I called early in the morning with a bit of a chaotic voicemail. I'm leaving out of town tomorrow and needed a color correction desperately. Knowing how booked every salon was in the area I had very little hope of being seen today. To my surprise, They got back to me within the hour prior to store opening saying that they had availability for me. I wasn't sure what I wanted, whether to stay blonde or transition to brunette, but they worked with my schedule and made sure that I was fit into their day no questions asked. Elizabeth did my hair and listened to me and my concerns with my hair, reassured me and gave me so much validation. She was so kind, caring and gentle. I didn't want to post a negative review, but after reaching out to the salon (via their contact form on their website) several times and getting no response, I figured I should be honest about my experience. I visited narmoune to get 3-4 inches trimmed off my hair. For context I have fairly curly hair and was really excited to get a cute pixie-ish kind of shag haircut. I provided my hairstylist with several reference pictures (included in this review for reference) and she assured me that the haircut I showed her was possible. I also called and specifically asked for someone who cut curly hair when I made my appointment. The person who cut my hair was very kind (and gave me the most relaxing hair wash of my entire life) but the cut she gave me was NOTHING like the reference pictures. I cannot speak to the experiences of people with straight hair, but I HIGHLY caution curly-haired people. The whole hair-cutting experience was great (everyone is very kind, loved the ambiance of the place) except for the actual haircut. Also (and this is my personal option), it feels a bit crazy for a wash, cut, and diffusing till damp (not a blowout! And also not totally dry) to cost $130. I caution curly haired people. "Walk-ins welcome" Not really .... I was a walk in and truthfully, this was the only place in the Claremont Village that didnt have a wait. There are at least 4 other places on the same block to cut your hair.. go there. I came in asking for an undercut. I had already presectioned the hair I wanted cut and tied into an elastic. I have had this done before so I knew exactly how much hair I wanted to be cut. I wanted the lines to be straight so I asked her to resection the hair to make it even. She showed me the back and I could tell it was slightly higher than I originally wanted, but only but about 1/4 inch so I said, ok, thats fine. I am aware my head has a crease/fold in the back, I did not want this to show through. I told the stylist this, but as she cut it could feel her lining it higher and higher. Originally they told me all hair cuts are $100 dollars, but since they only shaved the back, she charged me 50 and I left a 10 dollar tip. Later I didnt feel right and I went to a barber shop where a barber cleaned up the lines, added the design that I wanted, but did not take the cut higher up. The cost at the barber was $10. And I also tiped $10. Thanks to Wolf & Rye for fixing what they could. I went back the next day to try and have a conversation about the price. I just didnt feel right spending 50$ on something that didnt look like the reference at all. I was met with a very defensive manager, despite not being combative myself. I simply showed her the reference photo alongside the photo of my head. At the very least she could have heard and saw my concern, and made me feel better. But she continued to insist that my hair look JUST like the reference and that there was no issue. When I asked her "Do you think my hair looks fine?" She responded in a very escalated tone "You can't just come in here and demand a refund!" 1. I asked if you thought my hair was fine, thats not an answer. 2. I am not demanding anything And 3. I do, in fact, have the right to come in here and politely ask to be reimbursed for a mistake that was made.. so .. actually I CAN do that At this point I wanted to leave but she insisted I sit in her chair so we could "talk about it" She spent a few minutes trying to convince me that the haircut is "not higher than the top of my ear" and that makes it ok. In this picture you can clearly see that it is, in fact, above my ear. I came in politely and nonconfrintational and I immediately felt disrespected and gaslit. I was showing her photos of my hair and she touched the back of my head and said "let me see" in a way that felt like she didnt believe me. This woman was extremely defensive when there was no reason to be. I have every right to be unset, and I didnt even go in there upset. She was incredibly rude and not helpful. As I said, this is a small place, and I'm sure there may be lovely stylist there. I was too socially anxious to tell the stylist I wasnt ok, and I wasnt going to refuse to pay. The fact that I paid, tipped and came back to be treated like I was just trying to swindle a free haircut is unbelievable. The manger/owner, whoever she was, is not really keen on making you feel better about anything or making it right. I truly felt that because I was a walk-in that got a "cheap" hair cut (because remember, anything less than $100 isnt typical) that they didnt feel I was worthy of their apologizes and effort. Honestly, I trusted the reviews on this salon and decided to go after wanting layers for a while. Elizabeth cut my hair and I asked to keep the same length but I wanted longer layers. She cut and styled my hair as a blowout which came to $100. It wasn't until my aunt straightened my hair for my sister's graduation that I realized Liz completely chopped my hair! You can tell in the photos that it's not remotely even! I ended up asking my aunt to just cut my hair to the shortest layer I had. So now, im pretty much back to having flat hair with no volume which I'm saddened about since I wanted to look and feel good for my graduation coming up. I definitely would not recommend this salon... or at least not Elizabeth. I actually started to think that they style your hair at the end of the appointment to hide their mistakes! Customer service? Great! Quality? Absolutely horrible. Side note: Elizabeth also cut my grandma's hair which is pretty curly which she said she can cut. Just wanted to come on here and say that I got my last hair cut at Narmouné nearly 6 months ago and it was the best cut I've gotten in a really long time and grew out beautifully. As someone who gets quite anxious when going in for cuts (I don't get them often), I immediately felt super comfortable by my stylist. Before he even began cutting, we spent around 10 minutes looking through my references and talking about what I wanted coming out of the cut. This provided me with a level of reassurance that isn't often found in salons. I also really appreciated my stylist checking in several times throughout the appointment to make sure the cut was going as I wanted. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Narmouné. I just had a cut and gloss done by Jennifer B. She's been my stylist since December 2019. Jennifer listened carefully to what I wanted which was no permanent color please and as always, low/no maintenance. She suggested a gloss which sounded perfect. She applied the gloss followed by Aveda's Color Conserve shampoo and conditioner, and an amazing scalp massage. Thank you! COVID has forced me to let my bangs and length grow out. I asked Jennifer to please clean up my bangs because I wanted them to grow out and trim up the length. She accommodated. Jennifer did an AMAZING job. I have a great new style. The gloss is exactly what I wanted. I have a few grays; the gloss adds subtle color to the grays and they appear more like natural highlights. I'm so happy with my cut and gloss. Thanks very, very much Jennifer! Narmin, the new owner has cleaned up the salon; it has a much more serene feel and is aesthetically pleasing. SECOND UPDATE Despite it being so long after my haircut, the owner allowed me to come back and personally fixed the front of my hair. Her willingness to fix it and make sure I was happy with it was wonderful! I definitely recommend her salon! UPDATE After posting this review, the owner reached out to me and offered to have me come in to cut the front once I returned from traveling. Unfortunately I'm not able to go in as planned due to illness but I appreciate them being willing to correct the issue. ORIGINAL REVIEW The stylist didn't cut the front of my hair though I asked her to cut my existing face framing layers. The salon said that since I did not notice it sooner and can't come in this week, they will not fix it for free. I called 4 days after the cut when I washed my hair and saw that the front of my hair was the same length it had been before the cut. Unfortunately, I'm traveling and can't return this week. While I understand that it's not their policy to fix it after a certain period, the cut itself doesn't look great with my natural wavy/curly hair and the front of my hair should have been cut that day. My experience with Narmin has been amazing from the first consult to the multiple finished products. The first time I saw her, she transformed my at home dyed hair to a seamless, soft ombre that was gentle enough to maintain the integrity of my curly hair. She reshaped my strange postpartum hair into a really flattering cut that made my hair look much more full. After about 8 months of growing my hair out, I was ready to get rid of my thin ends from my pregnancy and embrace a brand new shape. She cut my hair into a beautiful curly bob that I had no idea I could pull off. I immediately said "sign me up!" Had my locks expertly cut and coloured by Doris -owner. I really appreciate her making sure she keeps my hair healthy and helps me grow it out. My hair had no style and was badly shaped so she did her best to make it look more even. They have very high end hair products -which to me means they only use the best.
