I've been in here many times. I had my car stolen from right in front of this tower, years ago. And one of my good friends (Candy) works inside here. I think she reads my reviews sometimes. Hi Candy! Have a great work day! How's the baby!? I come to this building fairly regularly for business and pleasure ... such as to see the baby! Anyway. It's absolutely gorgeous. One of the most instantly recognizable buildings in the city. It's also one of my favourites. Not just in this city but in any city. Inside and out it's excellent. Just don't get too close, because sparks are often flying off the roof of this building which glows red, green, blue, and such, alternately at night. They call these sparks the "Electric Shower." And if you give a buzzing toy to a girl and she uses it to educate herself, is that an "Electric Deflowering"? Probably.

They've also organized parking in such a way that there's a huge free parking lot that's easy to use and in the right location. Swing Buffalo hosts events at Uki Hall quite frequently and we love it. The hall is reasonably price for rentals. The staff is so friendly and pleasant to work with. The bar area is comfortable. And the front room has additional tables as well as a pool table. Plus the bathrooms are consistently clean. The back hall is a fantastic space. Great floor for dancing. It's got a stage. The lighting is nice. You have tables or not. It has a separate entrance if needed. So it's great for pretty much any kind of event you'd want a hall for. Of course, I haven't even mentioned the food yet. You do need to make sure you eat some of Pani H.'s food. We're talking some of the best pierogis in Buffalo. My favorite thing is this beer, sauerkraut, bean salad that is so good. Uki Hall is a private club so you do need a member sponsor to go. But give them a call. They love sponsoring people. And you couldn't be supporting a nicer venue with nicer people.

Black Rock was also, burned to the ground by the British in 1812. There's so much more to learn from visiting this neighborhood, checkout the Buffalo history museum for more. For me, I come to Black rock neighborhood to walk the canal trail. Also for the restaurants such as Waxlight, and the other stores/restaurants in the Chandler building. Further down the street, there's breweries and other restaurants as well.

Growing up in Buffalo you often heard of a few areas - Allentown, Riverside, Blackrock to name a…read morefew. I didn't spend much time in any of them when I was young. My school was in my neighborhood and my sports activities (outside of school) were in the suburbs. So I didn't know much about these areas. As I grew older, I had friends who lived in Allentown, and I went to bars/restaurants on Elmwood. When I came home to visit after college I started to branch out to other areas as stores and bars opened in them, or they had parks I was cycling to. That's how I first discovered Blackrock - I would go to the parks on the water, and Blackrock was part of the route. The name came from a large black rock that once sat in the harbor there. They blasted that away as they were building the Erie Canal, the rock was in the way. But the name stuck. Blackrock was its own town for a while, but Buffalo annexed but eventually. As Buffalo grew it just made sense. Rich Products made its home here, and still is located in Blackrock. There are some fabulous old houses as well. It is also home to some great places to eat these days, Sun Burmese being one. Some of the many great churches in Buffalo are in this are as well. 1996

And, for an additional fee, you can go inside the lighthouse. Note, the first half of the climb is stairs and the second half is three ladders to get to the top. It was a really great way to spend part of our afternoon, and I'd love to go back again. Note: I recommend checking their fb page before you go because they posts their hours regularly.

When you walk around inside the terminal, more likely than not the sights and the feel of this place will start your mind wondering about what happened here when this place shut down... If you' not brave enough to exlporing inside, the lines and shape of the main building and the lovely clocks all around are reason enough by themselves to at least do a drive-by :-)

Come to think of it, this building seems just about haunted enough for that to be true. And if it were the Petal Terminal, well then it'd be a harmless Flower Market. Then again perhaps a Flower Market is a synonym for something gruesome. Hmm. Let me think on that one. I recently represented Yelp here at a booth, and that was really cool, to hang out inside it for a whole day. They really, really need some better Air Conditioning though! Lol. I guess the 1920s was pre-global-warming or something. I've been here many times. I've taken a self-guided tour (which I wasn't supposed to), I've taken an actual tour (which was free, because I know someone who knows someone), and I've even done a photo shoot here (for my first CD). I used to live about 10 minutes walk from this place. It hasn't changed much in all the time since I first saw it. Very run down. And yet it's so haunting and perfect that I love it. This is one of the most instantly recognizable buildings in the beautiful and remarkable old skyline of Buffalo. It towers above the East Side with its broken windows, it's massive haunting dark open shaft (minds out of the gutter), and its glowing clock faces. There have been concerts here, as well as ghost tours, but it remains largely in disrepair. Everyone and their mother is hoping that it never gets demolished, and is eventually restored. The sad thing is that once upon a time it was a truly great place, bustling and full of passengers heading to the other Central Terminal... Grand Central in NYC. The pictures of this place full of well-to-do Upstate New Yorkers getting on and off trains is very depressing. America has changed so much and not always for the better. It's one of my favourite places in Buffalo, and was featured in the booklet of my first CD for good reason. Let's make sure it never gets knocked down. In other news, my cat Harley just pooped all over my carpet. Scuse me while I kiss this guy. I mean clean the poop. Same thing really.

I am so incredibly happy that the Roycroft Campus has been preserved! There are so many…read moreinteresting things here! Of course, the Roycroft Inn, but there is the copper shop, visitor's center the antique store, the museum, the "chapel" building. There is a parking lot, but also street parking available. There is plenty of signage that will help you make your way through the area. You can wander through on your own but you can also book guided tours where you learn a lot of great information about the Arts and Crafts movement and the founder and the history of this charming space. Definitely worth it if you love art, architecture or history. The people that work here are fantastic. Knowledgable, friendly and love sharing stories. If you are in the Buffalo area, make sure to take the drive to check out this great and historic space!
