Wow, what a blast!?! Joe was our guide and so enjoyable to be around. No matter how much you know about Franklin, you would thoroughly love this. Best Christmas Present ever! Talk about local flavor... New sampling eats and treats from places that we've been to but never tasted. We returned later that night for dinner for more soup from Amaricana Taphouse, along with our new found favorite beer served by David (sporting the best mustache in town). Friendliness and tastes at the Savory Spice store brought both history and such a variety of BBQ spices along with a nice parting gift. :) Triple Crown Bakery can't be beat for the sweets and the service. There is always something new at the "Gallery 202" to see. The time was relaxing and the conversation flowed so nicely we couldn't believe it when we our time came to an end, even a bit overtime, but we were having so much FUN. It was a perfect fall evening to stroll around our town with Joe, who was very energetic and passionate about his "job." Although we did not see any ghosts that night, it was hard not to keep glancing up into the windows of the places we stopped at, hoping to see someone or something looking back. The Franklin On Foot tour was the best decision we made as we explored Franklin for the first time. Given that our visit was short, the tour was an exciting way to learn some history and get a taste of some delicious eateries in Franklin. Joe was an informative guide who genuinely offered that Southern hospitality that I'd always heard about. I was truly impressed with the stories that he shared along the tour. I expected a good cuisine experience on a food tour but I was more impressed with the amount of history we learned along the way. As we stopped at different eateries, we learned their history and the inspiration behind the scrumptious food and refreshing libations. Learning about where the Indigenous tribes were invited to meet with the Masons that led to the unfortunate birth of The Trail of Tears, to the stories of a freed slave who chose to stay in Franklin and later became the owner of a successful boot repair shop and also became an influential figure in the community in regards to race relations, to walking into a gallery that had historically been used as a hospital during the Battle Of Franklin, to being introduced to Franklin's recent unveiling of a statue in the town center, of The United States Colored Troops. I was very appreciative that Joe offered a fuller history than what I had anticipated and delighted that this community takes pride in telling everybody's story in the history of Franklin. I only wish I'd have more time to partake in the other tours Joe offers--more reason to return to Franklin. I can't cross this one off the list--Franklin is definitely a return destination. My husband and I were in Franklin because I had a conference to attend nearby. One of my colleagues recommended the haunted Franklin Tour. At $18/person, why not and the hubby and I could learn more about the town since we were all the way from Los Angeles! Here's my recommendation: Look online to make sure a tour is running and then call... just in case. Our guide Alicia answered and lucky for us we got spots. The tour meets on the courthouse steps and very convenient to be able to stop at a local "haunt" a pre-tour cocktail at Gray's. Alicia, our guide, was fantastic. She was so welcoming and knowledgable! The walk was easy and we were able to learn so much about the good, bad and scary parts of Franklin. Such a sordid history with pictures to prove it. Went on a group tour with a small work team yesterday & had a great time! Our guide, Alicia, was witty, enthusiastic, and seemed to really be interested in what she was talking about. For the crime tour (Murder and Mayhem), you have to schedule a tour, but as long as it's a few days before you want to go, there is no problem. For $18 per person, I think it's a great value for a couple hours of good entertainment. One thing to be aware of - all tours are rain or shine! Make sure you're prepared for the heat or cold, as there are no indoor stops at all, though there are some benches throughout. (An August afternoon may not have been my best idea for our outdoor walking tour...) Bring your own water/sunglasses/sunscreen and enjoy stepping back in time! :) read more

We're Franklin locals and have never done a walking tour. We've taken lots of Ghost tours in other cities like New Orleans, Savannah & Charleston, but never the one here...until this last weekend. This was the coolest thing we did when vacationing in Nashville- and that's saying something!! Our tour guide Alicia was amazing and as a lover of haunted everything, it was such a cool experience! The Cherry Manor house was so freaky both my friend and I were positive we were touched by something outside the house and while that may seem dramatic but trust me if you saw the pictures we saw you'd believe in anything!
