take their vote lightly. Kaiser is putting patients lives at risk by allowing the strike to occur in the first place. Its CEO's salary is $23 million and profits are obscene for a "not for profit" hospital chain. These workers deserve a decent wage increase and more staffing to help them provide the care they've been trained to provide. read more

When there and could not even walk (broken back) stayed there 22 days and now I am on my way to complete recovery!!! The people there are compassionet and caring..the physical therapy people are great at getting you to work on the things that will help you!! This is my wife's second visit to Kaiser's KFRC in Vallejo, California due to 3 brain tumor related surgeries in 2025. Dr Frantz, RN Olivia T and PT Jordan helped my wife and actually all three helped my wife earlier this year. Dr Frantz and her staff including the security guards are all experts in the field. A Family member of mine in currently in this facility after a horrific bike accident. He was transferred after 6 days at Stanford. Vallejo is almost 2 hours on a good traffic day from his Family. He was put in a room with 3 other patients this was not at all a healing environment for him. He is so motivated to learn to walk and move again and made tremendous progress at Stanford. but also needs sleep to heal, something that's impossible in these conditions. He was promised a room so he could practice on his own and get rest. Instead he's in a hell hole. The staff is great (why I gave 2 stars) but the way he's packed into a room is horrible. My Daughter can't take pictures of the exercises in PT due to Hippa (understandable) however due to the size of the room and lack of privacy then Hippa law seems unimportant as everyone's Care condition etc are heard by all! Terribly disappointing the liaison between Kaiser and Stanford was so helpful, yet not one case manager has not responded or just popped in to talk to them. Do Better Kaiser!!! read more

I am so grateful to this rehab center. My husband was seriously impacted by brain surgery and this facility gave him some function back. I was continuously impressed with their kindness and competency. PT, OT and speech, all the nurses and doctors, and the wonderful woman who runs the center- they were all went above and beyond. After 4 visits to the Kaiser San Leandro ER (within a month) my mom was finally stable after suffering a stroke back in March... Once medically stable, she was transferred to Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center - Vallejo (April) for acute care as the first couple of months are the most critical for ones recovery of mobility, language and speech and gaining the independence she once had (or close to it). Facility is in the older section of the hospital but have all the necessary equipment for ones recovery whether it be from a stroke, brain injury, car accident or post surgery rehabilitation. My moms stay was about 10 days with daily scheduled physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Staff was very kind, friendly, helpful and offered encouragement to my mom reaching her potential...I had to laugh at some of my mom's comments to the nurses "I don't need physical therapy today, I'm not trying to be an athlete" or "I don't plan on training for a marathon" as the therapists really challenged her. I know there were many days she wasn't feeling well but staying at the rehabilitation didn't allow her to make excuses to do her therapy. Nothing to complain about other than the roommate situation and early morning showers. Unfortunately, mom had 2 roommates that were loud (with guests, volume in the tv) and not very considerate. This is where the facility need to enforce/change visiting hours (thinks it's 24hrs) and/or phone hours after 10:30 pm...my mom said she would hear her 2 roommates on the phone for hours though my mom didn't speak up either as she didn't want to cause problems. Hmmm For the early morning showers...my mom said they would wake her up before 630am so they could help her with showering which she was not thrilled about at all even though the occupational therapist were kind and helpful. Now let's talk about the food! Okay I kid and was perfectly fine. Food was served like clockwork: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a couple times my mom asked to skip as she was still full from lunch. She was served a lot of salmon and polenta during her stay due to diet restrictions and was actually simple and perfectly cooked ...um yeah I had some! ;) Overall, I knew my mom was in good hands at KFRC during a very emotionally and mentally draining time. Fortunately , she is doing much better and slowly making incremental improvements and just finished with home-based care and now moving to out-patient services. I know she'll get back to her country-line dancing and tai chi again...though she'll skip the marathons! Had an amazing experience in Vallejo at KFRC. Everyone there is amazing. I wish I could give every single nurse a Daisy award! The treatment there was absolutely amazing. Everyone was so kind and caring. The PT and OT departments were equally amazing with their care and knowledge. The Doctors were equally very caring. I asked the psychologist if she could stop in daily due to my depression when I arrived. She always stopped in and if I wasn't around she would swing back by later in the day. read more

We have an adult family member who had a major stoke with paralysis on the left side, was unable to swallow or speak, and was at a different Kaiser hospital about 60 miles away. We were told that our family member would be eligible for rehabilitation care at Kaiser's Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo so we decided to have our family member transported there. What Kaiser didn't tell us was the maximum stay for patients there was only for two weeks or that minimal rehabilitation was offered that did not really benefit patients who were dealing with major debilitating effects from strokes or accidents. The nursing staff at the Rehabilitation Center generally provided good care. Most therapy sessions were less than half an hour with therapists often rushing to see their next patient whom had to be transported from the other side of the hospital. Our family member did not really benefit from the limited rehabilitation that was offered by the therapists during their short stay and was sent home by Kaiser with medical issues that were not fully addressed. If you have had a major stroke or accident and need more extensive physical, occupational and speech therapy, then think twice about going to Kaiser's Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo! read more

I cannot for the life of me understand a negative review of Kaiser Rehabilitation Vallejo. Everyone from the nurses aides, nurses, rehabilitation technicians, Doctors and food service were first class. The actual rehab facility could not have been better. Anything needed to aide in the rehabilitation of a patient was there. My wife arrived after a stroke left her paralyzed on her left side, unable to walk and feeling her life was over. She was discharged 10 days later able to walk 150 feet unassisted with a walker with someone guarding against a fall. She knew and she was going to continue recovering until she was back to 100%. read more

I just don't know where I would be today without this AMAZING facility and its staff! I suffered a spinal cord injury and was paralyzed. After a lumbar laminectomy and discectomy I was sent to this facility for rehabilitation. I didn't know what to expect and I was going through a very emotional time. When I arrived I was scared but the staff comforted me right away. I began a VERY intense physical therapy program the next day and also started occupational therapy to learn how to use a wheel chair and still do all of the things in life I used to do. After two weeks of 8 hours of therapy a day I took my first steps! I slowly started to regain some sensation as a result of the surgery I had and by the time I left the hospital a month later I was walking tiny steps with a walker. I owe my life to this hospital and its staff... the first couple of weeks after a spinal cord injury are crucial, without this rehab center I would not have received the training I received and may not be walking today. The staff here is amazing... from the doctors to the nurses and of course the physical therapists! First, they MUST be rated low for residents of the the SF Bay area who do NOT already live in the East Bay, North of the Carquinez bridge: IT IS A HUGE DISSERVICE FOR THE PATIENT'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO TRY TO GET TO THIS REMOTE center during rehab. The location of the rehab center was a conscious BAD decision, made for devious reasons NOT in the patient's or family's interests. IF ONE IS A FRISCO OR PENINSULA OR EAST BAY RESIDENT, they simply must have a rehab center within an hour's drive, NOT ONE THAT MAY TAKE THREE+ HOURS MANY TIMES OF EVERY DAY. I also must criticize Kaiser for their inflexible reliance on PROTOCOLS that distract Doctors from CRITICAL intellectual curiosity and staying up-to-date in their various fields. There is much more to be said on this important facet of pre-and-post-op care. After extensive contact with them in the course of a relative's stroke rehab, I cannot now recommend Kaiser for any health provider care: pre-op, PROCEDURES, or post-op. They seem to be one step above a 3rd-world medical establishment, frankly. read more

Cardiology Dept: Very upsetting and disorganized. I was dx with severe aortic stenosis approx. 5 years ago. The first cardiologist I went to - no longer there - made me feel stressed and that I would need surgery imminently. I have never liked Kaiser as a rule as growing up in Napa with the small clinic and even when the clinic was rebuilt to accommodate more patients, I still felt uncomfortable having care beyond anything for minor issues and routine health care. For my heart condition, I underwent the tests for evaluations; e.g.: Ecocardiograms; IV CT scans. Long story short, I left Kaiser after gaining employment where I had another choice for a health care program. I went to a private cardiologist in Napa who was my mother's doctor and he was fantastic. We discussed options for surgical repair for my situation and natural treatment in between waiting. Unfortunately, this job ended and I took a job with my current employer only using Kaiser, so I took off where I left off. I went to the SF campus of which I feel are a good group. I have been working with a surgeon who seems to know his stuff; however, I inquired about having a less invasive procedure for my heart surgery called TAVR rather than the more higher risk open heart of which my heart is stopped and I am placed on a machine where the machine is making my body work - NOT comfortable with this for many reasons. I have not been symptomatic; however, the surgical team tells me that my valve has become narrowed as I have a bicuspid valve - this is a birth defect - not anything a person does. So I have been holding off on surgery due to Covid and other reasons. Last Thursday, I was scheduled for an angiogram - again - much to my uncomfortable feelings due to the process. I emphasized that I had to have a ride and I would need to depend on someone coming from SF to Vallejo to give me a ride home to Napa and did not have the leisure to be held up all damn day. I asked for the procedure to be done through my arm rather than the groin to reduce possibility of extended bleeding - AGAIN, no one could be specific - the left hand didn't know what the hell the right hand was doing as is usual with dippy Kaiser. The night before the procedure, I was called by the Nurse to review the events and to "put my mind at ease..." yeah f-----g Right. On my arrival for check-in, there was no one at the admissions desk. I asked the receptionist in the entrance and she assisted me only to get a phone recording. FINALLY, some dip shit answered in admissions asking by phone a bunch of stupid questions having nothing to do with my procedure....on and on. By now, I am beyond irritated. So finally, this fat ass comes out and asks me to sign the consent of which I did not see and was totally going to say - No F-----g way - what am I agreeing to. So I decided to wait for the nurse to come and get me so I could ask questions before deciding to proceed. So here she finally comes 45 minutes after I was to check in. Again asking a bunch of stupid questions; e.g.: are you Ms. Roberts? DAHHHH ... do you know what procedure you are having? DAHHHHHH??? I was so stressed and irate with the process already, when the nurse came to explain the process, I stated, F--K this!!! I don't want the procedure - I am not comfortable going through all this inconsistency. This is my health and heart and I am NOT agreeing to anything. I further stated that I may indefinitely cancel surgery in April. I am not and never have been satisfied with Kaiser's manner of doing health care. They are a methodology of health practices where they treat a dx as a dx and not individuals for their individual situations. I filed a complaint and I doubt it will go anywhere as I have complained before only to talk to someone who is clueless of how to address. I don't recommend Kaiser for anything. I am so stressed right now that the stress has caused me more physical harm than my heart condition itself. DON'T RECOMMEND KAISER. They sucked years ago and still do. These are people who can't get jobs anywhere else so they go to Kaiser.. I am VERY UNHAPPY with my health care. read more

Sorry to have to agree with the negative review by Sidney O. above. I spent a lot of time there with an elderly relative who had suffered a brain injury. The program is very rigid, mainly because the doctors call all the shots, and they do not seem particularly knowledgeable and rely on standard protocols without regard for the patient´s history. They seem have little apparent relationship with the therapists who do all the work, and who are on the patients team as well as the nurses. Many heavy-duty drugs were given or strongly encouraged to be taken that were unwanted, unnecessary and risky, including narcotic and non-narcotic pain killers, and sleeping pills, diuretics, laxatives, antibiotics. My uncle´s doctor threatened to discharge him (to where they did not say) because he suffered some seizures, which were of course the very cause of the head injury he came in with. (By the way, the weekend substitute doctors seemed superior to the regulars, far more approachable, so too bad they were just subs.) The physical and occupational therapists were skillful, sensitive and dedicated. so hats off to them for working in an environment where their important skills are not optimized, and for working in a cumbersome bureaucratic system. And don´t let the name Rehabilitation Center get you overly optimistic. This is a very much a standard hospital setting, with better than average hospital food, and where patients are given a couple of hours of therapy per day, and there is a large gym with modern rehab equipment. Most of their spare time is spent in bed or left to sit in a wheelchair. However, I must repeat that most of the nurses, as well as the therapists and social workers, are to be commended for their skill, caring and dedication, even while at times seeming to bristle under some of the doctor´s orders and protocols. read more

My mom received exemplary rehabilitation here after her recent stroke. As a nurse myself, I find the negative reviews confusing as toward their description of the program as being rigid. They are using tried and true techniques to bring out the full potential in each patient after their stroke. As to the facility being in Vallejo? I'm sorry if people feel that it was inconvenient for them, but we are just grateful that despite the drive for us that my mother was able to get into this facility and progress as much as she did while she was there. I feel that each component of her therapy, from physical to occupational to speech/memory, and discharge planning was comprehensive and well done. They were excellent about including the family into decisions and the rehabilitation process. Not every patient is going to be the right fit for this program, just like any other program, but I have no complaints at all about the care or the rehabilitation there. I had a stroke at 33 years old which was a shock because I am a really healthy guy. Nonetheless after going to Eden hospital and then kaiser walnut creek we ended up at this kaiser acute rehab in vallejo. All the therapists are great like Jamie, and all the nurses are great especially charles and linda. Dr sam is fantastic! The Neurophyc doc Natasha as well. I feel like I'm leaving out names but the whole staff was great. I'm leaving today but they gave us so many tools in our toolbox to continue rehab at home. I really agree with the opinions of others about this hospital and I recommend this place to recover from a stroke. Thank you vallejo you helped me get my life back on track! read more
