If you're completely new to firearms or haven't shot your firearm in a long time, this is probably not the class to start with. Save yourself the money and frustration by taking a basic firearms safety or beginner shooting course first. This class assumes you already understand the fundamentals of firearm safety and handling. Range day is taken very seriously, and the instructors expect you to already know your firearm and follow directions immediately. One instructor in particular, Robert, is extremely professional but also very stern and direct. Some people may mistake that for being harsh, but it's obvious his priority is making sure everyone goes home safely. There is military-style discipline on the range, and yes, there will be raised voices if someone isn't following instructions. That's exactly how it should be when live firearms are involved. As for the classroom portion, Arvin is outstanding. He's respectful, knowledgeable, and makes the class genuinely enjoyable. He has a great sense of humor, keeps everyone engaged, and there's never a dull moment. At the same time, when it's time to get serious, he flips that switch immediately and remains professional. He answers every question honestly, doesn't sugarcoat anything, and explains the laws and responsibilities of carrying a firearm in a way that's easy to understand. For the price, I honestly don't think you'll find a better value. The training is well worth the cost. The only downside is parking. The lot is very small, so I highly recommend arriving at least 30-35 minutes early if you want a chance to park there. Arvin does his best to fit as many vehicles as possible, but most people will likely end up parking on the street. Be aware that some of the surrounding street parking has a two-hour limit, so pay attention to the signs to avoid a potential ticket. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. I would absolutely return to Nationwide CCW for future training and my CCW renewal. After talking with several friends who have taken classes elsewhere, I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences I've heard of. The instructor, Arvin, is incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, and takes his responsibility as an instructor seriously -- and it shows in every part of the class. Arvin made it clear throughout the course that we were learning things that could genuinely affect our safety and the safety of others, and he treated the material with the seriousness it deserves. I just finished and accomplished my CCW training with Arvin at nationwide CCW. I have to say this was the most enjoyable 16 hours of being a student versus being a teacher like I always am and I got to learn so much from this man who has a great sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge on the area of concealed weapons carry. To me, I think the best thing that I learned is that De-escalation is the number one objective of carrying a firearm. Again, like I said nationwide CCW is the best. Earlier this January, I took my CCW course with Nationwide CCW instructed by Arvin. I highly recommend his 2-day CCW class. Hands down the price/fees to take his class beats all CCW classes provided by other LAPD-approved instructors/vendors. Arvin is a knowledgeable, qualified professional with 30+ years of law enforcement and firearms training. He explains the complex California CCW laws clearly and in a way that actually makes sense. And he made it all informative and fun by sprinkling in his good sense of humor, while also providing real life scenarios and videos. The 2nd day of class began with the shooting proficiency portion held at a nearby private outdoor range not accessible by the general public. It was well organized for such a big class when I attended. While there was humor interjected in the classroom portion of the class on Day 1, it was all business serious safety-focused shooting proficiency on Day 2 at the range. We shot in groups from 3, 5 and 7 yards for each of the guns (up to 3) that you are qualifying for your permit. The last half of the 2nd day involved going back to the class for a final muliple choice written test. *** The added bonus... Upon receiving our firearms qualification and shooting proficiency certificates after completion of Day 2, that same day we were given the option to get the add-on of getting the Arizona, Utah and/or Florida CCW permit. Arvin provided step-by-step instructions on how to apply online and in just 2 weeks, I received my AZ CCW -- and BEFORE I received my CA CCW! Now I can carry in AZ and the additional 37 states!
