This was my first visit to the this library since I moved to the area last February. As I decided…read moreone of my resolutions was that I wanted to get back into reading so this was the first step! So I went inside on February 1st to use the computer as I needed to prints some copies. The library is less than 5-minutes from my house so very convenient location. When I walked in I was greeted by the nice lady at the desk. She signed me up for my library card and gave me a quick overview of the library. What I really liked was that you get free copies up to 10 pages each day. Which at my last library you paid for every sheet! So after I printed out what I needed I walked around the library to see what they had to offer. Now the library is on the smaller size so they didn't have loads of books, but I loved the selection they had and checked out my first of many books. I also really liked that they give you like 3-weeks before the book is due which is awesome because it's been a while since I read a book unfortunately. So to give me that long I'll be able to definitely finish the first one of many books without any problems. The library has a nice open set up with the computers located in the middle, private rooms, teen area, and also for the younger kids a nice selection. I also like they have some comfy chair areas that you can sit and enjoy your book as well. I can't wait to come back!

The library is welcoming, neat, and fully stocked with reading and learning materials. The staff is super helpful. I was able to get my shiny new library card and "welcome" bag in no time. We also grabbed some COVID tests on the way out. There's also a Caring Cupboard set up out front for donations of supplies nonperishable food items. My daughter got her very first library card today and she was so excited to use it. I love the "teen" area that they have filled with tables and YA books. I love that the teens have a specific area all to themselves.

A great place to take the kids…read more.. Love the children's area! There is a decently-stocked play area with toys and games appropriate for kiddos ages 6 months-5 years. There are usually coloring and activity pages available near the children's librarian's desk as well. The staff in the area is helpful and courteous. There is a children's restroom in the kids' area complete with toddler-sized potty and changing table. There is a changing table in the lobby women's room as well. There are usually plenty of parents around, and if you're a nursing mom, you'll never get the evil eye here (though you shouldn't get it anywhere, y'know?). Throughout the year, the library offers programs for children of all ages. These range from Babies in Bloom (newborn-24 months) to teen classes and workshops. I'd love to give the West County Area Library five stars, but I just can't get past the modern architecture and the somewhat sterile vibe. I guess that I just like a library to have some character (and no, that doesn't mean cobwebs and card catalogs; just a more traditional look).

The Petworth Neighborhood Library has that wonderful OLD feeling to it. From the historic exterior…read moreto the heavy wood furniture in the reading rooms, it makes you feel like you are stepping back in time (at least, more so than many other DC libraries). Even with the old-world feel, the space is bright and cheery. The staff is a little more hands-off than other locations but I've never encountered anyone rude when I've had questions. I've attended the Tuesday toddler story/music time here and it gets pretty crowded...more so than at other libraries. I'm glad that they offer so many activities such as this, but it can seem a little disorganized. They do a great job with children's programming throughout the year (we made snow globes at an evening craft session for kids which was a big hit!). Bathrooms: located on the top floor (children's room) and bottom floor, so a bit of a hassle if you are planning on sticking to the main floor.

We love the children's section for the boys as they have a puppet…read morebooth, play areas that change with season, a computer for children to use with games appropriate to learning and age, puzzles, etc. They also have a great variety of magazines for kids and grown ups. You can use them while you are there. And if you are electronically savvy they have many free online magazines you can read from home with your library card. The staff is very helpful in all regards. We have been going here for a couple years now and we always enjoy going. They also host many children's and grown up events.
