What does space smell like? I won't spoil the surprise - but this interactive definitely made an impression
    Andrea J.

Summary: Don't want the hassle of the Smithsonians? Hidden gem in Greenbelt. Totally worth a visit - especially with kids. Lots of interactives keep them engaged (even though the label text is written on basically a graduate level) Pros: -- 6 year old loved it. Lots of buttons to push, interactive displays. -- Small enough to NOT be overwhelming. Going to Smithsonian's Air & Space is a serious commitment. And hard on my feet (I have plantar fasciitis). This place is lots more relaxed. Easy. We did everything in about 1.5 hours. I wasn't exhausted. Just right. And it is 20 min from my house in Brentwood, MD. -- Favorite features: 1) a station that simulates the *smell* of space - woah! 2) a couple of videos that tell personal stories about NASA scientists, including women of color 3) the little alcove they called a "solarium" with a lifesize video of sun "weather" - very chill little spot. Wish there were a bunch of pillows in there! --Visually interesting place inside, lots of cool space photography -- Great outdoor spot for kids to run around. Plus 15 picnic tables -- Cute little gift shop with fun stuff. -- Real (albeit old) rockets outside. -- Lots of free parking -- Free admission Cons: -- Label text and some videos are full of scientific jargon. Made it hard to explain to your kiddo as a science translator from adult speak to kid speak. I'm like "I don't understand so I can tell you about this one, buddy." This is the biggest con for me. I know more about space than the average person, but it was tough to read several paragraphs of science-speak to get to the "takeaway" of each display. -- Outside is very dated - probably hasn't changed since Goddard was built in 1976. (But this is also kind of charming in a time capsule kind of way) -- Videos need captions. Some had it, some didn't. **Protip 1: Get ice cream at Hershey's Ice Cream (across the street) after the museum! There is also a nearby pizza place (Ledos). **Protip 2: Apple maps brought me to the wrong entrance. Try this address instead: 9432 Greenbelt Road Greenbelt, MD 20771

My wife and I attended a fantastic private tour of the facility put on by Smithsonian Associates. If you have the opportunity to take this tour, do it! You are taken through many areas not normally shown to visitors, including facilities where satellites are assembled and tested. Pretty amazing stuff. The public area of Goddard has some interesting exhibits, but many of them were not functioning properly when we tried to explore them. The solarium is nice, but small, and I would have loved to see more recent images of the Sun. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable and the gift shop has some awesome NASA schwag that you can't find at the National Air and Space museum, so that's worth a visit!

A really nice place to visit when you're visiting Maryland, or if you're looking for something educational to do on the weekend. It was free to get in and I learned a lot in the 40 minutes we had there! In 40 minutes, I probably got about a third of the way through the exhibit. They have many interactive exhibits that explain the various ways NASA collects data on the planet and how that data is integrated to provide a picture for how the planet is changing. I particularly enjoyed the exhibit on ice cores. I'd lectured on these this past spring, so it was really exciting to see an example of them in person, get a sense of how large they are, and also be able to see how the layers differ from each other from the various time periods. Such a cool stop!

What an extraordinary experience! We would do it all again. Excited for when the James Webb Space Telescope gets out there - picking up on things from our past and in our future? What? We could've stayed in the sun solar simulator for a full meditation!

Pretty nice place to bring the kids to look at some of the things that NASA has done in the past. (Very educational). They also have a pretty nice gift shop with all sorts of things!

Great little center to learn about certain Nasa missions that are mainly sponsored by the Goddard Flight Center as well as other exhibits pertaining to space. This is definitely not a visitor center like the Kennedy Space Center in Florida but is worth the trip if you need something to do. Another cool thing is that every first Sunday they have rocket launches, so you can bring out your own little rocket to see how far it can go. They have a little gift shop next to the center to pick out some Nasa gear which was neat. Overall great little visitor center that would be good for something else to do in the DMV area.

I understand that appointments are backed up, but that does not excuse the lack of basic courtesy and professionalism, especially when dealing with people who are already under significant stress. The SSA's own guidance states that urgent employment-related cases can be handled as walk-ins, but the staff here didn't even acknowledge this possibility. Very frustrating experience, and I will make sure to visit another office instead. It's a 5 story structure where one side is completely glass and open to the center of the interior. There are historical displays and art that line the wall on each level. While standing here, a citizenship swearing in ceremony has just taken place. These new US citizens were very proud to hold the American flag and take pictures with their family. I helped take photos of three different groups so they could all get in their respective pictures together. As I write this, my heart is filled with pride for those who go through this process and choose to be citizens of the United States of America, while others who are born here take citizenship for granted. If you happen to be in Greenbelt and you want to experience pride for your country; along with witnessing the joy of newly made citizens, stop into this courthouse between noon and 1pm. I believe they take place here every Monday.

I went in and the security guard and lady who worked at the front... had such a grating voice, they were so loud and unprofessional. I feel even worse for the people who are English as a second language speakers, who make up atleast 30% of the population in PG County (probably even more) who are receiving this type of service. There's only one way to fix this issue and it's to fix it from the inside out. Is this the reputation that PG County needs and wants? As someone who was born and raised here, I am just appalled at the service. Elected officials needs to know that there are people who are clearly UNHAPPY at their jobs and that government offices are hiring UNPROFESSIONAL PEOPLE.

For any of my previous reviews (under the name, "Viv) on Social Services, please the Google review…read morepage for Social Services Hilton (Baltimore, Maryland) where I gave an in depth explanation of my previous experiences. Issues that I've had with Social Services escalated to the point of contacting Maryland Congressmen because I had no where else to turn. Since then, it's been a theory that there's some kind of vendetta held against me which is hard to dispute with how my cases have been handled since. It is September 24, 2021 and as of September 14th my TDAP case was closed because according to Social Services, "You failed to apply for SSI as required." I received a letter of denial from Social Security on September 11th and immediately reapplied for SSI online. After doing so, I submitted proof of my new application claim to MyDHR. The website Social Services and the Department of Human Services insists everyone use. This isn't the first time Social Services has immediately closed my case after they found out my claim for SSI was denied. They did this same action earlier this year and not only was I told I had to reapply for TDAP AND SSI, but I was told that I should not wait to reapply or appeal my SSI claim because my case can be pulled up and closed without conversation. What I fail to realize is, when did this new rule come about? When you apply for TDAP or SNAP, you are given a start date and an end date. Before that end date, you're required to fill out any information for redetermination so your case can be decided on. I applied for TDAP in July. My start date was July 2021 and my end date was June 2022. 2 months later, however, my case is closed again. What is the purpose of benefit start and end dates when Social Services can just cut you off whenever they feel like it? Because of my past experiences with Social Services, I no longer contact them when something goes awry. Instead I contact someone of higher status because that seems to be the only way to get something solved or get anything done. There's still no way to directly contact your case manager about any of your cases. The number that they put on your case papers to "contact your case manager" is a number to Social Services customer service, they're liable to cut you off and leave you high and dry (which plenty of people have pointed out on their Google review page) and there's still not enough employees working so someone from Baltimore County can be handling a Baltimore City case. I say all of this to not only get it off my chest but to also help or warn anyone who might be dealing with the same thing. If you are having continous issues with Social Services and don't see a solution in sight, take that matter to the higher ups. Continue to speak out about what you're going through on any platforms you can. Social workers take on their position but a lot of them don't uphold the definition of their job. They're supposed to be there to help people, to care for human beings and the less fortunate. Not to condemn or demean someone for their unfortunate circumstances.
