I had an absolutely incredible stay here - Kathy at the front desk was fantastic and welcoming, our cottage was clean, neat, and well-stocked, and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. The concierge, S'more (I also called her "Mousekeeping") was a welcome wagon extraordinaire, and a total sweetie pie! Got back from dinner in town to a crackling fire and fixings for smores - my partner and I already had ice cream from town, but we loved getting to kick our feet up and unwind! S'more also provided further excellent service by hopping into my lap and making sure I didn't get too chilly. Continental breakfast was hot, fresh, and had a lovely selection of goodies to choose from. Checkout was easy and breezy and the gal (I didn't catch her name) was also very sweet and kind. All in all - we had an utterly delightful visit and look forward to visiting again!

Upgraded to a 1BR by the pool because of a special occasion, and nothing special happened . The bed is the smallest bed I've slept in, in the US! I am 5-10 and I can touch the ceiling barefoot. I checked out after one night. The ceiling fan in the living room will chop off your hats or fingers when on.

Normally I find it easy to settle on a yelp rating, but I will admit that it was a struggle with Cottages On River Road. When you arrive, parking is right off the street, so there is just the road, space for a car and then the fence to the property. Even though we arrived just after check in, the office was closed and an employee met us out front with our key which was odd, but fine. We had our dog with us so they told us where our room was and where the dog relief area was. The inside of the property is peaceful with a garden-like setting and our room even had a small deck which was nice. The pool was far too cold to use in September but I did sit outside to eat dinner and make friends with an orange tabby that seems to own the place. I noticed that many of the guests had dogs and I always like to give extra points to dog friendly hotels, especially ones like this with only a small $25 fee. The potty area was in the back of the property and very small, I actually left when I saw another person heading back with heir dog because of the limited space. I am not complaining, just advising. The room itself is where it become difficult to rate Cottages On River Road. When I entered my room, the smell of paint was strong, but the room had clearly been remodeled recently and who doesn't want a freshly updated room? So I opened all the windows and even tried leaving the door open thinking in would air out. I spent a good deal of time on the deck but when it got dark and I had to be in the room, I started to get a headache from the smell. I tried to sleep but the room was so close to the road and the noise from the traffic was just so loud that it was virtually impossible. You would think that by 2 or 3 am there would be very little traffic but trucks seemed to be coming through all night and I was only able to get a few hours of sleep. In the morning I was ready to leave and packed up well before check out time but I wanted to make sure to grab some complimentary breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised. They had a lovely little self-serve breakfast station and the sandwiches were delicious. So although, I fell asleep quite early that night to make up for some lost sleep, I left the Cottages on a good note.

The check in was very smooth and staff was warm and welcoming. The property is newly renovated and just beautiful. The location is right by the road but inside is a little piece of heaven. Beautifully done place, surrounded by tress and fire pit. Our king bed room, cottages #17 I believe, was little bit small for my taste especially since we paid little more for a bigger bed but I guess not for more space, not much room to move around and there was no place/shelves to place our 2 luggages but we managed for one night, longer stay would have been an issue for me becasue I really did not have the space to unpack. The bed squeaked when I got up to use the restroom so if you are light sleeper....this might be a problem.

Managed to get only 1 down half mast. * No battery in our smoke detector. (picture attached) * There were cups wrapped in plastic next to sink. There was a spider INSIDE of the plastic wrap. It was revolting. (picture attached) * Vanity looked new but top drawer would not open and close. The cabinet drawers were not aligned and unstable. Further, the insides of the drawers were already soiled and stained. (pictures attached) * No drawers for clothes. Where do we put our T-shirts? Underwear? Shorts? Pajamas? Lived out of suitcase. * No soap dish next to the sink. All of these, individually experienced, might have been trivial. However, collectively, they add up to an experience of being in a cheap motel. These were not the major issues. The three major issues we had were the flooring, the musty odor in the room and the dirty bathtub. * Floor was dirty. This site was nearby a redwoods state park (requires driving) and walking distance to one portion of the Russian river (though you have to cross the highway 17 where cars travel very fast). I highly recommend the redwoods state park because of the picturesque setting and paved paths. Two nights two days was more than enough time to explore the town. Downtown had some cute restaurants and it also has a Safeway. For the price, I will not be back. But it was nice to experience it once.

Downtown was a short walk (groceries, pizza, sandwiches, anything you need) and on the property there were kitchen spaces for us to hang out with plenty to do on the property. Easily sleeps 2 couples in each room or mom and dad and 2 kids, but that's not what you're there for. Outside (if you take both spaces) is a large outdoor deck divided in half by a wall but connected so you can get from one room to the other. It has a shared yard beyond that. The landscaping is amazing. The property is on the river with tons of space to chill in the water. They have a deck for the facility and everyone can use it. It's shared so be prepared to be with other people but it is a place that seems to attract a good crowd. Everyone who we ran into there was nice. Another thing on the property they was cool was coffee, fresh ice cold filtered water, popcorn, and the front desk made the kids cotton candy daily. There is an ice machine there as well so you can roast in the sun and drink ice cold filtered water till you pop. That part of the place is in the outdoor kitchen which is community and has board games and seating for everyone. If I were to get married or have a party it would 1000% be here. I think there is 12 rooms and I'd rent the whole spot for it without even thinking twice. Maybe bring extra help to keep the party rolling but this place legit is perfect for it. They also have like a VIP outdoor seating area we didn't end up getting but has a TV and some "roped off" area to hang out at that is an amazing setup. I can keep going but we loved this place. Even upon arrival our room had spiders have babies in the room (happens yall it's on the river and def outdoorsy) and my wife felt awkward asking because we didn't want to sound like the complaining people but we asked for a vacuum to get them out. The lady actually came in the room and helped us. 5 star stay. 5 star people, oh and being a licensed contractor and getting along with people who work, the people who kept the grounds were cool too. Super nice to our kids, and when you see the landscape, you can tell they are good at their job. Can't say enough good stuff. We will be back.
