It is emotionally draining and was (in my case) months of fear, panic, anger, and depression. As a father of three, I couldn't imagine a single day where I couldn't spend time with my kids. But the reality was that I would have to learn to live with it. Their mother and I were to have shared custody and that meant that I would only see them 50% of the time. I didn't want our family to be torn apart. I had forgiven her affairs and addictions to drugs and alcohol, but she thought her life would be better on her own. We divorced, and I began the process of trying to learn how to be a single dad and provide my kids with as much of a normal life as possible. I count myself to be very fortunate to have had the assistance of Dana and Don at Mediation and Family counseling. While the divorce has been final for a while, I use them as a resource for issues dealing with my children and their mother. Unfortunately, her substance abuse problems have not gotten better, and she continues to try to poison the relationship between my me and my children. Don and Dana's experiences in dealing with all types of family situations have given them the wisdom and background to help me with sound advice and practical methods to talk to my kids and avoid getting dragged down into the negative and vindictive world of my ex-wife. Not only would I recommend Dana and Don for anyone else needing mediation or counseling, I continue to use them to this day. They have been a lifeline for me when I thought that there was no hope. They know family law and work towards reducing conflict and alienation - especially when kids are involved. They have helped me make the best of a bad situation and helped me to understand the needs and feelings of my children and ex-wife. I was initially nervous starting the process, but the whole thing was not only made very easy and understandable but just comfortable. Even dealing with billing and insurance was pleasurable! They have a wide variety of counselors available that cover just about any topic you'd be interested in, as well in a number of different styles. I wanted an in-person experience, and they were graciously able to accommodate that. They give you a little placement questionnaire to help best pair you with a potential counselor before you start, and I really think that helps make all the difference in finding someone right for you. Couldn't recommend this practice enough for anyone looking for help. Parking is ample, but in the attached and nearby lots, as well as on the side streets.

She also argued with me, in front of my daughter, about a physical condition I have, saying it is caused by depression. I have never seen a more inappropriate therapist in my life, I honestly don't know how she is even employed at Lager. The rest of the therapists are wonderful there. My friend brought her son to see Allie and she was just as inappropriate with them as she was with me. Her son would come out of therapy angry with his mother every week when he was not angry with her before.

The work my husband has done through his therapy with Bill has been like a miracle. It has helped both of us to better understand and connect with our children. Before we started our sessions with Bill, our house was chaotic. There was constant yelling and screaming, by us and by our son. He was kicking and punching and we didn't know how to stop it nor did we understand why it was happening. It's unbelievable, the impact Bill has had on all of our lives. Having had Susan as a therapist when she was working in Santa Barbara, I would not recommend her…read more When I was deeply depressed and had difficulty opening up to her, Susan saw me for months and then said that I had "wasted" my time by not speaking more during our sessions. She also told me that I should start pretending to be happy even when I wasn't. None of that was professional or helpful, and having had a number of good therapists since, I'm shocked that she thought that behavior was appropriate.
