Dawn Ranch is in the best location, on the west side of downtown Guerneville on Highway 116. Park your car and walk 5-10 minutes to all the restaurants, bars and shops downtown, and the river. This sweet spot offers glamping tents, cottages, chalets, cabins and bungalows - something perfect for everyone. This is an excellent choice for a romantic getaway for two or for a large family reunion - and it's dog and family-friendly. We stayed in a Meadow Chalet this time, which is perfect for a couple. We loved the front room with a small sofa and the two-sided fireplace, which we used every night and morning when it was chilly. I also love the bungalows and cottages. Be sure to look carefully at the website and select the room and location that suits you best. I like lodging in The Meadow and The Spa area best. The Green area is great if you have dogs and/or kids. They have lawn games there and it's perfect for the classic summer camp vibes. The Grove area is cute, it's across the highway. Dining options at Dawn Ranch are truly exceptional! They offer breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner (note day/times vary.) Dinner on the deck under the redwoods or in the stunning dining room is unforgettable. (Check out the new floral display on the ceiling!) The tasting menu is a FEAST and perfect for a special occasion. ‍ ‍ ‍They have a beautiful full service spa on the property. Book a massage and soak in a redwood soaking tub on the deck first to relax. They also offer yoga, forest bathing and other wellness options. Be sure to check out their midweek and seasonal offers. Their entire staff is welcoming and attentive. I love that they texted us every day to see if we needed anything. This is our second stay and we're already planning our next visit! Thank you team Dawn Ranch for another perfect stay!

The grounds are lovely, but unfortunately, the cabin itself was a bit underwhelming. We understand…read morethe cabin may older, but I expected better cleanliness and upkeep. After walking around in white socks, the bottoms were black/brown, both wine glasses provided were dirty, there was visible mildew/mold in the shower, and one of the hand towels was literally ripped in half. We stayed on the Grove side, which is across the street from most of the amenities. Personally, I wouldn't recommend staying on that side. It's a fairly long walk to get to the main property, and you have to cross a busy street. If you're traveling with little kids, be aware that the food options on the property are limited, so you'll likely need to plan for meals off-property.

Not what you expect to say about a trailer in the woods, but here we are. The suite came with a wood-fired hot tub, which was the highlight. Soaking out there in the redwoods at dusk with the Airstream lit up next to us is an image I'm going to be chasing for a while. Two people made the stay: Blythe at the front desk was absolutely wonderful -- warm, personable, and clearly someone who takes pride in her work and in making sure guests have everything they need. And Favian, who set up our wood-fired tub both nights, was so friendly and full of great recommendations for food and things to do in the area. Can't wait to come back.

The highlight for me at this place was cooking privately at our outdoor grill the first night and not having to clean up afterward. Another fun memory was using their onsite bikes to ride around the outside of the premise. We did have to share road with moving vehicles so would not recommend this for visitors with small kids. This site was nearby a redwoods state park (requires driving) and walking distance to one portion of the Russian river (though you have to cross the highway 17 where cars travel very fast). I highly recommend the redwoods state park because of the picturesque setting and paved paths. Two nights two days was more than enough time to explore the town. Downtown had some cute restaurants and it also has a Safeway. For the price, I will not be back. But it was nice to experience it once.
