My mother was a resident at this facility in November of last year, where she ultimately passed away due to dementia and other serious health conditions. During her stay, the quality of care was inconsistent. While a few nurses went above and beyond in caring for my mother, and for that my family is truly grateful, many others appeared unwilling to do more than the bare minimum required of their job duties. Thankfully, my siblings and I were able to step in and help fill the gaps in care that we felt were lacking. Toward the end of my mother's life, there were times when it felt as though she was being ignored rather than compassionately cared for. What was most upsetting was the way our family was treated after my mother passed away. We were not given adequate time, privacy, or respect to grieve before her body was removed from the facility. That experience added unnecessary pain to an already heartbreaking moment for our family. In addition, Deborah, the Director of the facility, was consistently rude, unprofessional, and argumentative in our interactions with her. There was also an incident involving another patient, where decisions were made before the full situation was properly investigated, resulting in my mother being moved to another side of the facility. Based on my family's experience, I would not recommend this facility to others seeking compassionate and respectful care for their loved ones. read more

I was quite cautious about having my mother go to Napa Valley Care Center after she fell and broke her pelvis because one of the recent State surveys was not glowing. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. While I always think it is important to have family advocates visiting and interceding for their family members, I found the staff attentive in a myriad of ways. Even though, this is a large facility, all the nursing staff seemed aware of my mother's fears, issues and likes and dislikes and were quite helpful. They genuinely seemed to appreciate her sweet personality. The physical therapy and occupational therapy department worked well with her and got her up to speed quickly. The facility itself has been recently remodeled and is pleasant to the eye. The facility did not smell like a "nursing home". The nursing aids were friendly although pulling extra shifts, due to being short staffed. The social worker and the head of nursing were very approachable. I think the recreational/dining area could use some work, and the food was often on the cold side, but my mother always ate everything and seemed to like it. All and all, my mother healed quickly and was not traumatized by being away from home during the Christmas holidays for a solid month. Th only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the food/kitchen staff. The nurses went beyond what was expected, physical therapy and occupational therapy were outstanding and EVERYONE so professional yet compassionate. I highly recommend Napa Valley Care Center. After reading these reviews, I am actually surprised. First, if you read another review I posted of a SNF in Greenbrae, I'm familiar with the care that is expected. In fact, I've cared for both my parents, my brother, and have come to thoroughly enjoy my visits with my former bfs mom (there should be a name for this) who is currently here. I'm here at least 2-3 times per week. This review is going to Nurse Station #3 - from what I have seen - they are responsive, they are attentive, they are consistent. Again, I'm comparing to the experience of a supposed upscale SNF in Greenbrae which was horrible in comparison. I did question the nurse on the swelling I seen of my FMOX (Former Mother of Ex), she immediately told me how they were treating etc. I was very satisfied of their answer, and they approved that I could try a foot massager on her (ended up not working so I massaged her feet myself). Her CNA also explained why they had to keep her "up", which made sense after my FMOX was complaining of wanting to get back in bed. Their patience of my questioning is appreciated and I know enough that they are not saying BS to keep me quiet. ANYWAYS, every time I'm visiting there is always 2-3 people checking in on her. She gets her showers regularly and PT always shows up on time! They do report on any problems she is having which is so appreciated. I do go in and wipe down her tables etc, and don't find any build up of debris/dust so I know the upkeep is there. I also know there are many others who provide care to her beyond Nurse Station 3 - so thank you for all your hard work. I know this is a tough job, and thank you for being there. read more

I am livid right now! My brother is currently ensconced in this joke of a facility because he fell at is retirement home. They give him no information. Correction: THEY GAVE HIM COVID!! They ignore him. His call button could literally be on all day - doesn't matter. When someone walks by and he asks a question, he is ignored. I have called for a week straight. Cannot get a return call despite the costant promise of same. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS. OBVIOUSLY KEEPING HIM THERE TO COLLECT THE MONEY. THIS FACILITY IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH I would give zero stars if I could. There are a couple great nurses here and to them I give thanks, to one in particular, thank you for being so kind to my mom. Other than that, the despicable, shameful, management staff of this place let my mother fall not once, but twice, on her recently operated on hip. 2 falls within one week, and this is while she was sitting at the nurses station right in front of them. The second fall resulted in a huge bruise on her head and a deep, bloody laceration on her back that they did not tell me about and I found myself after my mother complained her back hurt. Two weeks later my mother suddenly (after no health problems other than a broken hip for 30 years) became weak, lethargic and was admitted to the hospital for stomach bleeding of which they could not find the origin. They did NOT call me to tell me this, and I have the call logs to prove no one called me until the hospital called me the next day. Her blood pressure was dangerously low and she had to endure multiple unpleasant procedures and a blood transfusion to stabilize. She suffered in the hospital from Thanksgiving through the beginning of the year. There is no telling what was done to her and this all happened in less than 45 days in this place. Also, they did NOT notify anyone in writing, as is required by California law, of their bed hold policy and gave away my mother's bed without a word, which in hindsight is probably a blessing. I'm sure it had to do with not wanting to deal with a family member (me) that was calling them out on their constant neglect, maltreatment and incompetence. They would have just kept all her things also if I hadn't said something, and I haven't been able to pick them up yet due to being sick. After reading other reviews I'm expecting to find several items "missing" even though I turned in all the inventory sheets and made copies. I don't know how the people that run this place sleep at night. They are currently being investigated by the California Department of Public Health as of 2025. Don't place your family member here if you want them to be safe and cared for. Some of the management here, and you know who you are, have a special place in hell waiting for them. I hope they never get a peaceful nights rest again, just like my mom hasn't since being one of their victims. read more

This place let my mother die without hospice and had no idea she was dying. I called repeatedly crying for them to get a doctor or anyone to help her. When they finally checked on her she they called 911 as she was about to pass. When she showed up in ICU they were horrified at the condition they left her in. I barely got there in time to say goodbye. I'm haunted by this still after 9 months. They stole her jewelry before I could get there to get her belongings. They repeatedly stole her clothes. I had to sit in the administrators office until they finally paid for some of the missing clothes and complained that it was coming out of their own pockets. I hate this place. read more

I would like to commend the social service department, especially to Debra and her team. They always go above and beyond. She always makes time meeting with me every time I come and visit the facility. She is knowledgeable, collaborates, and provides the best resources to the patients upon discharge. It is truly remarkable to find a hardworking social service director nowadays that puts quality and compassion as her utmost priorities in her line of work, despite the heavy workload she and her team do. read more

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!! Virtually all care was inconsistent for the points below. PT and OT sessions were sometimes very brief. Also, the scheduling seemed haphazard. Staff did not seem to be empathetic to patients. Some of the staff were very attentive and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Most did not. Fake it! Maintenance had terrible response. I must have asked 10-15 times to correct the following. TV remote did not work properly. roommate's sometimes controlled my TV. Also, door to bathroom stuck on floor. Someone came in and fiddled with it. Didn't fix it. Repair guy seemed over his head and did not communicate anything to me. I was disappointed he did not follow up on the problem. Both of these were problems during my entire stay and not fixed before I left Also, response to call button was wildly inconsistent. Some residents took to calling out loudly. Just more unneeded noise. One time I needed help to pee but they did not respond for over an hour. I was unable to hold it and peed in my pants. Their solution was to put me in a diaper which I resented and did not need. There was a poster that said response to call buttons was for everybody, but they did not seem to notice or care. Noisy. Wheeled items had wheels that made tons of noise. PA system was really loud. Staff often spoke loudly right outside your. Ice was dispensed in the hallway.... I could go on and but my advice would be to avoid this place if possible. read more

I was exposed to scabies today while visiting someone. There was no notice or warning about it on her door. I don't know if the staff is poorly trained or just don't care. Thankfully one of the staff told me about it too late so I won't be wondering how I got it. I mentioned no sign on the door and he told me there was a cart in front of the door. My mother was sent to this facility for physical therapy after a massive heart attack. She was there for 2 days and started to develop pneumonia. To be clear, I do not blame the facility for that, she'd had issues in the hospital and I think they discontinued antibiotics too quickly, but I do blame NVCC for what happened as she was getting sick. Her call button was ignored. They put her on oxygen, but not antibiotics. They left her in a wet diaper for hours. They did not call the doctor, despite the fact she was visibly deteriorating. She was struggling to breathe. Fortunately her friend, who is a nurse with 40 years of experience picked that day to visit and was able to advocate for her. Had my moms friend not been there to raise a fuss, I have to wonder how bad it could have gotten before they acted. My mom was finally sent to the emergency room to get the care she needed, but only because they were forced to. read more

Back few years ago I used to work for Napa valley care center as a housekeeper it didn't last long because the lack of language barrier I worked with all Mexican workers and they were being very mean towards me and when I tried to apply for work there again in 2018 the Administrator emailed me saying this "Hi Christine, It looks like you were a housekeeper for us less than a month. What happened back then? What makes you feel that you would be a better fit in Dietary?" I find that to be a little discriminated to why would you want to email someone who's trying to try again to work with this place I think you should give someone another chance to apply here again but it's okay I wanted to give this place no stars they are very dirty they don't care about their patients and all! Never send your loved ones here, service is terrible, PT people are in a hurry and don't take proper time with patients to help them recover! Push call button and takes minimum 30 minutes to check on you! They don't bother to even open room curtains for hours in the morning, ask for glass of water another 30 minutes! I spent one month at the Napa Vally Care Center recovering from a complete colostomy. The nurses and all the staff were absolutely wonderful! They were sensitive, humorous, and very good at their jobs. I felt like I was at a relative's home with a bunch of cousins and aunties who did all they could to help me get stronger. Tough love with lots of laughter. First, I want to thank Debra from Social Services who made me feel 100% safe and at ease. she saw that everything went smoothly. My physical therapist Janet made my sessions really fun even when it was painful, and my Occupational therapist Emily was also so very positive, helpful and engaging. I wish I could remember all the names of the amazing nurses! They are all great! I am particularly thankful for Ruthie who always made me smile and feel positive, and Joshua who is an absolute joy, so patient and understanding. An angelic nurse named Berta came in the night when I was often afraid and alone and calmed me with grace and soothing words. Thanks again to all those who were part of saving my life! Smelled like old stale feces every time I visited a post op friend there which was every day for two weeks. It saturated my clothes which I would change as soon as I got home. The ventilation was terrible, and the vents were full of dust. A staff did come by and vacuum them after a complaint was made. They didn't change his bandage or check the suture line until the day he was transferred to another facility. Nursing staff seem to want to deal as little as they can with patients in between med passes and putting out the meals. Nursing call bells are a joke as they are rarely answered in a timely manner if at all. An aide would come in, turn it off and say a nurse was on their way and no nurse would show up. One nurse said to not ask the aides to help the patient because the aides there are inexperienced and not well trained in doing nursing care. Instead I was instructed to try to get the therapists to help. The Physical and Occupational therapy teams were excellent, caring and got him able to walk again using the double bars. read more

Found out my right side paralyzed brother has scabs from all the cuts and bruising from him dinging his legs and feet. Couldn't notice them with cold weather clothes on, but now that summer is here, we're very surprised. My family tolerated him getting COVID, but not after realizing the STAFF brought it into the facility, then spread wildly. Uh...who has the training on sanitization? Who is wearing PPE? The staff. He could have died, alone and infected by health personnel who was supposed to be the health care standard. Since my family have realized the lower standard of care he receives, it's tough to find exemplary care with COVID still around. It's still BETTER than keeping him at home with untrained family, sleeping and eating in the first floor living room, and we're not strong enough to help him on and off the toilet. read more

She was neglected many times, calling for help and no one came. Sitting in a wet diaper for hours alone, left in her wheelchair alone for hours in excruciating pain! My wife Joan stayed a couple weeks here for post surgery care. Everyone from the nursing assistants to the facility director was caring and pleasant! They checked on my wife frequently and did their best to make her stay as pleasant as possible. Definitely recommended as the best rehab facility in Napa!!! read more

Unbelievable. My friend went to NVCC and her roommate had COVID which she got. They left her door open to the hall before she was transferred to COVID wing. They said she had to stay 10 days quarantine but never tested her to see if she was negative. Told people they couldn't visit her but I was absolutely able to. Horrible food. Totally clueless staff. Took off my PPE and was told to put it in a regular garbage can. Doctor didn't order her PT and doesn't come in over the weekend They only COVID test once a week so she was stuck. The saddest place I have ever seen. read more

We get progress updates, and we know that his rehabilitation is progressing better than we expected! Speech therapist Becky has been outstanding. Calling regularly to share little things that are important to us. Not being able to visit him during covid is hard, and the staff goes above and beyond to ease our worry. Unfortunately my mom has had to be placed in a rehab/ care facility several times over the past 5 years. The last 10 months she has resided at Napa Valley Care Center. Today she was discharged and I honestly have mixed feelings about it because they have taken such amazing care of my mom. From the maintenance crew, cleaning staff, kitchen staff, Nicole at the front desk, Kimmy the social worker, Keisha in Activities, Sharon and other CNA's, Nurses like Jodi & Sherry - so many hard working, caring, and kind people that work there. It can be very difficult and sometimes scary to have loved ones end up in rehab and convalescent type facilities, but without a doubt Napa Valley Care Center is the place I would highly recommend if need be. read more

I've had 2 family members die here. This was the only place that was available to take my mom for rehab. 4 days in they tried to kill my mom. Thank God I was there to stop them. Nurse has bad attitude and was pissed I insisted they send my mom to the hospital who was turning blue in the finger tips/ nails and pail white in the face. Wanted to give meds with major drug interactions. The doctor never came to assess my mom. She was there for aggressive PT and got 15 mins of PT a day and a bed sore. Horrible! read more

I have no luck getting through to anyone at the nurses station. I get put on hold until it rings back to receptionist. She can doing nothing, no message, no call backs, nothing. Couldn't even get through to business office. I'm told there is no other way to speak with nurse unless you keep trying. I've been for 3 days. It's very important I speak with someone. My Dad has pneumonia, and he is being taken to exercise. He called me very out of breath for obvious reasons. I need to speak to someone about this. Can't even find an email to write to. I've also been waiting for a call back from business office. I went there yesterday but no one there. They said she may have been at lunch. If anyone has any tips on how to reach a nurse please let me know. Unfortunately I cannot get there until next week. I'm two hours away. I'll try to get a family member there. I had my mother in Napa care center and she received terrible care. The nurses were to busy to check on her, they just gave her her meds and that's all. She had lost 10 pounds and the dietitian didn't see her for over a week and when I told her how much weight she lost she told me that she weighed an incorrect amount. They had the wrong weight listed. When she was released she was very weak and no nurse looked at her before she left, they just released her. The nurse at her home said she never should have been released. I have since contacted a senior advocate and she told me that there are several law suits pending right now against Napa Care. I made this review to help others and wish I had known this. Thank you. Update: When I took my mother home she suddenly passed away in only 4 days after l left Napa Care. The nurse never looked at my mother before she left. I noticed she was very weak. She never should have been released. read more

My grandma is here and she LOVES the staff. She especially loves it when the male nurses help her with her daily rituals. Not kidding at all..... NVCC stole my mothers wheelchair and never replaced it after several attempts. Dr. Lippmann and Gina Dastrup (Kaiser Reps) were useless and should not be in skilled nursing. They never answer the phone or return calls in an appropriate time frame. After about 10 calls about the wheelchair I gave up. Horrible care facility. The team at NVCC did a great job for my mother-in-law after she fell and broke her hip. Almost nobody wants to go to a nursing home, or send their loved ones there, but when that kind of care is necessary, NVCC is a good choice. The nurses and aids are very caring. Michael, the aid at our part of hall 3, was mama's absolute favorite, taking such gentle and competent care of her every day. The therapy staff was entirely outstanding, OT, PT, ST. Such skilled personalized assessment and work, such improvement. They really took the time to understand capabilities and needs. And the senior staff is new, eager to improve, takes time with residents and family, and seeks to understand needs very thoroughly. read more

This facility is located in the beautiful Napa valley. The staff is normally friendly and caring as the tenants here require a lot of attention and care. The management tries to keep this place clean and sanitized. I was only disappointed with the front desk receptionist when I asked for the wifi code and she didn't know. My dad stayed here for a few weeks after hip replacement surgery. I would not recommend this rehab facility as it is understaffed and patient safety is not a priority. Dad was first roomed with a patient who was known to be aggressive. They did not move dad until after he was physically attacked by the other patient. Then while in his new room, another patient who was suffering from dementia, continuously came into his room and took his things. The staff didn't think it was important. Otherwise, though the facility is old, it is clean enough. There is a sidewalk that goes around the entire building so patients can take a walk, and it is landscaped nicely. My mom was there for 3 weeks before She was readmitted to hospital in part because of the poor care she received at this facility. Nurses were nice. One of her big concerns was the lack of attention from a medical doctor. They said he would come by a when she was sleeping. Food is well below standard. She is diabetic and was served potatoes and pasta at almost every meal. Have nothing good to say about this facility. Mom refers to it as the house of hell. Happy to say she is home and doing fine after getting her back to hospital for real care. read more

After having my Dad in another facility before being moved to Napa I had no idea how bad it was at that facility. Napa is a really nice place. The staff is very caring and compassionate. The Dr on staff actually took the time to sit and chat with my father about his sickness and symptoms of his health issues. When you walk into this place it is by far a huge difference from other facilities. It has a pleasant, inviting atmosphere unlike some other facilities where the odor alone hits you in the face. I was able to finally rest easy that my Dad was getting the attention he needed to be able to recover and come home. In the event one of my parents require care I will definitely be going to Napa first. read more

This place is, I guess good overall? I had a bad experience with one specific CNA at this place. She didn't want to take care a patients need because SHE WAS TOO BUSY PICKING UP FOOD TRAYS. REALLY?? Yes, she used that as a valid excuse to not help us. She then went on to accuse us of telling another worker that we told the other worker that she didn't want to help us, WHEN WE NEVER SAID THAT. Just wanted to take a moment to thank the amazing staff at Napa Valley Care Center where my dad was for three weeks following a hip replacement. The facility is well run which is why most of the nurses have been at NVCC for years or decades. The aides often shared the same dedication and were often ambitious people working toward their nursing degrees. These are people who truly got into nursing to help others, and it shows. The physical therapists at the facility were top notch as well and literally helped my dad get back on his feet again. The one thing I did have to remind my dad was that meal times were VERY busy for the staff as they hustled to get everyone their hot meals and that if he needed something, he needed to press his call button either before or after the meal. Literally everyone we dealt with at NVCC from administrators to housekeeping was awesome. I hope you dont need a skilled nursing facility, but if you do, I can highly recommend NVCC. read more

We didn't know what to expect when my loved one had to go to a skilled nursing facility. Traz White was there to guide us along the way especially setting up our expectations and she helped us navigate what we had to do with insurance etc. She really put us at ease and made our family member understand and keep him comfortable especially during the shelter In place when it was tough to visit but she found ways for us to stay connected. The nurses and staff are so attentive and have wonderful bedside manner. It makes us feel comfortable knowing our family member is being cared for with compassion and most of all meeting all his medical needs. We could see our family member has improved and will be forever grateful. The facility is also high tech and staff makes it a point to answer our question with clear communication. I would recommend Napa Valley Care Center to anyone who needs to know that the staff is always helpful and they are the best! read more
