Older section of the hospital - 3-4 people to a room
    Cheryl M.

After 4 visits to the Kaiser San Leandro ER (within a month) my mom was finally stable after suffering a stroke back in March... Once medically stable, she was transferred to Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center - Vallejo (April) for acute care as the first couple of months are the most critical for ones recovery of mobility, language and speech and gaining the independence she once had (or close to it). Facility is in the older section of the hospital but have all the necessary equipment for ones recovery whether it be from a stroke, brain injury, car accident or post surgery rehabilitation. My moms stay was about 10 days with daily scheduled physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Staff was very kind, friendly, helpful and offered encouragement to my mom reaching her potential...I had to laugh at some of my mom's comments to the nurses "I don't need physical therapy today, I'm not trying to be an athlete" or "I don't plan on training for a marathon" as the therapists really challenged her. I know there were many days she wasn't feeling well but staying at the rehabilitation didn't allow her to make excuses to do her therapy. Nothing to complain about other than the roommate situation and early morning showers. Unfortunately, mom had 2 roommates that were loud (with guests, volume in the tv) and not very considerate. This is where the facility need to enforce/change visiting hours (thinks it's 24hrs) and/or phone hours after 10:30 pm...my mom said she would hear her 2 roommates on the phone for hours though my mom didn't speak up either as she didn't want to cause problems. Hmmm For the early morning showers...my mom said they would wake her up before 630am so they could help her with showering which she was not thrilled about at all even though the occupational therapist were kind and helpful. Now let's talk about the food! Okay I kid and was perfectly fine. Food was served like clockwork: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a couple times my mom asked to skip as she was still full from lunch. She was served a lot of salmon and polenta during her stay due to diet restrictions and was actually simple and perfectly cooked ...um yeah I had some! ;) Overall, I knew my mom was in good hands at KFRC during a very emotionally and mentally draining time. Fortunately , she is doing much better and slowly making incremental improvements and just finished with home-based care and now moving to out-patient services. I know she'll get back to her country-line dancing and tai chi again...though she'll skip the marathons! Thank you to all the caring staff who helped her along the way and keeping her motivated.

We returned home within a short time (1hour 15 minutes) and proceeded to indulge in the BLT. The sandwich was not eatable. The bacon was stuck together and so hard that there was no breaking through it. I proceeded to take the bacon off from between the croissant. Upon doing so, I found the bacon to be old or overly cooked. There was no way to eat the sandwich. I called kaiser and was transferred several times to the cafeteria. each time the ringing was long and then picked up and hung up. May 21, 2026 Another appointment at the Vacaville location for my mother. i then went down to this cafeteria and asked for the manager. I wanted to know if this location was operating under the same contract as the Vallejo location. The manager was summoned (middle-aged Asian female). Reiterating the issue, I was told that the sandwich was made to be eaten immediately (WHAT!). i responded by telling her that the timeline wasn't even 2 hours after buying. She then asked me for my credit card number in reference to the purchase. She wanted me to write it down for her. NOW THIS REQUEST IS CRAZY! I tell her, "Thank you" but "no thank you" and walk away. She tries to adjust her response but it's too late for me. May 22, 2026 I call back to Kaiser Vallejo and receive the same phone results (3 calls/no results). After three times of calling, long ringing and then phone picked up/hung up, I call one more time. This time the operator directs me to call the director (Jonh Healy) I complete the phone call and call Mr. Healy immediately. I was met with a voicemail and left a detailed message of the problem with contact number. I now await a callback.

Both the lady and male security guards went out of their way to locate my grandma's cane we had left a month prior. The nurses (Kaitlyn in med surge) and Carmie (CNA) at her most recent hospitalization were thorough with both managing her care, but also sharing her discharge information. I really appreciated the encouraging words from them as well. I can't speak on much of the doctors themselves, but my grandma's alive and doing well so I'd say that's been good. My only complaints are: the small ED lobby that feels like a bubble of germs with the circle of seats to cough onto each other. The lack of communication with wait times in between information given once you're in a room in the ED... and bedside with some ER doctors. But that's par the course for most hospitals.

She's amazing and overall Sutter has been a great place to have my medical care. Thank you again!

Otherwise be prepared to walk about a quarter mile to get to the emergency entrance. You might be able to send a companion to get a wheelchair if needed. Or call the front desk and explain the problem. I've never tried this but it may be necessary. I popped in on Thursday morning and there was no line for emergency. Miracle! The only thing the receptionist had to do was wave me through. The nurses were relaxed and friendly Even the paperwork had been tamed by technology. I spent about 2-3 hours there. Everyone was relaxed and friendly probably because it was just a whole bunch of tests and I most likely wouldn't drop on them suddenly. Sadly the tests failed to pinpoint the problem and they recommended, nay, commanded I go see a specialist. Unfortunately I've spent enough time in emergency rooms to realize this is common. They simply don't have time or expertise do anything except eliminate the most dangerous And urgent problems. All in all, the staff either met or exceeded expectations There is always a major bummer in the emergency room that stops you from feeling sorry for yourself. I wish that unknown woman next to me the very best.

First off, I've never had any problems with registration any time I've been here. The most recent registration clerk, that helped us out, was a very sweet and friendly woman. We had a great conversation while she checked my mom in for her surgery. In fact, all of the staff that I've interacted with are amazing, except the hospitalist that initially admitted me into the hospital nearly 5 years ago (he was a bit of a jerk). The other hospitalist I had was amazing. When he found out I was going into medicine, when he caught me studying for organic chemistry back then, he basically pampered me. I remember before he discharged me, he gave me candy and just talked to me about his experience going through medical school back in the day. It was quite entertaining and it helped to distract me from my predicament at that time. The facility itself is well kept and orderly, including the waiting room by the ER. The pre/post-op surgery room still looks the same after nearly 10 years of having my last surgery at this facility. It's not super spacious; however, it get's the job done. The inpatient rooms, from what I can remember, are pretty spacious. I was lucky enough to have a room to myself, when I was admitted almost 5 years ago, and I had a view of the helicopter pad (which I don't believe they use anymore). I like the new area where family members can wait on their loved ones who are having surgery. It's conveniently located right next to the cafeteria, which is helpful if you are stuck at the hospital for nearly 12 hours like I was. They also have a screen where you can check up on your loved one's surgery status (as in if they're still in pre-op, currently having the procedure, or are in recovery). Overall, I'm very satisfied with the care that my mom and I received here. The staff here are wonderful at what they do. They are truly compassion for patients and their families.

When my father was transferred to the ICU all family were invited in, we are had accepted and new it was our final hours. This is where Carlee stepped in, she was the angel we needed. She was our nurse and handled the whole process with love in her heart and actions. Again the doctors up there came around talking in circles and I had to correct them on the events of the day because they were just making things up and acting like they knew. Treating us like idiots. All the doctors I had an interaction with could have never shown there faces or talked in circles and just not been there and they would have never been missed. They were useless. The staff on that floor, besides the doctors, were angels and let us have our last hours with him be what we needed to let him go peacefully. Language barriers beside, the bedside manners of these doctors is ridiculous, they know nothing of "care" without Carlee, Erica and surrounding staff, that place would be abandoned. As my Father was passing and after he passed Erica came up stairs to see how he was. She was human, and compassionate. After he passed and we had our time, there were hugs and tears on both sides. The Doctors, absent. I enjoyed that, I am afraid I would have shared my feelings with them in a bad way. I plan on going back and thanking the staff that did there job as soon as I can do it without losing it. Thank you Erica and Carlee and God bless you and staff for doing what you do.
