I have experienced deep tissue massages now for thirty years so I am not a stranger to the massage scene. As I have aged though, I thought I would search for something more satisfying to supplement my usual routine. Through my physician, I was directed to Sharon Vogel at NLC to address lymphatic drainage massage as a means of reducing some tissue swelling and for body detoxification. I called the office and was cheerfully greeted by the staff who made my first appointment in mid January. It is May first and I have since experienced (experienced is an understatement) ten lymphatic drainage massages with Sharon which in my eye more than qualifies me to fairly and accurately opine about the process as a whole. I have visited all three facilities and first and foremost I find them CLEAN and refreshing. Before entering the door, shoes are removed and if you don't have socks a new pair is provided. If you show up a bit early you can treat yourself to a mechanical beaded and heated foot massage (light plastic socks are provided for sanitation) After the first lymphatic drainage massage, which was about an hour and ten minutes I felt amazing. I almost fell asleep during the gentle process which never happened to me during deep tissue work. Seriously, I thought I wasn't reaching the ground as I walked out of the comfortable and relaxing room. It was a healthy feeling. MY results were immediate and incredibly the relaxed state lasted the remainder of the day. I felt the detox goal worked as the following the day my urine was darker than usual. This occurs after all of my lymphatic drainage massages. To me this is evidence that toxins are released. Additionally I have a better sleep and a feeling of clarity the following days. The NLC experience with Sharon is a keeper for me and I trust you will be pleased. I believe the other staff performs equally as well as they are hired holding extensive resumes and have received additional training to use specialized NLC techniques. There are value session prices when purchased as a package reducing the cost over purchasing sessions independently. I am soon finishing my second package of six. My favorite facilities are Hinsdale (Main) and Downers Grove. I believe Joliet is more a satellite facility but the same staff participates on different days. read more

I am so grateful that I found the amazing people here at NLC! Because of Nick and Sharon the inflammation, pain and other symptoms that I have been experiencing due to MS is finally improving! That being said- there are quite a few different treatments to choose from at NLC. Just know that at your first session you can have an in-person assessment to review your health history and goals. If you are dealing with multiple concerns and need advice regarding the best treatments -ask Sharon. She's brilliant and is known for her vast experience working with complex illnesses and co-occurring disorders. Her greatest strength may be in her ability to listen and figure out the core of the problem to then determine what need to be treated first. Sharon is an expert in dealing with symptoms that are difficult to resolve. Her experience ranges from working with patients who are dealing with acute stress, recurrent or chronic illness, inflammation and pain to problems sleeping. She really knows what works because she's basically seen and treated everything. If you have a complicated concern you might want to try a myofascial release with her to start- it really helps the body start to reset and heal. In my experience, the combination of medical lymphatic drainage massage and light therapy treatments really helped to relieve resistant spasticity and pain. Go see Nick for this treatment because his clients are consistently sharing amazing results of long-standing symptoms resolving. Overall, all of the staff I've met at NLC go out of their way to help and are very caring and knowledgeable. National lymphatic center is literally amazing. The staff is all so welcoming, the facility is very clean, and the parking situation is also great. I receive lymphatic drainage massages from Abdul and I swear I feel like a million dollars after. I do have an autoimmune disease that causes me to create a lot of acidity for me. After we finish each session I feel as fresh as can be. My body feels way more fluid and less stiff. I am so happy I found this facility, Sharon is also so fantastic and very sweet. My experience with Dr. Abdu was very beneficial. He is knowledgeable, professional, and caring. After an abdominal procedure there was a lot of swelling. After 4 visits there was a noticeably improvement in the swelling. I wish I could continue with the recommended regimen though the cancellation policy is not accommodating. I arrived at a scheduled procedure and did not feel well. I went to the emergency room. My appt time had not started and I did not receive the service for that day. when asked the owner about rescheduling she informed me that due to the "48hr cancellation policy and Dr. Abdu already being, paid I could not reschedule". I will be booking with another facility to continue regimen as I cannot afford another costly penalty if there is an unforeseen event. I will miss Dr. Abdu! read more

Before having a double mastectomy, my surgeon mentioned lymphedema being a possible post-surgery complication. Although I was told that I was low-risk, the more I looked into it, the more certain I was that I wanted to eliminate any risk of developing lymphedema. About 30 days before surgery, I started seeing Sharon (and Abdu) and it has been almost 30 days since my surgery. Even pre-surgery, I could not believe how much fluid and tension I was retaining and how after my sessions, how less swollen my body appeared. I believe that my visits with at the National Lymphatic Centers have been instrumental in my recovery - not only did I not have any complications but all of my doctors have commented on how quickly I have healed. The entrance is welcoming and waiting area is relaxing. You have to take your shoes off (I opted to wear to the bathroom). You are offered tea which is nice. Sharon has a nice demeanor, sometimes a little difficult to communicate with. The main thing I was looking for was a smooth sailing Brazilian wax. I have gone to Uni K Wax in Florida so I had an idea of what I could expect elsewhere. My experience at Blissful was not as pleasant. The wax comes out of a heated applicator which is applied directly onto the skin. That made me weary of whether the application was sanitary since I was used to a hard wax using a disposable wood stick. The wax was REALLY hot on my skin, and when the applicator cooled and then applied, the wax tugged painfully hard at my hair! The room is also kind of dark, not good lighting (on purpose I suppose). When I got home, there were a lot of missed hairs, not very well cleaned up as I would expect...I would think tweezers would have been used to finish the job, but they were not. The cool rocks were a nice touch and did help the post pain from the removal. read more

I'm a bit of a massage snob, but I have to say, this truly was the most relaxing experience of my life. My fiance and I bought the couples massage package off of groupon, with 1 hour massage, 1 hour facial, and half an hour reflexology treatment. My massage with Mary was deep tissue, as I requested, yet still relaxing. If you have deep knots, she's the one to go to! Sharon did my facial/reflexology, with a soothing mini-massage with hot rocks. I'd never used those before, but was pleasantly surprised, and my skin felt incredible! The booking was a bit unorthodox via text, but I believe that's part of the groupon package. Scheduling for a couples massage was a bit difficult, but mostly because we have random schedules. I visited Blissful for a Brazilian using a Groupon. Sharon was such a sweet woman. She explained how she runs things and was extremely patient. I'm not sure what happened with the prior reviews. The room was well-lit, clean and Sharon was extremely personable. She offers a numbing spray prior to the wax and uses frozen stones and cold cloths to help with pain and swelling. Sharon has been an amazing resource. Her prenatal massages have been a God send! With my two pregnancies in the last two years, I gained an incredible amount of weight and retained water terribly. I thought the cold stones would improve the process so why not? The place is super cute. They sell all kinds of organic and holistic goodness in the front. In order to receive their services, you have to complete a 4 page form regarding medical issues, medication, etc. This seemed a little much just to get a wax but they do look at it in order to know what other kinds of services to suggest. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place to anyone, mainly because of the appalling dishonesty I encountered. After not being able to get an appointment, I called Groupon and asked for a refund. They said they would contact the merchant first and that I should hear back from both Groupon and Blissful w/in three days. I did, indeed, hear back from both. Groupon is always wonderfully efficient, but the email I received from Julie at Blissful was the same thing I've always gotten: "Let me know when you are available and I will add you to the waiting list." I should have been on that list months ago! But here's the appallingly dishonest part: when I checked my Groupon account, the Blissful voucher was "redeemed." I would NEVER go to this place nor recommend it to anybody!! I bought a Groupon for me and my husband for our anniversary. Prior to buying the groupon, I made a call to their office to make sure the schedule we want is available. I was glad I even spoke with the owner 'Sharon' and scheduled us on a Saturday at 2pm which was perfect. A few hours after that, this 'Sharon' emailed me saying she has to move our schedule to a different time because she 'overlooked' and made a mistake which was fine. After 5 days, she emailed me again, wanting to change our schedule into a different date because she again made a mistake and gave us a schedule on a Friday. On the day of our appointment, the massage therapist assigned to me gave me a call 3 hours prior our appointment saying only my husband will be able to be accommodated because she has an emergency and had to go home and they were unable to find a replacement. (they had to reschedule us 3 times because they made a mistake!) The sad thing is, we took a day off for our supposed to be 'spa day.' Having rescheduled for so many times and their unprofessional service made me cancel the appointment overall and requested for a refund. This review is solely based on the inability to meet the demands of increased business from Groupon. My mom and I both bought a Blissful Spa package through groupon in March 2012 and every time I called, they never had capacity to schedule us both at the same time (or around the same time) on weekends. I was told that they were booked on weekends through 2012! Really??? You have to book NINE MONTHS IN ADVANCE?!?! I think a lot of smaller companies have this issue when they utilize groupon - they cannot handle the large volume that follows. The owner of the spa offered open appointments with an alternate package which was less desirable. Supposedly, the full value of the groupon will not expire so I will update the post once we are actually able to get an appointment....hopefully this year. read more

I am always looking for places that offer foot massages, so when I saw a groupon for a 1 hour reflexology foot massage, I bought it immediately. Not wanting to sit on this groupon for too long, I booked an appointment for just a few days later. Their online appointment booking process was a very easy and smooth process. They are located right next to Starbucks in downtown Downers Grove. The train tracks are right there so you might want to plan accordingly depending on the time of day. My appointment was for early evening (i.e. when all the Metra trains are bringing people home from work), so it was a bit difficult getting here. You can park in the open lot directly behind the Starbucks. The spa itself is appointment only, so when I walked in, it was just me and the therapist. I was asked to fill out a short form and then I was directed back to a massage room. For this particular treatment, they had me lay down on a typical massage table. The therapist asked how I wanted to focus the massage (you get a choice of ears, hands and feet...or all 3 if you want). This was my first reflexology so I wasn't sure what to expect. It is important to note that the massage is done without any lotions or oils. She also used a peppermint scrub on my feet which was really nice. Overall, the massage was very relaxing and if I am looking for a special treat, I would try it again. read more

The space is nice but the rooms you get your service in is not enclosed. The walls do not go up to the ceiling so you hear everything, EVERYTHING! I was trying to get a relaxing reflexology but through my whole treatment, I had to listen to women get their waxing done. I could hear them talking, "bikini or Brazilian?" and I could hear each and every waxing. Not only is it uncomfortable but I felt like I was invading someone's privacy! I have not had a ton of luck on groupon massage purchases so I didn't have high expectations when I made my appointment. I was pleasantly surprised! First was my half hour reflexology session with Dr. Janet. I had never had that treatment and was surprised how relaxed I felt. Then came my massage with Sharon! One word,AMAZING!
