Now,  wherever I'm…read moretraveling to I always check to see if they have a tour.  Luckily, I was able to join an available tour for the downtown area on a Sunday morning. The day was cold and dreary, but I still had an amazing time. The tour guide, Paul, was excellent. He kept the tour entertaining and educational. Paul seemed very passionate about the history and culture of Nashville. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and at the end, he gave us suggestions and directions based on our interests. I loved his honesty on places he thought we would or wouldn't enjoy based on our interests.  These tours are a great way to meet other travelers while enjoying the major attractions.  Of course, the tours aren't completely free because guides do accept gratuity, which they truly deserve.

We walked enough to get a bit of exercise but not to be tired, and we saw some great sites along the tour as it was 1 hour and 50 minutes for us and only one big hill. As a history teacher, I definitely picked up some interesting stories to bring back to class next year, and I learned some cool stats on Nashville and a bit of the behind the scenes on some of the country music stars of the area. It was really worth it. My husband does not love stuff like this, he'd rather grab a bite and do our own adventuring, but he was really pleased we did this as well. They have night life , concerts, awesome restaurants, museums. There's something for everyone. We flew from Newark airport and rented a car once we got there. Lucky for us Experience Nashville Tours was scheduled to do one tour on Monday and we were able to confirm a spot on Sunday evening. We met our tour guide Kaysie along with a few other travelers and it was well spent couple hours. This lady is so high energy and enthusiastic that it really makes the tour a wonderful experience. You can tell she has a great passion for the artists and history of the town and she took us to several very interesting venues with lots of background stories. Our greeter Sterling was the most amazing tour guide. Probably the best tour guide I have ever had, in any city. Kind, funny, informative with a personal touch, she gave us a complete and comprehensive walking tour of Nashville. The tour had something for everyone. Architecture and art, food and music. She gave us a lay of the land and helped us map out what we wanted to do while we were there. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. The tour was free and you are not allowed to tip. RIDICULOUS! I would have gladly paid for this tour and I felt horrible that I couldn't tip...but that's their policy. Definitely book this ahead of time and towards the beginning of your trip. Met an *uber* knowledgeable greeter (and her husband) - who understood we'd miss their tour - but strongly encouraged us to sign up for the Must City Greeter tour - which was *amazing!* Shannon, our guide, took us on a completely different tour - to places *she* liked, and she talked about honkey tonks *she* liked, and food/restaurants *she* recommended! A TOTALLY *personalized* tour! We did not stay on the main roads - but went on side roads and got a unique view on Nashville downtown. Shannon even pointed us toward where to go to take a great photo on the bridge! She "went over" the expected one-hour tour - but not one of us had a problem with that! She has lived there for years and had never done this tour, which made it feel like a bit of a discovery for both of us. We ended up at the Lotz House Museum, and it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly memorable experiences. On this particular day, we lucked out with Chuck as our guide. He is a former high school history professor, and you can tell immediately. He does not just recite facts, he brings everything to life with stories, details, and just the right amount of drama. The house itself is not large, but that almost works in its favor. Between the stories of the Lotz family and the vivid accounts of the Battle of Franklin happening right outside, you can practically see it all unfolding as you move from room to room. It is the kind of experience that sticks with you long after you leave, and at around seventeen dollars, it feels like an absolute steal. And do not skip the gift shop. Treat yourself to a peach Nehi soda on your way out. It is unexpectedly fantastic, and I am still thinking about how to get my hands on more.
