    a tray of food

We ordered through Skip the Dishes and the food was wonderful! It arrived hot and fresh. The tonkatsu and udon combo was lots of food for one person, the udon was in a soup and tasty. This was a good value. The curry tonkatsu was okay, the tenderloin was crispy and juicy on the inside which was great and very enjoyable. The curry sauce came in a little container but nothing special since it didn't have a kick or much flavour so a little disappointed. The sauce was better on the plain rice than on the meat. The miso soup was basic but good enough to help wash everything down! The spicy bibimbap looked delicious, the beef was good and you get a nice helping of vegetables. My daughter enjoyed it very much. The restaurant threw in a free cinnamon croffle for any order over $35. That was a nice bonus but I don't think I would order it. We should have added our own fruit and whipped cream to it to liven it up. We would definitely order from here again and maybe try the chicken but we really liked the tonkatsu!

    Family pack with few fries

We ordered from here and the food arrived pretty quickly so the temperature was warm. We decided to get the family pack which was a whole fried chicken, fries, and a 2 L pop. My husband also decided he would like poutine and I warned him that I wasn't sure how it would taste coming from this restaurant. But he decided to add it to our order. The family pack came in a box and the poutine and a rectangular take out box. The box was taped so that was good that the chicken and fries won't fall out in transit. When I open the box the chicken looked good and the skin look nice and crispy but I could barely see any french fries. For a family pack I was expecting more than about 20 fries. The poutine was even more pathetic for the price paid. There was not a lot of fries and the gravy was likely from the can. Would definitely not order this again. The star is the chicken. The skin was crispy, and not greasy. It didn't come with any sauce but still flavourful and moist chicken. We didn't finish the chicken and heated up the next day it was still moist and tasty. Maybe if we are in the area we might stop in for chicken or try something else on the menu that aren't fries!

Guys, guys, guys. Can you believe it? A Korean place opened on the west end! Mind blowing. It's located right beside Empanada Convenience Store (never heard of it before, apparently its Filipino; not what I was expecting) but the better landmark is the nearby McDicks. We came on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Only a table or two were occupied. Pretty surprised. This place should be packed for lunch. The lady working the front was so sweet. Great service and she even thanked us/said she hoped to see us again. Menu is split into appetizers, KFC, tonkatsu and hansik. - Banchan and miso soup - pretty standard fare. Came with the tonkatsu. - Nara pizza tonkatsu ($15.99) - deep fried pork sirloin with cheese and their special sauce, pickled cabbage and rice. The pizza name is an odd translation but don't let that deter you. The cheese and deep fried pork was a perfect combination. Crispy, tender and not greasy at all. - Nara seasoned chicken ($14.99 half) - KFC with Nara's special sauce. Pretty sure it was a sweet gochujang sauce. Nicely battered and crispy. Great to see Korean finally making its way to the west end. Will be back for more. Very, very soon.

So I finally able to go back and try the fried chicken (Nara Seasoned Chicken that comes with special sauce, the sweet and spicy kind). It's decent. I really like the sauce which goes well with all the fried stuff, especially Tonkatsu. The chicken itself is nothing special, but for us, the portion is enough to be shared among 2 people. The cuts are pretty big. If you're a big eater then you probably will end up finishing the whole basket. We also ordered the Nara Special Tonkatsu that comes with both sirloin and tenderloin Tonkatsu + their special sauce (different from the sauce on the chicken). The portion is pretty big, and I think it meant to be shared or for a big eater. I did finish the whole thing by myself tho so it's not like it's impossible LOL If you've read my last review about the Nara Pizza Tonkatsu (still dreaming about that cheese) you know how much I love their Tonkatsu. It's so soft inside and crispy on the outside. I finally figure out the secret of the crispness, they use real bread to make the crumbs which is surprising since I couldn't really taste bread. As for the special sauce, I know I won't like it once the staff mentioned that it was a mixture of garlic, soy sauce, apple, and BANANA! The banana flavour is way too strong for me. I could only taste banana. So I ordered the curry sauce on the side which complemented the Tonkatsu very well. Honestly, I won't be able to choose between the curry sauce or the sweet & spicy sauce. I probably will always end up ordering both everytime. If you decide to come and try this place, definitely go for the Tonkatsu. Legit the best Tonkatsu I've ever eaten!

Atmosphere is relaxed and minimalistic with a great chill vibe. Service is okay but I would say that all the times I have been there, the staff have not been super welcome or friendly. And this day was super busy, a Friday night and I don't think they had enough staff for the tables. Our dishes came by slowly which was fine because we were visiting with friends but don't expect to fly in and out. This is the one thing they can improve on. Luckily the food makes up for it. We ordered a bunch of things to share. The standout was the black cod with the miso marinade and the amazing selction of the Japonais Premium Select. A HUGE amount of rolls, sushi and sashimi. Definately worth the money if you are fine with the chef doing the choosing. Everything was super fresh. The only thing I think was just average was the tempura. It was no difference than the other places I have been to. Really worth making the reservation for, just keep in mind you may need to wait.

This is my second time to Sushi Toshi, the all-you-can-eat sushi (and other foods) Japanese…read morerestaurant. I have ordered sushi rolls, nagiri, sashimi, maki and a temaki (cone). I ordres an assortment of them - red snapper, tuna and salmon for the sushi, California and Alberta rolls, and tempura shrimp cone. This time around I ordered the beef tataki, stir fried udon with chicken, miso soup and the 6 oz steak (for this one, a hot stone is brought to your table and you sear the steak on it; sauce are also available for this dish). I had green tea to drink and had green tea ice cream for desert. Service was very good and rapid, and very attentive and polite. The restaurant's ambiance is busy and popular, but it's quite easy to relax and enjoy the food and restaurant while there.

And after our dinner, this place will be pretty difficult to beat. We came here for our anniversary dinner. My boyfriend put in a reservation earlier, and once we arrived we were seated pretty quickly. It was a Monday night but I was so surprised at how packed the place was. This was our first time here so the server explained how ordering on the slip works. Wait time wasn't terrible. And like I mentioned before, this place was so packed and full of people. All the servers that night were weaving through aisles, delivering food, and taking orders. They were all hustling. Food was delicious. We started off with a couple of rolls like California Rolls, Avocado, Tuna, Salmon, and Tamago. The sushi rolls were pretty small, but I didn't have a problem with it. Since it's AYCE, I knew that we'd have much more food coming. I was very impressed by the quality of fish. It tasted very fresh. Also we ordered the seared Beef Nigiri and that was delicious. We ended up ordering more of that later. For the next round, we ordered Edamame, Beef (? it was like a beef galbi cut but I forgot the name of it on the menu), Chicken Skewers, Green Onion Cake, and Tempura. For our Tempura veggies we chose pumpkin, yam, and eggplant. I loved the tempura. It was definitely a highlight of the night. The batter was very crispy, light, and all the tempura came out hot. It was wonderful. We ended up getting more after the first round of tempura because it was too good. The Chicken Skewers were phenomenal. My boyfriend and I were saying that if we had the Chicken Skewers with rice, that would just be enough. The flavor of the sauce was great: savory, slightly sweet, it was reminiscent of a teriyaki flavor for me. And lastly, we had the BC Roll, Alberta Roll, Crunchy Roll, Philadelphia Roll, the seared Beef Nigiri again, and a few other rolls. At this point of the dinner we barely had any steam left but somehow we managed. Every single we thing we ate was just amazing. I wasn't disappointed by anything we ordered actually it was just great. I will say the Crunchy Roll had this smokiness that scratched my brain in the best way possible and I was so impressed by that bite. This was such an unforgettable experience and the best place we've spent our anniversary haha. 10/10, take my money. To Sushi Toshi, I'll be thinking about you.

So this review is a bit late but thought I should still write it as my Dad (who only ever really…read moreenjoys eating steak and potatoes or sometimes a pizza) thought this was a good enough restaurant to return to. So what made it that great that my dad would give it such a high review? First, if you've never seen an advertisement for this place, prepare yourself for ongoing talking and some well rehearsed comedy from the chefs. There literally is a live cooking show being done with your meals right in front of you. This combination of humour and meal prep was a big hit for my family (the 5 of us were constantly commenting on how things were being cooked, what was new to us and encouraging the ongoing trials of the fork toss plus the salt and pepper tossing trick by the chef). Second, it might be a Japanese place but they have steak! You may have guessed with my intro but that was an important decision factor in choosing a restaurant. We wanted a different place for the early Christmas family gathering but something everyone could enjoy. Third, they're very diligent about respecting allergies. My sister-in-law gets very ill with her allergies. So it's nice not having to worry. They set her food specifically on one area of the grill and no other food was ever placed there. Hers was never combined with the rest of ours either. They also had a different soup for her to enjoy and did a vinaigrette on her salad instead of the house dressing. The food itself is a decent price for a fine dining experience and what you get with the dinner. There's soup, salad, grilled shrimp, grilled veggies and whatever you choose as your main. All with great flavour and you get two different dipping sauces - one being better for meat and other with vegetables. Obviously if you select the options of more seafood to accompany the main piece of the meal, the price is more expensive. We all kept it pretty simple. Two with shrimp dinners, two with New York steaks and one with teriyaki beef. We were all quite happy with our portions and if you feel you need extra rice, they will bring more out. If you have saved a bit of room, there's lots of dessert options too but that comes with an additional price. I really was quite happy with that large selection of mocktails to try but for those that want it, there's a large selection of mixed alcoholic drinks, wine, beer, etc. The place is accessible from the outside doors to the grill tables and even though my brother struggles to see in dim lighting, there's enough random lighting that we found a well lit spot at the table for him. I liked that I didn't have to watch for random levels or steps. There are a few booths throughout the restaurant for those that maybe want a more secluded meal but there's no grills for those spots. So after such a glowing review, why am I only giving it 4 stars? Well as I had booked ahead of time and specifically gave a number of 5 people for the reservation, it would have been nice to know we would not have anything started to be cooked, nor our meal order taken until they fill the rest of the table around the grill. If I had that information, I could have easily invited a couple of friends to join. However as this came to us as surprise, it meant even though we didn't know who was joining us, we were forced to awkwardly wait over 15 min to have them arrive and then start giving our order when they were ready. At least some of the drinks had made it out by then but the place was starting to fill up so the noise level was increasing. Luckily for us my mom randomly know the couple that was sat at our grill table but there were parts of the dinner you could tell they would have enjoyed having their own time as a couple (as I'm quite sure they weren't informed they'd be part of a bigger table being that they were surprised that my mom thanked them for arriving on time so we can now order when they are ready). It would have also been a different experience for my family too without the combined table situation. I had to remind the chef who's steak was being prepared due to the over eager guy wanting a well done steak the same time as a medium rare... Things eventually got served to everyone but only because I spoke up, I was able to get near to what I had requested (glad that my dad at least got his medium rare) even though everyone had reconfirmed orders when the chef was placing the meat on the grill. Lastly, the noise in the restaurant was so high at the end of our meal that not only did my dad stop trying to have a conversation but so did the rest of us. So instead of savouring dessert, I ate it quickly as all I wanted was to pay the bill fast and just leave the noise. I've gone once before on a week night back in April and it was more manageable for noise level. This being due to not all grills were full nor was the restaurant as full.

I didn't even know Sherwood Park has a Japanese Village and I hadn't been to one in about 15 years. We had 14 in our group but this wasn't an issue as we were all able to all sit around two grills with two grill cooks. Our server did a great job of taking our drink orders, filling up our water glasses and making sure we were happy. I personally started with a pint of their house beer and the Tuna Sashimi. Both were tasty. For my main course I had Teppan - Yaki Dinner (Teriyaki Chicken) It came with soup, salad and green tea. Our grill cook was a nice young man who brought a smile to our face and kept us chuckling. For the value, I was happy with my meal, the price I payed and the fun interacting with our cook. I would definitely go back with a group of friends.

There is a call button in the booth so that you can ring them anytime you need service. They also have the wifi password taped onto the wall in the both. The service was very prompt as soon as we pressed the button someone arrived within 1 minute. The staff was very kind and attentive. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Saturday night which was kind of nice. They have a pretty decent sized menu with a variety of options. I love how they have photos of each roll and list which rolls are fully cooked and which ones aren't. We ordered the sexy mexican roll, volcano roll, and the scallop extravaganza. All were delicious! The fish was very fresh as was the rice. Each roll was a good size and packed with flavour. The price was pretty on par with all sushi places.
