I checked in within 5 minutes of my booked time. I was sat at the shampoo bowl and nobody came over to me for 45 minutes. 2 other customers came in after me and were serviced. When inquired where my stylist was, she came right over and said the person who checked me in didn't tell her I was here. However, there were over 10 employees in the building and no one checked to see why I had been sitting for so long. Poor customer service. I loved every moment of my appointment at Nappstar! Josh expertly washed my hair and almost made me fall asleep. Keisha was my stylist and she was so kind and considerate, she made me feel like I knew her already, which is just to say that I felt very comfortable and welcomed. The whole experience was just a breath of fresh air! Wow. I cannot recommend them enough. They respected my time, respected the fact that I hate sitting under the dryer, asked me my preference on my experience, offered me water, interviewed me in the chair to go over what I was being charged for (that part could be more discreet but no biggie) and just checked in with me every step of the way so there were no surprises for anyone of us. NappStar has very streamlined processes in place - ranging from the appointment booking, to the client consult. I feel that many salons are missing these critical elements of customer service. I love the products. I've bought a few for my "home salon" particularly the hair oils. They smell soooooooo good. I haven't been to Nappstar much because of the pricing. But every time I came it was a great experience with awesome customer service and a streamlined checkout process. I showed my stylist a picture and ask if she could do it. But once she started styling I noticed it didn't look the way I wanted. She told me it was because of my hair being different from the woman in the picture. I said ok so she could take it down after trying to adjust it and not liking the result. Because I adjusted my hair twice there was a $20 fee for each "takedown". By takedown I mean her taking rubber bands in and out of half the petal bun I let her do. They said this was for her effort. They also tried to still charge me $50 for a style because I told her to just leave my straight hair parted in the two ponytails so I could curl it at home. Obviously I wasn't going for that and a manager took off both. The policies for these hair stylist are getting ridiculous. It's like they don't remember being a customer themselves. I really hope it changes. Thinking about becoming a stylist myself just to level the playing field. read more

Nappstar is the only place i've been for my locs. My starter appointment and retwists. Today may be my last day here. I made an appointment for a specific time. The morning of they called me and asked me to come early, I couldn't come as early as they wanted me to but I did get here earlier. When I was 5 min away, I was called and told that they'd be servicing me 5-10min after my original appointment time... ?? I always book for a specific person and twice, now, they have put me with a stylist I did not book for. I even put in the comments of my appointment that I did not want anyone else to do my hair if it was not the original person I booked. It's annoying because when someone books a hair appointment for a certain time, they need it done at that time. It's like they trap you here and then throw the bs at you. Back to the time, that 10-15 min wait has turned into 1.5 hours and I'm being given a stylist i've never seen and definitely didn't book with. I'm so annoyed. Now it's "here are the options, you can wait 20 min or we can rebook your appointment". I'm so annoyed and I won't be back in here. Nappstar is not a cheap salon and I come here for the experience and the talent. My day has been pushed back significantly and this is so inconsiderate. Not to mention the overall vibe in here. It's passive aggressive and too much. Social media makes you feel like you're coming into a vibrant "movie" like vibe. It's clear that everyone that works here is on egg shells and hates it here. I need reliability and punctuality. I can't have a new stylist everytime I get a retwist. I don't want all these diff hands in my head. Jesus I'm so annoyed. There were a few glitches, would not do the part style I wanted and did not have the correct color hair. But it is a month later with my love extension stud and I am happy. NappStar Atl is an amazing, high vibrational business. As a black woman business owner myself, I'm so proud of these women! The energy in the salon is light, airy and super relaxing. There was plenty of afrobeat in the music selection which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was refreshing to see the owners actively engaged and so hands-on in the salon, literally jumping in wherever needed. It was clear that they take great pride in their work. Booking was easy and professional. When I had an emergency I was given major grace with rescheduling. It was refreshing to be treated with so much understanding. My loctician/stylist was Morgan and she was truly excellent. She had amazing energy and was a pro at her work. I enjoyed that the salon uses their own original products, and offer a variety of scents/oils to make my locs look and feel luxurious. The only area of concern and possible dealbreaker for me was the up-charges. I was up-charged $50 and when I asked why, I was told it was because the loctician would have to separate and detangle? my hair as they go. Separating and untangling locs, for me, is a basic part of retwisting. I do have moderately thick hair, but it's been no more than 8 weeks since my last retwist and since their rates (compared with other locticians/salons in Atlanta) are already premium, it feels pretty unsustainable. There's also an up charge if you have more than 120 locs (I have 118). This was a great experience otherwise and I recommended this salon to friends, but knowing that I can have my hair retwisted and styled for much less at most loc salons in Atlanta, it's hard to say if I would return. read more

Came in because I took my starter locs down that I got done at another salon for $250. I came here to get them done in a bigger size and they wanted to charge me another $250 on top of the $250 I had already paid before the service. I'm not paying $500 for some fucking twists just because my hair is shoulder length. Fucking waste of time and money. Now I'm leaving without my hair being done. Thanks for nothing. What's funny is that the stylist Quala came over before I sat down and whispered "did they tell you it would be an up charge?" This salon took a great deal of care and detail to my locs, and though I had a stylist, I felt like this salon worked on my locs as a team to make sure I had the best retwist possible. Speaking of the salon alone, it's extremely trendy, CLEAN and beautiful inside! It's a whole vibe on its own. I felt very comfortable and well taken care of by the friendly staff. I don't mind spending extra to get my hair done here because it's worth the experience, customer service and quality work. --2022 UPDATE-- I really love this salon but there are some things that have kept me from rebooking as much as I used to. Great overall service, the owners have an amazing business model for professionalism and treatment of clients but something is going on internally where they have a very high turnover rate. They hire talented and amazing stylist that you get attached to and want to continue doing your hair but they seem to only stay for a couple of months or less. Locs are very sacred to a lot of us customers and having new hands in our heads isn't as comfortable for a lot of us. The high turnover rate is also affecting the overall atmosphere. IG makes it look like a big happy family but as a comment above described it, it looks like the stylist are walking on egg shells or like something is just off.. I'm sure anyone can agree after getting attached to a stylist, nail tech, barber ect. after awhile they are the main reason you return more than the salon itself read more
