We ordered through Skip the Dishes and the food was wonderful! It arrived hot and fresh. The tonkatsu and udon combo was lots of food for one person, the udon was in a soup and tasty. This was a good value. The curry tonkatsu was okay, the tenderloin was crispy and juicy on the inside which was great and very enjoyable. The curry sauce came in a little container but nothing special since it didn't have a kick or much flavour so a little disappointed. The sauce was better on the plain rice than on the meat. The miso soup was basic but good enough to help wash everything down! The spicy bibimbap looked delicious, the beef was good and you get a nice helping of vegetables. My daughter enjoyed it very much. The restaurant threw in a free cinnamon croffle for any order over $35. That was a nice bonus but I don't think I would order it. We should have added our own fruit and whipped cream to it to liven it up. We would definitely order from here again and maybe try the chicken but we really liked the tonkatsu! read more

I found Nara Chicken & Tonkatsu while browsing through places in the area a while back. I had a pretty good experience. The decor and service were just average. However, their food, namely tonkatsu and fried chicken are both worth trying. The tonkatsu stood out the most as it was crispy and tender. The chicken was quite crispy as well but there wasn't enough flavour (especially for the original), so I'd give them 8.3/10 read more

I'm so happy I discovered this place. Cheese tonkatsu is hard to find in Edmonton and this place makes them really well. They recently added the Cheese Tonkatsu to their menu back in February and it was delicious (not to be confused with their Pizza Tonkatsu that also has cheese). The outside was fried crispy and flakey and the inside was filled with warm oozing cheese. It came with salad with a yummy sesame dressing and rice. I also tried their soy garlic wings which was juicy and seasoned nicely. Definitely recommend ordering this as well! My partner ordered the curry tonkatsu and he also really enjoyed it. The curry was provided in an extra container so the meal wouldn't get soggy since we ordered takeout. Ordering was very easy. Just go to their website and directly order from their site. We ordered from here and the food arrived pretty quickly so the temperature was warm. We decided to get the family pack which was a whole fried chicken, fries, and a 2 L pop. My husband also decided he would like poutine and I warned him that I wasn't sure how it would taste coming from this restaurant. But he decided to add it to our order. The family pack came in a box and the poutine and a rectangular take out box. The box was taped so that was good that the chicken and fries won't fall out in transit. When I open the box the chicken looked good and the skin look nice and crispy but I could barely see any french fries. For a family pack I was expecting more than about 20 fries. The poutine was even more pathetic for the price paid. There was not a lot of fries and the gravy was likely from the can. Would definitely not order this again. The star is the chicken. The skin was crispy, and not greasy. It didn't come with any sauce but still flavourful and moist chicken. We didn't finish the chicken and heated up the next day it was still moist and tasty. Maybe if we are in the area we might stop in for chicken or try something else on the menu that aren't fries! read more

Guys, guys, guys. Can you believe it? A Korean place opened on the west end! Mind blowing. It's located right beside Empanada Convenience Store (never heard of it before, apparently its Filipino; not what I was expecting) but the better landmark is the nearby McDicks. We came on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Only a table or two were occupied. Pretty surprised. This place should be packed for lunch. The lady working the front was so sweet. Great service and she even thanked us/said she hoped to see us again. Menu is split into appetizers, KFC, tonkatsu and hansik. - Banchan and miso soup - pretty standard fare. Came with the tonkatsu. - Nara pizza tonkatsu ($15.99) - deep fried pork sirloin with cheese and their special sauce, pickled cabbage and rice. The pizza name is an odd translation but don't let that deter you. The cheese and deep fried pork was a perfect combination. Crispy, tender and not greasy at all. - Nara seasoned chicken ($14.99 half) - KFC with Nara's special sauce. Pretty sure it was a sweet gochujang sauce. Nicely battered and crispy. Great to see Korean finally making its way to the west end. Will be back for more. Very, very soon. read more

This is my go-to place for katsu. Best place in the city. I've also tried their buns with stuff inside(red bean, curry, bulgogi) and they are worth it to even take home for a snack. They have these little walnut stuffed snack things that are also delicious. Their curry sauce is delicious and goes perfectly with their katsu. So I finally able to go back and try the fried chicken (Nara Seasoned Chicken that comes with special sauce, the sweet and spicy kind). It's decent. I really like the sauce which goes well with all the fried stuff, especially Tonkatsu. The chicken itself is nothing special, but for us, the portion is enough to be shared among 2 people. The cuts are pretty big. If you're a big eater then you probably will end up finishing the whole basket. We also ordered the Nara Special Tonkatsu that comes with both sirloin and tenderloin Tonkatsu + their special sauce (different from the sauce on the chicken). The portion is pretty big, and I think it meant to be shared or for a big eater. I did finish the whole thing by myself tho so it's not like it's impossible LOL If you've read my last review about the Nara Pizza Tonkatsu (still dreaming about that cheese) you know how much I love their Tonkatsu. It's so soft inside and crispy on the outside. I finally figure out the secret of the crispness, they use real bread to make the crumbs which is surprising since I couldn't really taste bread. As for the special sauce, I know I won't like it once the staff mentioned that it was a mixture of garlic, soy sauce, apple, and BANANA! The banana flavour is way too strong for me. I could only taste banana. So I ordered the curry sauce on the side which complemented the Tonkatsu very well. Honestly, I won't be able to choose between the curry sauce or the sweet & spicy sauce. I probably will always end up ordering both everytime. If you decide to come and try this place, definitely go for the Tonkatsu. Legit the best Tonkatsu I've ever eaten! read more

I strongly advise to come with an empty stomach because you will want to try everything they got. I only had the opportunity to graze their menu with their savoury soy garlic chicken wings, which no joke were so good I could smell colors, but will definitely come back to try their other dishes. If you've ever used yelp, you can only rate in multiples of 1 for the reviewers there have rated this place as a 4 or 5, which is fucking ridiculous because this place ain't that good. Miso soup was, miso soup...simple, warm, nothing special. The spicy chicken here was crispy enough to qualify as korean fried chicken but the sauce here was so fucking sticky that you'd tear your napkin just cleaning off your fingers. I felt like my fingers were trapped by this sauce. Pizza Tonkatsu was not bad. Just had cheese inside the breading of this deep fried pork dish. Breading and cheese tasted pretty good but the pork wasn't that great, mediocre at best. Dumplings followed suit with all the other dishes, Flavor was just ok. Located on 87ave and 150st, this place was just proof of how bad yelp reviews are. Service was really nice and friendly but overall just above average. They have some daily specials and would probably get a curry tonkatsu next time if I ever did come back here. Nara is half Korean and half Japanese, but fully so-so. I have never had Korean Fried Chicken before, and tried it for the first time here. I had the half fried chicken, the basic one with no sauce. So crispy on the outside, and so moist on the inside - I think I am a believer now! It also was not greasy or salty. My brother had the chicken katsu which was two breaded cutlets of chicken in a batter that was lighter than the friend chicken, with rice and a slaw. His meal started with a basic miso soup. Service was fast and friendly, and prices seem reasonable. There are a few other Korean items on the menu, like bi bim bap. However, chicken is the star here. I will be back. read more

My daughter brought some fried chicken home and it was quite tasty. Perfectly cooked, moist inside and nice crunch outside. The sauce was a nice touch, not too sweet and garnished with green onion and sesame seeds. I will definitely visit the shop and try some of there other offerings. Authentic Korean food. Ordered beef soy bibimbap , very light and yet flavorful. The soy sauce is way better then any Asian restaurant out there and ive been to many of them. GF ordered half seasoned fried chicken, as always Korean fried chicken is the way to go. Crispy, flavorful and juicy. The best part of today was the kimchi its a must try ! . Just had lunch at this place with my family for the first time. Had a half order of the Nara Original Fried Chicken, Sirloin Tonkatsu and BiBimBop. All three dishes were cooked well and flavourful. The fried chicken is crispy and the chicken is moist. The half order is six pieces. Will definately return one day soon and try out a few other things on the menu. The fried chicken is mouth watering and so juicy, the outer crust on the chicken has the most amazing flavour I even found myself picking up the little bits that had crumbled off onto my plate, just couldn't get enough of it was perfect. I've been here twice now and will no doubt be going back. It's a small restaurant/take out place .Inside there are maybe 8 tables with red/white checkered plastic tablecloths like those in an old italian restaurant. No atmosphere to speak of at all really . Walls are covered with pictures of the menu items. A couple of tv screens are above the cashier desk playing silent asian boy band/girl band videos . There are no condiments on the tables but they'll bring you hot sauce if you ask. I had the tonkatsu first time. Pork slices breaded and fried with a mound of white rice and some salad. It was fairly tasty. I had the miso soup as well which was small bowl and not hot and a bit bland. Next time i had the 1/2 spiced chicken and a bowl of ramen .Chicken was very nice .Large portion of breaded chicken pieces deep fried and slathered with a sauce that seemed to be a mild chile /corn syrup mixture . After craving some korean fried chicken, I came across this small restaurant in west edmonton! My friend and I tried out the soy garlic fried chicken and curry tonkatsu. I ordered the soy garlic chicken, which was recommended to me as "very tasty" by our server, and her words were right. It was excellent, definitely filled in that craving I was having! Then, I snuck a few pieces of curry tonkatsu from my friend's dish, and I was pleasantly surprised! I've never had tonkatsu before, so I wasn't quite certain on what to expect, but it definitely made a good first impression to me. Our two dishes came with sides of pickled radishes, vegetables, and miso soup. All were great additions and complimented the meal nicely, the two of us definitely cleaned our plates! My husband and I had a hankering for some delicious tonkatsu - upon some googling we found Nara chicken. Not only was Tonkatsu in their name, but they were located super close to home (finally). We were happy to find a clean restaurant with attentive staff with a simple menu! We ordered the tenderloin Katsu and the chicken katsu. Both were perfectly fried and delicious!!
