When in Wyoming, go horseback riding, right? We decided to do this with Swift Creek Outfitters…read morebecause they didn't require reservations and seemed to be flexible with the start times. The horse "stables" are located several miles down a dirt road off of the main road so be prepared to drive slow and have your GPS map downloaded ahead of time because you will lose signal. We opted for the 2 hour ride which costs $114 if paying by credit card or $100 if paying by cash. The staff help you get onto the horse and provide basic directions on how to start and stop. I was a little worried about this since I've only ridden one other time but luckily the horses are all very well trained and essentially just follow the guide horse on their own. The experience overall was nice, with the path winding through stream beds and through the woods. I would not say that it had awe inspiring views or surroundings though. At the turn around point the guide got off of his horse and took photos of each of the groups with the mountain view in the background which was nice. I will say that the staff didn't feel that friendly. As we were waiting to leave, one of the women stated that she hoped that wouldn't have to get off of her horse to take photos of the guests. Also our guide, while making conversation with one of the guests on our ride mentioned several stories about annoying guests - girls "in their western era" putting on makeup while on the horse and women trying to pick him up. Trust me, I get that tourists can be annoying but this business is quite literally catering to tourists. It didn't make us feel very welcome. Finally, I'm by no means a horse expert, but as some of the other reviewers mentioned, all of the horses are tied up, saddled, in the direct sun, until they are pulled for a ride. It felt confined, with a lack of freedom for the horses.

My nephew and I, first timers, appreciated Boots expertise and his patience. We began our 4 hour fly fishing experience at Jackson Lake dam (where we spotted a grizzly!) and floated down the Snake River. Just as fabulous as the fly fishing experience was, it was equally as wonderful to be floating down the Snake River through scenic, majestic landscape, and hear the sounds of wildlife and the running, gurgling Snake River. The stunning landscape is forever imbedded to a lovely memory. Boots taught us casting techniques, strategies and and tactics, and he tied our flies for us. He is an outstanding teacher because my nephew and I both caught, and reeled in, a Snake River Fine-spotted Cutthroat Trout. Snake River Angler services: *Fly Fishing Lessons, 2.5 hours on the water learning about casting, fly selections, knots, fish handling and etiquette. *Half day Guided Fishing, Up to 4 hours of Guided fishing on the water - 2 people per boat/guide. *Full day Guided Fishing, Up to 8 hours of Guided Fishing on the water - 2 people per boat/guide Lunch included. I did a lot of research and talked to someone here who explained to me that the runoff from the mountains this early in the season raises the water level so there are only a few places you can try to fly fish during this time of year and possibly have success. This company has a license to fish in areas that not all companies have so I booked with this company and I'm so glad that I did. We stopped by the shop the day before our booking because we were in town. We took care of the fishing licenses (but you can do this online) and were ready to go. We had Tim and Will as our guides. Will texted me the night before we were scheduled and we talked about what time to meet at the shop. When we arrived both Will and Tim were there to greet us and we headed up to the river. There were not very many boats on the river. Again, it's early in the season and it's tough fishing this time of year. Tim and Will were extremely knowledgeable and great instructors. Our family is very familiar fishing but have never fished on fly before. This is completely different from spin rod fishing. It took an incredible amount of patience to instructor beginners like us but they really helped encourage us and build up our confidence. Between the three of our family members on the trip, we brought five fish to the boat! We did get several more on the line but just couldn't set the hooks fast enough. I didn't really notice any of the other boats getting any fish except for one. I'm so glad that I booked with such knowledgeable and patient guides. I am certain we would not have had success this early in the season if we had booked with a different company. I highly recommend this company and especially the amazing guides that we had. These are really great people doing what they love and sharing their knowledge with others.

Got our fishing licenses there the day before. It's an easy walk from anywhere downtown to the store. Brian our guide met us there for our fishing day. He was great, we drove out and then jumped in his truck for the remainder of the arrival. It was July so the area was beautiful, still a little snow on the Teton's. Didn't fly fish, but we reel fished the float trip and caught a ton of fish. Brian was knowledgable, professional and fun! He knew a ton about the area, and we really had the perfect day. Highly recommend.
