A "must-have" wine for parties, it's always the one that people ask me about and love and want to know where I got it. Beautiful property and the owners Eileen and Marty are lovely people. The Rosè, Festa, and Mourvèdre are excellent and are my favorites, although I haven't tried one I haven't liked (which is saying a lot). Thank you Mais Fica Winery!

Well, I am here to tell you that the real gem when it comes to wine is the Sierra Foothills region of California where hundreds of small wineries producing brilliantly crafted gold medal winning vintages. A few years ago, I received a gift from the love of my life...a six pack of select wines from the Sierra wine region. Among them was a bottle of 2012 Syrah from the Mais FICA Winery, just outside Placerville, CA. The taste was heavenly, so much so that I paid them a visit to buy 4 mixed cases during my next trip to visit my Mom. Marty and Eileen Blair, the owners, were warm, inviting, and energetic about wine making and humble about their passion. Truth be told, they produce gold medal winning wines that deserve to be in everyone's wine fridge. They have made me an ardent follower their wine making prowess. I recently brought back a mixed case of their Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Festa GSM, and SM Blend which are tremendous values at $18-$25 a bottle, before their case discount!!! Why would you want to pay $50 and more for a single bottle of Napa wine, when you can buy 3 award winning wines directly from a passionate winemaker for $54? Even when you include tax and shipping, you are still below Napa pricing. Now, you have to go through a bit more effort to buy their wine because they are a small producer, however, I can assure you, it WILL be worth it and you WILL NOT be disappointed! Mais FICA doesn't have a tasting room because it is too expensive for a small producer. And during the Covid pandemic closure, they are only able to "sell" you wine without doing a tasting...so here is what I suggest you do. Go to www.MaisFicaWinery.com and invest in one or more bottles of their delicious wine. They ship all over the USA. If you get their Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and GSM, You'll spend a max of $74 for all four (the last Naps Cab I bought was over $80 a bottle), plus shipping and tax (if you live in CA). Although the tasting experience is one of the best aspects when buying wine, these challenging times require engaging in the out of the ordinary if you want to expand your wine drinking pallet. Mais Fica wines are hidden gems just waiting to be discovered, so visit their website, pick a bottle or two or even six, and start toasting your newest discovery! Soon, if you are anything like me, you'll be sharing your find with your friends, neighbors, workmates, and those you want to impress! Full disclosure... I am not being paid to post this review. I am a more than satisfied customer who wants more people to experience the sheer joy of drinking Mais FICA Wines as I have. FYI..."Mais Fica" translates into "more for me" in the Portuguese language. Isn't that awesome!!! Cheers to there being more for yo!

There are NO added sulfites here. I can drink their wine here without headaches, without getting sick. The staff is so cool, friendly and they have this amazing "spiel" that they can give you about how the processing in the industry of wine has changed. I've digressed! They take such good care of you and their wine here... The wine is amazing! The whites stand up to the reds. They pour it midstream because it is bold, fruity and clean not sweet. The winery itself, clean, countryside, vineyard. Family friendly, dog friendly. There is occasionally events here like music and crafts. They have a game shelf for the kids (or adults). Fooz ball table! Food pairings! It's beautiful here at every level. Haven't tasted anything here I haven't liked... haven't met anyone here who isn't warm, friendly, open. Therefore, we were excited when one of our favorite couples to hang out with invited us to Smokey Ridge Ranch for wine tasting. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a friendly employee who urgently ran behind the bar to attend to us. Since we were pending the arrival of our friends, we decided to get the party started with two glasses of tempranillo (the employee kindly allowed for us to sample it before purchasing it). While we awaited the arrival of our friends, my wife and I found a picnic table in the shade. Once our friends arrived they ordered a wine tasting flight to share. As we put the finishing touches on our tempranillo, an employee came by to see if we were ready for another round. Since it was a 100 degree day, we figured that it would be wise to order something cold and refreshing. Although we have never been fans of rosé, it just felt like the appropriate thing to order. We enjoyed our time at Smokey Ridge Ranch, next time we will bring a charcuterie board to enjoy with their large pours of wine!

My personal favorite was the Artichoke Florentine because the mint pesto is so refreshing for the summer. I also appreciate the low alcohol options, as it allows me to join in the fun despite my alcohol sensitivity. The vineyards and gardens are spectacular as usual; I highly recommend the main lake trail/loop for the shade it offers during the hot summer. The turtle pond is secluded and pleasant, but it's further and lacks shade, so I recommend bringing a parasol.

It slightly diminished the overall poshness of the experience, as we would have loved something beyond charcuterie while enjoying the wine. That said, we still had a wonderful time--and even became members--so that says a lot. I do hope they expand their food options in the future. If you're looking for a great atmosphere and delicious wine, I would absolutely recommend checking them out.
