I was my grandmothers only caretaker for over 10 years, as well as the only one in her will and POA for everything. I went out of town the night she passed away at the hospital. I gave them my cousins number, Incase I didn't have service. Early Saturday morning she passed. My cousin called to let me know the hospital called her. I immediately called the cremation place. Gave them all of the info they needed. Monday morning, they call my cousin (who hasn't spoken to her her entire life). My cousin said, she has nothing to do with this and to call me. I call to ask why they called her, as I called Saturday, the hospital gave them my info, I'm her caretaker, etc? They were extremely rude, and wouldn't even talk to me. Her next of kin, is my uncle, who is in a mental ward, not coherent. They wouldn't allow me to sign the paperwork, only an incoherent person, who couldn't grasp the fact she was even passed??? Then, the death certificate had incorrect information. AFTER, I emailed them the correct information. Matt, apparently the head of Clearwater, said it's not their fault, as I wouldn't provide any information. So, when I showed him the email chain, he had NOTHING to say other than, nothing can be fix, and I'm out of luck. The most inconsiderate, incompetent person I've ever dealt with. In this profession, I'm mind blown by his lack of knowledge and care. I called several times, he pretended not to be himself, and that he'll take care of the situation. NOTHING was rectified on his end. He sent the incorrect death certificates to my cousin. After we all told him, she has never been in her life and is no part of this. I had to go to the state myself, they overrode him, because he ignored our request for correct HIS mistake. And it cost me another $150 out of pocket. When he pretended not to be himself on the phone, I was told he'd send a refund and acted apologetic about his incompetent staff! I have yet to receive a phone call or a check. No mother wants to lose a child, even a grown child in his 60's. It's still a shock. Especially when there has been no plans made. terrible horrible experience during presentation in Clermont Florida. my husband went to this and didn't take me knowing my health is not good. the presenter refused to answer his questions and told him to leave she then instructed the restaurant staff to make sure he did. she called herself a professional. what a joke. my poor husband just wanted info on making my final arrangements. shame on her for treating him like this. he asked for no follow up calls to protect me. My mother chose cremation 30 years ago and purchased the service at that time. While my mother was in hospice I called National Cremation to confirm they had a record of my mother's purchase these 30 years later, and indeed they did and I began the conversation with their staff to understand the steps. After my mother died I went to the National Cremation offices and was very pleased with the professional services that outlined options for me. There was no hard sell for expensive upgrades. I know some people like fancy services and urns and ocean scattering and National offers all of these, but I chose, as my mother had told me, a simple arrangement. Upon the sudden passing of my wife in 2009 i was at a loss as to "what to do next". A nurse in ICU recommended National Cremation Society. I made an appointment and was relieved to find them so comforting, professional, and "non pushy". I had heard the horror stories of families who had paid way more than they could afford, and was necessary for bidding farewell to their loved one. This is one period when the grieving family is at their weakest point and fully open to unnecessary "upgrades'. We were treated with utmost respect for our feelings, and our finances. My next step is to pre pay the service for myself to eliminate this step for my family. The only downside, apart from the loss of my wife of 53 years, was the invoice from the local paper who charged us $209 for printing her obit. one time. I guess i must have gotten wordy in my accolades! But this issue had nothing to distract from the National Cemation Society. read more

Some things they do not share when a plan is purchased. If your loved one passed away after normal business hours then they subcontract the services out...We waited 3 1/2 hours for them to come to retrieve our loved one. Then to learn they 'ride share' with other deceased souls...So utterly undignified. Our loved one was brought out in a closed body bag...I was told the procedure would be the deceased would respectfully be removed from the home and not be fully covered until they were outside the building. So for a mother to have to ask where was her child's head was so she could kiss him goodbye one more was despicable. These subcontractors could have cared less about anything and are so unprofessional. An apology was given by Dena from the cremation society...But it changed nothing, if this is an acceptable practice I believe I made a mistake entrusting our loved one to their care.The treatment our of loved one remains haunts my sleep. read more

On Wednesday, March 28, 2018,I purchased a cremation package from a National Cremation person, who gave a seminar at Bella Brave, downtown St. Petersburg. I had two main reasons for purchasing the package: (1) I wanted to give my children the gift of complete peace of mind, regarding my death and the disposal of my remains. I wanted to make sure my children were worry-free and had to make no arrangements or payments at the time of my death. (2) I travel quite a bit; so I wanted to be positive that no matter where I die, my body will be properly taken care of. I perked up my ears at the words "anywhere in the free world," happy to know that no matter where I might be at the time of my demise, my body would be taken care of, and again, that my children would be worry-free. Together, the sales person and I did the paperwork at the end of the seminar. I left the restaurant feeling pleased about my decision. During the next several days, I delightedly told friends and family of my decision and my actions. Everyone with whom I shared my news was happy for me and concurred that I had made a wise and selfless decision. All was well, until approximately one week later, I received a large, heavy box in the mail from National Cremation. What, I wondered, could that possibly be? Unfortunately, the outside of the box was broken, and upon opening the box, I discovered that the inside pressed-wood box was also damaged, with a small piece of "wood" knocked out of the top of the box. Why was I receiving the box that had been shown us during the Power Point presentation? Of course, I had taken note of the picture of the box, but I had mistakenly thought that that box would be presented/sent to my children at the time of my death. My receiving the box was puzzling to me. There was an urn inside the box; my ashes were not inside the urn (unless I was somehow delusional); yet I had been told that National Cremation would provide an urn for my ashes, at "the time of need." Why would I need two urns? So, the next day, off I trotted from downtown St. Petersburg to the National Cremation office in Clearwater. I was met by Lori Lacy, Sales Team Manager, I believe, who, besides having a beautiful face and compassionate demeanor, heard me out and tried to explain that the box, (which I kept calling a "gimmick," costing me an extra $329, hidden in the sales/product package), was a gift to me and simply a part of their packaging and processing of the whole deal. The decision, she said, to include the box was a corporate decision made far above her. The Marketing director was called in She was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. (So sorry, but I'm not sure of her name or title.) I was very angry. For some reason receiving "The Box" had set off a trigger in my mind and psyche. I had wanted to keep the process as simple and worry-free as possible to both myself and my children, and in my mind that included having no mementos, urn, planning guide, or anything else to keep in my or my children's possession at this time. I am a minimalist and have divested myself of over sixty-years-worth of accumulation of worldly goods in order to live the simple life in a very small studio apartment. I certainly did not need a large, heavy box containing an urn (maybe or maybe not to be used for my future ashes), mementos, or planning guide to store away or for my children to keep in storage! I continued to protest that I had been sold a bill of goods, two urns, and so on. Without question, both ladies did their best to soothe me, to explain the situation from their (and the company's) perspective. I was offered other incentives for family in exchange for "The Box": necklaces, pendants, figurines, soft lights, etc. "No, no, no! That is NOT what I want," I insisted, while they asserted that I was getting everything I had paid for, as far as my death wishes were concerned. I had to admit that hopefully they are right in that: (I am not dead and cremated yet!); still, "The Box" was a very sore point for me. I left it there in the office. Again, I wish to emphasize that both National Cremation representatives in that office were wonderful. They honestly tried to help me. On the other hand, may I suggest that in the future before asking for signage and initialization of the various necessary documents, the seminar leader make sure that the customer understands more clearly that "The Box" will be sent to the customer immediately, not to the family at the time of "need." Perhaps I was not paying close enough attention, or perhaps I simply did not want to hear what she was saying; still, I think a point should be made to do a more complete explanation. I did, indeed, initialize the paper that I would be receiving something in the mail in a few days, but I thought that it was an envelope containing a valid copy of the papers which I had signed. My dad passed in March and we used another company first but when checking with them were very disappointed so I initially called National with questions and spoke with Dena. She was knowledgeable and kind. She answered my questions and said to come by and see her. Within 20 mins we were there and she began the process of telling us all the things we didn't want to know. Dena took the time to answer our questions and even share some stories to calm us. She offered for us to take a look at the facility to put us at ease and began the process of getting my dad moved from the other facility. She stayed in contact with my mom every step of the way letting us know when they took possession of his body and when he was actually in their facility. Dena did not push anything on us but gave us facts! I cannot thank her enough for treating my mom and I and my dad's remains with respect through this whole process! The costs was more than other places but to have the piece of mind that we did, entrusting Dena and National with such an honorable task was the best decision we made! read more
