This hospital is a joke. The ER doctor was surly and rude. When I asked about embolism, the nurse snapped that those were in the brain until I said the abdominal ones. They didn't change me into a gown but instead left me splayed out naked on an ER bed with my bathrobe partly over me. They didn't give me a call button so I had to shout for help. They couldn't do an ultrasound on me because there was no one there who could do one so I went home with no diagnosis. This place has been a pit for years. Do not go there! read more

I had to bring my father into the ER recently after a fall. The nursing staff was horrible! The charge nurse was condescending, rude, and ignored our requests. Basic necessities were overlooked even when I asked for them. My father had to use the bedside commode and when I asked for toliet paper I was told they did not have any and they handed us a small wash cloth. My father was having diarrhea and the staff never once emptied the commode. The staff kept saying they were busy but they sat at the nurses station and gossiped and talked football. I heard all about their personal stories. We were in the hospital room for over 3 hours and not once did a nurse check in and ask if my father was doing ok or needed anything. I am a nurse and understand when things get busy but this is absolutely ridiculous. The staff was not too busy to sit around and gossip but they were too busy to do their job. I will never recommend this hospital to anyone. And to the Charge nurse who sat at her desk and played with her Barbie doll that sat at her computer for the three hours we were here, shame on you. I think you need to find a new profession because nursing is not it. read more

The docs in the ER diagnosed cystitis (last night) and provided an antibiotic to take twice daily and a pain med to take for pain which is level 10 still tonite. I have developed new symptom tonite so I called the ER hoping they could tell me if a burning sensation over the bladder Is usual. The nurse rudely told me the doctor (without even asking him) would not talk to me. possibly the worst I have heard of in my 50 year career in medicine. I received physical therapy a couple years and they convinced me to come back for a few appointments that I wouldn't have done if they hadn't told me that they called my insurance company and that I would only owe a $35 co-pay. Then I got a bill for $520. I have voicemails from the PT manager admitting that it is contrary to what they told me and that it was billed wrong. They disappeared and then came back and told me two years later that it was in collections. The PT manager still admits that it was wrong and blames it on their billing department. The hospital billing department gave me attitude and basically told me they didn't care and that I either needed to pay it or deal with collections. So, now I'm writing a check for something that I don't owe. It feels like theft. I wouldn't trust the hospital billing. You might get a surprise bill like I did. read more

Inept and caused the death of my 49 year old fiancé, emergency room is good but don't go upstairs, rep from the hospital called after I posted review because of how it would affect them, but no bed side manner at hospital and definitely covering their ass especially how they labeled the death certificate. Mind you she went in for a routine hysterectomy. Oh and they were trying so hard to transfer her out after it was to late because they're death numbers are hideous. read more

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. Hands-down. The people at the front desk just do not care. I have Covid. I have an auto immune disease and asthma, so I'm considered "high-risk". My doctor at Sutter put me on paxlovid which I felt was helping me. Then this morning I had major lightheadedness and difficulty breathing. I called the nurse on call at Sutter, who asked me some questions and then advised me to go to the nearest ER, which unfortunately was this dump. I came in with a mask on even though it was hard to breathe. I told them I had Covid and I couldn't breathe and I felt like I was going to pass out and that my doctor at Sutter told me to go to the ER. I asked for them to bring me some oxygen again reiterating that I came here because I can't breathe, and I need help. I sat at a nearby table with my head down. I took my mask off. I was trying to breathe. The lady demanded in a very rude way that I put on my mask. I told her that I couldn't breathe, and I came in there to get help with breathing, and I was afraid wearing my mask was going to make it harder. There was nobody in the room. The nurse was behind a glass. Who was I going to give Covid to? They refused, became argumentative, I stood up to leave in a very dizzy state and fell. I am pretty sure that I broke my left rib. They finally came and put me in a wheelchair and put me in a room and then hooked me up to a bunch of stuff and left me there for well over an hour. I told them that I was in a lot of pain and I thought I broke my rib, but they never sent anyone, they never offered me anything like Tylenol, they never put me on oxygen. They told me that my oxygen was fine, and I must've had a panic attack. I finally got up and left because I wasn't getting any medical attention. And if the nurses had a clue and ASKED questions, they would be aware that shortness of breath and severe dizziness is a well known side effect of Paxlovid, the antiviral I had been on for COVID instead of dismissing it as a "panic attack". Incidentally, I had a similar experience at this hospital off about five years ago. Where I came in with issues, and I basically sat in a room for two hours, and nobody came. I went to this hospital for help out of desperation, and instead I was shamed for not wearing a mask. I am vaccinated. Throughout the pandemic, I always wore a mask. The problem here is, I couldn't breathe and wearing a mask would've made it even more difficult to breathe. Kind of defeats the purpose of going to the ER. Many of these people have no business working in healthcare. They completely lacked compassion and treated me like I was crazy or there was something wrong with me. Had I gotten the attention that I expected to get when I walked into the ER, I would not have what I am pretty certain is a broken left rib. I am worse off now than I was when I walked in. This is what healthcare looks like a Sonoma Valley hospital. My advice to you is stay away. read more

My healthcare is managed by Stanford but I'm currently living in the outskirts of Santa Rosa during my surgery recovery. My doc sent me to the ER after a video appt and bc Stanford is so far away, Yelp reviews indicated that Sonoma Valley was my "best" option (which means nothing really bc there isn't a single hospital in my vicinity that exceeds a 3 star rating- is that scary or is that pathetic? I think both). Bc of my symptoms I was brought immediately back and set up on a narrow gurney. I was triaged and seen by the doc immediately. I was jaundiced so he took labs and gave me IV fluids. I just had spine surgery and my immediate concern after bloodwork should have been to ensure I was comfortable. When I asked my RN for extra pillows for head support he told me that he didn't think that they could give me any bc there was one per bed (mind you- it was not a full house that afternoon). I was lucky to score one extra but he didn't seem to care about adjusting back rest, etc. So after an hour of waiting for labs, the RN comes back and says things looks good and offers me food. He returns and literally throws a tray of food at me. He doesn't attempt to pull the tray to me or even sit up my bed so that I'm comfortable. Then I push button to ask to use bathroom. He rushes in, pulls blood pressure cuff off and leaves abruptly. Leaving me attached to IV still. When I call him back again, he said that he didn't even know it was still on bc he thought it was supposed to be discharged. It's not a good thing when the ER is slow, and the RN assigned to you isn't even aware of what TX his patient is/isn't receiving. Shift change must've been happening bc I had another male RN come in with my d/c paperwork. He was super nice. And good looking too. Wish he could've been my RN the entire visit haha read more

If you wanna die, head on over to Sonoma ER. Totally unqualified. Criminal behavior. Filthy facility. I was there twice between October and December for incredible chest pain, breathing issues, and really out of control tremors on my right side. I knew it wasn't anxiety. I told both docs both times it wasn't, neither one of them listened of course. I thought it was maybe long haul covid, but was unsure. Also, it was filthy both times I was there. It turns out my g.p. in Sonoma has grossly mismanaged my thyroid medication and I'm overly medicated. I found this out when my partner drove me to UCSF ER recently because I refused to go back to Sonoma Valley ER. They did simple blood tests and looked me up and down and figured it out. Thyroid problems are easy to diagnosis - if you know what you're doing. And Sonoma ER docs have NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING. UCSF was right. I stopped the meds and am getting a new doc. The symptoms are subsiding fast. I told a therapist about both visits and she was shocked I wasn't given a psych eval if the docs thought it was a psychiatric problem. Apparently a psych eval is standard at an E.R. for patients coming in with mental/emotional issues. I didn't have a psych issue as it turned out, but it's very clear they certainly won't treat you for a psychiatric or physical problem. I contacted the hospital as per their response to my google review. They said they'd look into it and haven't written back. They have no intention of bettering the ER. read more

My mom was admitted to Sonoma Valley on 8/11/23 with all the symptoms of a heart attack (which she was having). When we arrived at the hospital 5 1/2 hours later, she had not been treated at all, no aspirin, nitroglycerin, NOTHING! When I asked the doctor what was going on, he looked alarmed and said that he had ordered the aspirin. We ran out to our car and brought in baby aspirin for our mom and promptly checked her out of the hospital. The care she received (or rather didn't receive) was egregious. Do not bring your loved ones here if you want them to be cared for. I wouldn't even give one star if I could post this review without it. read more

The new head doctor is cocky and has a poor bedside manner and it's a dreary and vacant feeling place. If you can get yourself to an ER anywhere besides here... Santa Rosa or Marin, do it!!! This review is for the scheduling department for Medical Imaging, at the 707-935-5020 number (CT, MRI, Ultrasound). I left two messages over two days last week to book a somewhat urgent imaging appointment prescribed by my doctor. Nobody has called me back. I know hospitals are busy, and there's the added stress of Covid, but you can't even make an imaging appointment now? How hard would it be to incorporate online scheduling, like other places do? Their answering machine says they respond within 24 hours, but good luck. Been waiting 4 days after two calls, nothing. Had to drive an hour away to get the imaging done elsewhere. It's crazy to me how ridiculously behind these local Sonoma area health providers are with things like online scheduling and intake. read more

My procedure was a couple hours long and he did everything he could to keep me calm help me get through it very professional very helpful as to what I needed to do to make this procedure I was getting the MRI Go quicker and be more comfortable. read more

I was here at 11:34:09am it is now close to 1:22pm for a head injury that could be brain bruising or mild concussion. The first time I was triaged turns out they had forgotten to submit the paperwork for an hour and a half then told me this after I mentioned the pain getting worse they even stated at 12:11pm they would try to find me a bed. Currently still waiting to even be seen by an actual doctor. Please be aware if you want priority service might as well call an ambulance or you won't be seen for probably 3 hours while you suffer in the waiting room like me read more

20 years of treating our family has been a pleasure. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff of nurses and doctors. I would have loved to given 5 stars but two terrible experiences with Dr. Ako Walther Knocked off two stars. I felt safe until she "evaluated me". The same thing happened to my wife 7 months later (we came to the conclusion that Walther enjoyed giving bad news). But once she's out of the picture.......5 stars for Sonoma Valley Hospital! Dr. D Jasper Schmidt at Sonoma Valley Hospital Emergency Room was terrific, very knowledgeable, sensitive and very informative. I was very impressed with the questions he asked and how quickly he came to the diagnosis of why I had so much pain. I had already seen several physicians before going to the SVHER with no pain relief except with pain pills until I was examined by Dr. Schmidt. Sonoma Valley Hospital and specifically Dr. Moser in the Emergency Department make it hard for me to even select a one star rating - if there was a zero I would us it. My daughter was in Sonoma at a business event when her ovaries contorted. Dr. Moser had no idea what was going on and more than that let my daughter scream in pain for 4 hours. He would not speak to us other than to say "he was busy with the whole ED" and have the nurses do what little they could. The nurses lacked any bedside manner or care for someone who was truly suffering (thanks Amanda). I think Dr. Moser saw her as a 26 year old who wanted pain meds?!?! This was so far from the reality.I have never seen a doctor this rude, ignorant and dismissive. My daughter has had 5 previous surgeries and has a specialist at UCSF for these issues. He wasn't willing to get the phone with UCSF although they made numerous attempts to reach him and waited on the phone for him over 30 minutes at a time. Finally they got in contract with him and she was airlifted to UCSF where she had an emergency surgery. It was a horrific event at Sonoma Valley Hospital. If you have an emergency... go to another hospital. Dr. Moser was awful. Once she arrived at UCSF she experienced the most amazing care from everyone! I read more

I went here for a CT scan of my neck. I had swelling and had been to 4 doctors, and the CT scan said there was nothing. Fortunately,I did not believe them. I went to a specialized dentist and they did a xray where you stand, and they found a root canal had broken off into my jaw. They also told me that this should have shown up on the CT scan. I was really upset about paying for this expensive test, and it had been done wrong. I went to the hospital to complain, and so far no one in the office cared or called me back.( left my number) I would not trust their imaging department. After being contacted by the hospital(twice) I told them that I did not think that I should have to pay for a CT scan that was read wrong and I had to go get another imaging when I believed that it was done wrong. She actually agreed with me.BUT just got the bill for the scan and a separate bill to read it. . So much for standing by their word. I did find out that you can get a CD of your imaging (you have to request it) and you can take it to your doctor to be read. That is what I did and all future xrays Or CT scan My doctor at UTSF doesn't trust their imaging reading company(it doesn't happen at the hospital) She gets UCSF guy to read it. Bottom line DO NOT TRUST THEM. read more

I was visiting from out of town and suspected I was coming down with shingles. Since I was visiting a family that had small children I wanted to know for sure. I discovered there was not a clinic that would see me nor a single doctor in town. Very friendly Sonoma (not) Finally, with no other options, went to the ER. I didn't have proof of insurance with me at the time so I said I would pay cash. They had me pay $200 and said they would refund any left over. I then got a bill for $2147.00 with an additional bill for the doctor @ $369. I have asked for and never received some sort of itemization on how they could possibly charge that much for me to be in a room for 10 min and have a doctor take one look and confirm what I already knew. Don't even get me started on the eye roll I got from the doctor when I told him I was using essential oils to treat myself so far. Plus he gave me inaccurate info on the contagiousness. read more

My husband was directed to come here for a work man's comp injury. I really wish we could have gone somewhere....ANYWHERE else. We've been here for over 3 hours and have only been back for an X ray at this point. How difficult is it to look at the Damn thing and determine if a cast or splint is needed???! There is absolutely NO sense of urgency around here and the staff at the receptionist desk are chit chatting and reading books! This is absurd. I'm tired and beyond irritated. I have always had the best service at Sonoma Valley Hospital. I gave birth to my daughter, which ended up being an emergency c-section in the middle of the night and the staff was amazing. My daughter ended up having to be transferred to another hospital and the doctors and nursing staff were so fantastic on keeping me updated, calm, and informed. My daughter has since visited the ER numerous times for stitches, high fevers, sprains, etc and the ER staff has always been amazing. They are so good with children and freaked out parents as well!! Even when I go to get blood work done at the hospital, the staff is friendly, quick, and attentive. I am so glad that we were able to keep our hospital in Sonoma and the new ER is awesome! read more

Worst hospital. Had a hip surgery that was done incorrectly, had to be re-done. Was told by Dr. Streeter the hospitalist that I was the sort of person bad things happen to. I was not offered a bath/shower/shampoo for the first 10 days of my stay. Had day shift nurses come in and yell at me for not walking although I told them I could feel my femur sliding on my back. Turns out I was right, it was out of the socket and touching my back. The two night nurses WERE great. There was an ugly sign on the room wall exhorting me to pray. read more

I have had two surgeries and multiple visits to the emergency room here (both as patient and concerned family member). My surgical experiences - a grade 3 A-C separation repair and a broken wrist - were both straightforward and completely uneventful which is exactly what one wants. I was treated well, never felt neglected, had no complications and experienced a smooth recovery. The results of both operations were excellent and the P/T afterwards met all my needs though sometimes it was hard to get on the schedule. The emergency room visits have generally been due to some trauma (e.g. bicycle accidents, falling off horses, twisted ankle, etc.). I've seldom had to wait very long to be seen by a nurse or doctor. In one case I spent much of the night waiting for final resolution of my minor injury but given they were dealing with 3 other people experiencing life-threatening situations during a shift change, my minor injury could easily wait. In fact, that's exactly the kind of triage I want to see from my ER. Until now, the ER has not been nicest of facilities but I recently got to tour the new addition which will include a state-of-the-art ER and surgical wing. It's a giant step forward and long overdue - huge thanks to the benefactors who donated to make that possible. The hospital is an under-appreciated treasure in our community and I'm very thankful to have it and appreciate the efforts I'm seeing to make it even better. I sleep better knowing that quality healthcare is just a couple of minute away. read more
