This is a Hertz/Thrifty Location…read more At first everything seemed great. I picked up the car, no problem, was able to drop it off and everything seemed good. But then this morning I wake up with a call being told that they had tried to rent the car out but that it smelled too strongly of marijuana and so they refused to take it and that as a result I owe them $300 for cleaning. Now if I had smoked in the car, or if anyone with me had, I would be willing begrudgingly to pay for the cleaning. But neither I, nor any of my passengers smoked anywhere near or in the car. My bf who smokes a tobacco pipe never lit up in the car but always made a point to smoke outside and well away from the vehicle. Now I would be willing to believe that some smell from clothing could transfer, but I can't imagine the smell would be strong enough that 2 days of driving a car would create a smell strong enough to be noticeable let alone so bad that regular cleaning wouldn't take care of it. Additionally, if they were at the stage where they had given the keys to a customer then that means that they themselves signed off on it being in condition to rent. I called back to talk to them, and right away they start changing their story. They claim that they hadn't tried to rent out the car, but that the customer was really insistent that he desperately wanted this particular model. An orange Kia Soul. Now I'm not a car expert, but I've never heard of anyone being super excited about a Kia, at least not enough to insist on it if there are other cars available. They claim that that's what happened and that the guy asked to see how bad the smell was, and that that's when he decided it was too strong and he's unwilling to take it after all. Now, I have a hard time believing that someone who would be wiling to consider dealing with the smell would have been bothered by just clothes transfer. If the smell is that strong someone had to have smoked in the car and I know for a fact it wasn't us. I proposed that maybe one of their guys might have maybe lit up, or since it's an airport parking lot, someone else did. I've checked with my boyfriend's dad who was in the car with us if he had noticed a smell yesterday and he hadn't. Neither of us had. So we have no idea where the smell they're claiming came from. So either someone decided to take advantage of the newly dropped off car to get out of the rain to smoke knowing it would be blamed on the last renter, or they overheard me asking my boyfriend how late a dispensary might be open, since I needed to refill my prescription, which I use in the evenings for Crohn's Disease. This feels like just trying to take advantage of someone who they know can't prove they're not the source, and basically take $300 from me despite me not having done ANYTHING wrong. They made it clear at the time of renting it was a non-smoking car and I wasn't about to risk a heavy cleaning charge because money is tight. I needed a short term rental to get around while I tried to find a cheaper solution, and now I'm facing a huge bill for something I never even did.

Once the staff at the desk heard of the problems, they dealt with things themselves. While the enterprise phone customer service was disjointed (sympathetic but ineffective), the desk did finally return missing belongings after a few phonecalls. There were nobody at the counter, we followed all instructions provided for return. Pristine car, took all paper garbage out from the doors, not a single item inside. We are tidy people, respectful for our own space and all rentals we do. Didn't even have a single rainy day during our 5 days rental. After a month we realized that there were no deposit return. No communication from Enterprise whatsoever . We learned today that they charged us $250 cleaning fee and refused to return deposit. Customer service at the Head Office was not helpful. We've been told that regional manager is going to contact us about this issue and never heard back from them. No response from this branch either. They do what they want without any explanation and you need to chaise them back for your refund. Total scam! Avoid dealing with Enterprise if you can. It will save your time and money.

They told me that the 1800 number will promise anything but they just give you what they have. I'd never heard that before as a policy and while standing at the counter I called and confirmed that if you book for all-wheel drive then they have to provide it. When I told this to the woman at the counter she just said "well we don't have one so..." The phone line offered to let me talk to someone but it's too late now and have to cancel weekend plans. I was expecting to have a vehicle I needed and not bait and switched. I thought that was the point of reserving one. It also weirded me out that she tried to tell me there was no way to give me proof that my res was actually cancelled until I insisted. Terrible service, verify everything BEFORE giving them your card if you do have to rent here. I only went here because my insurance rented through them for me before. I wish I'd read the reviews before trying them personally.

When the coverage ran out, Enterprise "kindly" offered me an SUV gas guzzler at "ICBC rate" of $43/day, which I accepted. Two weeks later they told me that the contract had expired and offered me a small vehicle at $84/day, right before Spring Break. They wanted their vehicle back to make more money.
