I recall someone giving me a phone number to call which put me in touch with Yosef who responded within 24 hours and got it back on its track while replacing the opener with a new Chamberlain model with a belt drive and replaced the spring for my lightweight door. I happily paid Joe and put him in my phone's contact list. Time passes, the remaining original parts of my garage door as do I. We both move less smoothly and the door now makes enough noise when operating to drown out the imagined creaking sounds I imagine my joints make. Bright sunlit days make the door finicky so while it always opens, sometimes I have to hold the button while it closes to the floor to ensure it does not simply stop, reverse direction and taunt me by opening again. In 2026 I put my house up for sale and realize nobody wants a finicky and noisy garage door so I decide to get quotes from two or three companies. The appointment with the first unnamed company results in my two- hour window wait without anyone showing up so I leave, About an hour later I get a call saying he's there waiting for me. He apologizes but he was running late. I tell him I get it that it's unpredictable as to how long a job may take but remind him that a phone call would have been nice. My time is valuable too, even though I'm retired. He offers to reschedule and I say don't bother. The second company's young guy who shows up on time and in about sixty seconds concludes myth opener needs a new motherboard while ignoring the excessive noise and jerkiness of its operation. He tells me I can't replace the motherboard alone and states I need an entirely new opener including a new drive assembly and a new spring for $1250. Guy's a genius! Doesn't need to inspect anything besides a cursory look to see how old the Chamberlain opener from 2016 is. I ask for an estimate in writing that will give me both a labor and parts list cost, He doesn't really want to be bothered but says okay. I'm not getting good vibes. For my third quote, I go into my contact list and call Yosef. I get a machine and leave him a message hoping he is well and wondering if he is still in business. He is! His tech named Valav arrives and I dutifully run the door up and down. He then goes to the rails and looks at the roller bearings and shows me the clearly visible misalignment what 33 years of wear and one collapse off the rails has done, He checks the 2016 Chamberlin opener, the belt drive and the spring and declares they do not need repair or replacement. He further checks the steel strand cable on each side of the door which bears the weight of the door as it it wound around a small drum which raised the door. He suggests replacing them as rust is prevalent, will continue to consume the steel strands until they give way. It all makes sense to me and I can see it. I ask what this will cost prepared to blink. I do blink! He quotes $449.70 for everything including the knowledge I gained about my garage door. The moral of the too long tale is that Yosef's Amby Garage Door Service is more than fair with their pricing, aren't trying to sell you something you don't need, will take the time to properly diagnose your problem and help you understand the importance and role of the components comprising a garage door and opener system.
