I'm so happy I discovered this place. Cheese tonkatsu is hard to find in Edmonton and this place makes them really well. They recently added the Cheese Tonkatsu to their menu back in February and it was delicious (not to be confused with their Pizza Tonkatsu that also has cheese). The outside was fried crispy and flakey and the inside was filled with warm oozing cheese. It came with salad with a yummy sesame dressing and rice. I also tried their soy garlic wings which was juicy and seasoned nicely. Definitely recommend ordering this as well! My partner ordered the curry tonkatsu and he also really enjoyed it. The curry was provided in an extra container so the meal wouldn't get soggy since we ordered takeout. Ordering was very easy. Just go to their website and directly order from their site. This place may look like a hole in the wall restaurant but the food is worth trying!

    Family pack with few fries

We ordered from here and the food arrived pretty quickly so the temperature was warm. We decided to get the family pack which was a whole fried chicken, fries, and a 2 L pop. My husband also decided he would like poutine and I warned him that I wasn't sure how it would taste coming from this restaurant. But he decided to add it to our order. The family pack came in a box and the poutine and a rectangular take out box. The box was taped so that was good that the chicken and fries won't fall out in transit. When I open the box the chicken looked good and the skin look nice and crispy but I could barely see any french fries. For a family pack I was expecting more than about 20 fries. The poutine was even more pathetic for the price paid. There was not a lot of fries and the gravy was likely from the can. Would definitely not order this again. The star is the chicken. The skin was crispy, and not greasy. It didn't come with any sauce but still flavourful and moist chicken. We didn't finish the chicken and heated up the next day it was still moist and tasty. Maybe if we are in the area we might stop in for chicken or try something else on the menu that aren't fries!

Guys, guys, guys. Can you believe it? A Korean place opened on the west end! Mind blowing. It's located right beside Empanada Convenience Store (never heard of it before, apparently its Filipino; not what I was expecting) but the better landmark is the nearby McDicks. We came on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Only a table or two were occupied. Pretty surprised. This place should be packed for lunch. The lady working the front was so sweet. Great service and she even thanked us/said she hoped to see us again. Menu is split into appetizers, KFC, tonkatsu and hansik. - Banchan and miso soup - pretty standard fare. Came with the tonkatsu. - Nara pizza tonkatsu ($15.99) - deep fried pork sirloin with cheese and their special sauce, pickled cabbage and rice. The pizza name is an odd translation but don't let that deter you. The cheese and deep fried pork was a perfect combination. Crispy, tender and not greasy at all. - Nara seasoned chicken ($14.99 half) - KFC with Nara's special sauce. Pretty sure it was a sweet gochujang sauce. Nicely battered and crispy. Great to see Korean finally making its way to the west end. Will be back for more. Very, very soon.

So I finally able to go back and try the fried chicken (Nara Seasoned Chicken that comes with special sauce, the sweet and spicy kind). It's decent. I really like the sauce which goes well with all the fried stuff, especially Tonkatsu. The chicken itself is nothing special, but for us, the portion is enough to be shared among 2 people. The cuts are pretty big. If you're a big eater then you probably will end up finishing the whole basket. We also ordered the Nara Special Tonkatsu that comes with both sirloin and tenderloin Tonkatsu + their special sauce (different from the sauce on the chicken). The portion is pretty big, and I think it meant to be shared or for a big eater. I did finish the whole thing by myself tho so it's not like it's impossible LOL If you've read my last review about the Nara Pizza Tonkatsu (still dreaming about that cheese) you know how much I love their Tonkatsu. It's so soft inside and crispy on the outside. I finally figure out the secret of the crispness, they use real bread to make the crumbs which is surprising since I couldn't really taste bread. As for the special sauce, I know I won't like it once the staff mentioned that it was a mixture of garlic, soy sauce, apple, and BANANA! The banana flavour is way too strong for me. I could only taste banana. So I ordered the curry sauce on the side which complemented the Tonkatsu very well. Honestly, I won't be able to choose between the curry sauce or the sweet & spicy sauce. I probably will always end up ordering both everytime. If you decide to come and try this place, definitely go for the Tonkatsu. Legit the best Tonkatsu I've ever eaten!

We picked the soybean paste soup with tofu, beef brisket and veggies. I enjoyed the saltiness of the soup with rice as well. The dumplings were super crispy and were deep fried perfection. Ambiance was lively as the restaurant was busy. Restaurant was clean including the restrooms. There was plenty of free parking on the plaza. My only complaint is the price of the dumplings. I am too used to Lower Mainland prices that there was a sticker shock at $18.95. Maybe this is the normal in Edmonton?

We love kbbq but it's very expensive here in Edmonton, and there are only two in the city. It's located in an inconspicuous (weird if you ask me) spot, in a neighbourhood in front of a school. Parking wasn't that difficult to get. Upon arriving we waited 10 minutes for our reservation and we got seated. The vibe and atmosphere of this place is very family-run-authentic. The meats are served buffet style and you grab your own drinks from the soda fountain. Sides of lettuce, salad (my personal fave- amazing vinaigrette to cut the meat), kimchi, bean sprouts, etc. There were also a few variety of fried items. My favorite was the shrimp chips. They also have fried rice but no white rice. Which leads me to my next point-- Service: AMAZING!! One of the older ladies saw my boyfriend and I mixing our fried rice and kimchi to make kimchi fried rice. She asked if we wanted some sesame oil and seaweed to put into our fried rice to make it more bokkeum-bap!! She came back with a bottle of sesame oil and mixed it in for us. The only downsides: They put a piece of parchment paper over the grill which kind of absorbs all the juice. The selection of meat is very limited as well. For 2 people not including our alcohol, it came to about $75 for AYCE. Not too bad considering it's the only other kbbq place in town. Will definitely be regulars!

Marinated raw Onion was good (better slightly warmed on the grill). Marinated pork was my favorite. Pork belly was good. The super thinly sliced was one was my least favorite. Hard to cook and shrivels up too much. The super thick cuts I also did not like as I found it too chewy but honestly that could just be my cooking skills. My boyfriend and I split the Bulgogi Fries and the Padak (Soy Garlic) Korean Fried Chicken. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. After one bite of the Bulgogi Fries, it was an immediate 10/10. The fries were crispy and had the perfect golden crisp + soft inside ratio. And don't even get me started with the sauce on top. The white sauce was light, and had the perfect combination of slightly sweet and savory. It was a wonderful aioli. And the veggies added were so good. The tomatoes and scallions added a nice freshness and slight acidity to the overall dish. Lastly the bulgogi was just *chef's kiss*. I don't really know how else to explain it other than the Bulgogi Fries were a well-balanced dish. We were scooping every single missed vegetable in the sauce after we demolished the fries. The Padak (Soy Garlic) fried chicken was so tasty. Whenever I get wings, my go-to is pretty much anything soy garlic, or anything included garlic. The fried chicken skin was the best part. Great texture, crunchy, crispy, wonderful flavor. It was a great blend of savory, umami, and garlic. And the green onions on top was a great addition. Portion size for both things we ordered was perfect for the two of us. Also, don't even get me started on the banchans. Great kimchi, radish kimchi was so refreshing, and that mashed potato side? Terrific. We asked for more banchan when we were done. Lastly, we came back the very next day to try the desserts. At first, I wanted to pick one dessert to share between me and my boyfriend but it was so difficult to choose one. So we got both lol. We ordered the Injeolmie Waffle, Honey Butter Bread, and tried some of my cousin's Strawberry Bingsu. The Injeolmi Waffle itself was delicious, sweet but not too sweet. The ice cream added that sweetness and the almonds on top were nice. And the Honey Butter Bread? Wow. The milk bread and the fresh whipped cream were fluffy, light, and not too sweet. I would go back again in a heartbeat. If I was in the neighborhood, I would be a regular. And when I give a place 5 stars, 5 stars to me means: take my money and I might dangerously spend too much of my paycheck here. Which is what I did, but no regrets. Birthday kid wolfed down the fries and corn dog. If you like these things, you really need to come here. The Kimbab was fresh but I was hoping for a bit more flavours in it. The bubble tea was fine but a bit sweet for my liking. However, if you need a quick bite to eat and are in the area, choose this over any fast food establishment. About the same in price point, and way better flavours and freshness. This would also make a good take out for a picnic.
