I genuinely enjoy shooting at Angeles Shooting Range and will absolutely be coming back. One of the biggest reasons is that they allow outside ammunition, which is rare in Los Angeles and something I really appreciate. The range layout is great, and overall I've liked my experiences there. However, during my recent visit, there was an incident with a range master (James) that management should address. My friend and I briefly stepped over to a table area where another guest was showing us a shotgun he had purchased earlier that day. This was not during a ceasefire period, and no one was downrange. The firearm remained inside the bag the entire time. He did not pick it up, manipulate it, or handle it -- he simply unzipped the bag slightly to show it and intended to zip it back up. At that point, James approached yelling loudly about opening the bag. I fully respect strict enforcement of safety rules -- ranges should be strict. If there is a policy about not unzipping cases at the tables, that's completely fine. But the tone and level of aggression did not match the situation. After that, he continued staring at us and pointing us out to other staff members, which made us uncomfortable enough to end our session early. In an environment involving firearms, professionalism, composure, and emotional control are essential. Being yelled at and then singled out creates unnecessary tension. After this experience, I looked through other reviews and noticed similar feedback about overly aggressive communication from staff. That suggests this may not be an isolated incident and is something management should take seriously. This review is not about being corrected -- it's about how corrections are delivered. Authority in a safety role requires calm, measured communication. If this style of interaction is consistent, I strongly encourage management to evaluate whether this individual is well-suited for a customer-facing safety position. Staff demeanor directly affects the safety atmosphere of the range. When we spoke to the front counter staff (including Carmen), they were professional, took our concerns seriously, and encouraged us to share feedback so management would be aware. I appreciated that. I'm rating this two stars because staff conduct matters in an environment like this. That said, I do plan to return because overall I really like this range. I would welcome a response from management, as I genuinely enjoy this range and would like to see situations like this handled more professionally moving forward. read more

This was my first time at an outdoor shooting range so I give it a 4 because I have nothing to compare it to. Went around 9 am on a Sunday and it was quite busy. I personally thought there was enough parking... but I suppose it could possibly get full. I wouldn't worry too much about that though. I bought a pistol target for $5 but that was super small. I didn't know at the time I was purchasing, but they have a sticker target you can buy that you can stick on top of it. It's way bigger and more fun to use. They stop you from shooting every :15 and :45 to give you time to put up your targets. They have you step away from the bench area and staff comes by to make sure your guns are on safety or something before they let you go out into the dirt area. You need to have ear coverings and glasses protection. The ear plugs are like $1 and honestly they work pretty well. The glasses are cheapy and can be a bit crooked lol read more

Angeles shooting range is definitely a great range that's closest to LA. Off of the 210 west, it's very close for people living in Hollywood, Burbank, and dtla. The range is easy to find, plenty of parking and lots of space on ranges. I've heard you have to wait sometimes as it's first come first serve, but I haven't had that experience yet. The check ins are very easy, and you can speed up the process by doing it online days before you plan to visit. The range is fairly priced at $26. Plus whatever you want to add on (targets, ammo, etc). Some places charge by the hour, but not here! The staff and RSO are professional and straight to business. Give them respect and they give it right back. Definitely good for both solo trips and with groups. read more

Angeles Shooting Range is by far the best range I've been to. And I've been to quite a few: indoor and outdoor, public and private. From "club" ranges that allow access to members via an ever-changing lock combination, to unmonitored public ranges, to law enforcement ranges and your average indoor 30-yard pistol only ranges. Angeles outdoes them all, with only one close second (I'll reveal that later). To start with, its up in the hills a bit, but totally on paved roads. They have ample parking, including ADA parking. Before I get to the ranges themselves, let me say they have a really nice gun shop, where you check in and can buy your ammo and targets, and a modest selection of gun accessories (cases, etc.). AND...they have probably the best reloading supply shop I've seen aside from the RCBS headquarters location in Oroville, CA! They literally have it all. If you're into reloading, you've just been informed where Mecca is. Now on to the ranges. There are three of them: rifle, pistol/rifle combo, and shotgun. I didn't see the shotgun range during this visit, but they advertise clay shooting, so it's probably equipped with automated launchers, etc. The rifle range accommodates several dozen shooters at a time, and has berms with steel targets all the way out to 600 yards! That's almost unheard of. The pistol/rifle combo range is where we went to shoot a couple of sporting rifles and a couple of pistols. It has a steel gallery on one side with steel targets at various distances up to 100 yards. On the other side, there are steel targets out to 100 yards, and wooden supports for you to place your target frame at a variety of distances. Very nice. The pro shop staff were friendly and helpful, as were all the range safety staff we encountered. And better than that, they were actively monitoring and running the range. Watching people for safety, ensuring safe gun handling practices, shutting down the range every 15 minutes or so for everyone to go downrange if needed, and actually visually inspecting every single bench to ensure weapons are unloaded and empty, with actions open, before allowing anyone downrange. I've never seen this level of attentiveness at a range before, and as a staunch proponent of gun safety, I appreciate it more than I can say. Their fees are a little steep in my opinion: $26 for an adult non-member, with discounts for seniors and kids. But Wednesday afternoons and all day Thursday, the fee is half price, $13. Go check them out. They'll soon be your favorite place to shoot. Oh, the closest second? Definitely Route 66 Shooting Sports Park in San Bernardino. This is my favorite shooting range. The staff is very friendly and helpful, especially Rodrigo and the 2 ladies at the counter. Their selection of targets and various range sections enables all types of shooters to hone their skills. They have a 22lr section, a handgun section and a rifle section with targets of varying distances from about 30 to 150 yards out. The value is also amazing because their prices are very reasonable. This has not been my favorite experience at a range. 1.) When we arrived there were shells everywhere. I had to clean them up myself while the workers were standing around. 2.) I wasn't a fan by how close everyone was and how the people don't all put their screens up. Their brass was flying into me. 3.) There were so many bees! Bees everywhere. Hard to focus when bees are flying so close to you. 4.) Limited shade. It was hot and the sun was all over my station. We called, and they said it wasn't busy for a Sunday, but it was definitely at my limit. I would say it's probably better to go during a weekday, so you don't get brass flying all over you from the people next to you. I might give them another chance on a less busy day. Staff seemed okay. They approach people politely to ask them to be safe, which was nice. I liked the metal targets. The ping were satisfying. Also the little dusty hill behind it helps you find out where your bullet went. read more

Stopped by here based on the fact that it had so many Yelp reviews. I have been to another range before (in Santa Clarita area) and it was very different and friendly even with first time shooters in the learning stages. My biggest and only complain is about the RSOs, specifically one stood out to me, based on a previous review his name might be James. Lean guy, about 5'11" or so, perhaps Hispanic, tatted. Just like other bad reviews state, I speak from experience, yes God forbid you make a mistake or are not as quick and he'll show up and rush your way to talk down on you, and I'm not talking about a mistake like waving your gun around or pointing it anywhere but down range either. I understand gun safety is an extreme priority and people's feelings or thoughts aren't important. BUT come on there's a way to address mistakes in WAYYY better ways. Very condescending. Aside from him I asked another RSO for guidance and he seemed lost himself, very quick to brush me off. Definitely not a place you'd feel welcome at and want to learn and practice while being a paying customer. Someone needs to correct that RSO's (maybe named James?) behavior the same way he corrects shooters. I doubt they'll get rid of him based on other reviews seeming to complain about him as well. My FIRST visit and already had a negative interaction with this guy that everyone seems to complain about. If you're into shooting guns and want to shoot them at ranges beyond 100 yards, this is the place you need to visit. This range has everything from a pistol range, to a range with 100 yards on the right side. The right side is great for zeroing your rifle. Then when you're ready to shoot the longer distances, the left side is perfect for it. There's 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yard distances. 100, 200 are good for paper targets. I think on certain days 300 paper targets can be done. 300 yards and past it are all steel targets. The service is quick at the beginning so long as you can finish you're paperwork quick. It's not pricey at all. If you enjoy shooting, you need to check this place out. read more

I visited Angeles Range recently. I considered it a decent range & a fun place to shoot. I only use the pistol range. But there has been a change in the steel targets & it's not a good one. The larger 35-yard targets have been replaced with smaller ones that are much more difficult to hit. I have brought new shooters to the range & they were unable to hit any of the targets. Shooting steel targets is only fun when you're able to hit some of them & small targets at 35 yards with a handgun is much-too difficult even for skilled shooters. The cost savings may be offset by greatly-reduced attendance. read more

This is our favorite shooting range in LA. Angeles Shooting Range sits in a beautiful valley with a big enough ranges to accommodate many shooters. From older adults to young adults, everyone is welcome. Our children enjoy shooting at the ranges. The staff could be nicer though. I get it, it's a shooting range so they have to act tough but being tough can also be friendly and courteous. We like that they have iron targets for hand guns and riffles. We also appreciate that they stick to rules and keep everyone safe. I don't have knowledge of other ranges in the area but for $26 a day for adults, I think it's affordable. You. An also register online or they have the forms ready there as well. They do have 2 restrooms 1 for women, 1 for men. Plenty of parking available. read more

Visited once to get a feel for the place. The drive up here is quite relaxing and nestled up in Kagel Canyon. Compared to Oak Tree, Angeles has a lot more space and there's no specific lane numbers assigned. The steel targets were a bit further out compared to Oak Tree, but I could see how it would be great for rifles and longer distance shooting. I've also heard they have a shop with consignment stuff, which I'll definitely have to peruse next time! read more

My favorite outdoor range in the LA area. I live in the middle of Los Angeles and the closest ranges to me are all indoor which I am not a fan of. Angeles shooting ranges is longer of a drive than I would prefer but it is a great range. I usually go on Thursdays when it's only around $13 for the whole day which is an amazing price. The only thing is you can't rent any guns here and you have to bring your own equipment. You CAN bring your own targets and ammo which I'd recommend since you can probably find them cheaper than the range. You are also able to bring your own steel targets or stand up targets so don't pay the ridiculous $5 for a piece of cardboard they give you that already has a bunch of bullet holes in it, just take your own. I also enjoy how the staff are on it, they are constantly checking on people making sure they are following the rules and keeping safety a priority. read more

There is guy here that is VERY rude and ck descending to patrons that pay for him to be employed. He is on the taller, thinner side, approximately in his late 30s to mid 40s, short beard, possible a 5 o'clock shadow with a slight hunch back. I have been here 3 times and all 3 times he is rude and disrespectful not only to me but to everyone except attractive women. I will come back when I hear that he is gone. Am I allowed to give 6 stars?!? My wife and I always enjoy ourselves at the range but today we had service above and beyond. I bought a new rifle and put on a laser dot site on it and was "trying" to get it zeroed in with no luck when Angel came up and asked if I was trying to get the sight set and I said yeah and he asked if he could help. Like always happens i forgot my Leatherman tool but Angel ran out to his car to get his tools. He had me shoot a couple rounds, he made adjustments, I shot a couple more, a couple more turns and then I was hitting dead center. It was so dialed in that even my wife who oftentimes has a hard time hitting the broad side of a barn was hitting the farthest targets. I hope his manager's know how quality of a guy Angel is. I guess I'd take back my 6th star because we did shoot clays and it only worked about 75% of the time but I'll give the star back because when I went into the office to check out I told them about the malfunctions and she gave me half of the money for the clays back even though I didn't ask for it. She apologized with a big smile and couldn't have been nicer. Great way to start a Saturday. read more

I really like being able to shoot my rifles up to 600 yards. It does make it interesting. I always feel safe here and like the layout. Ammo is ridiculously expensive right now because of all the wars going on so it's hard to shoot as much I'd like. I wish the entrance fee was a bit cheaper. My only gripe is that one of the front ladies has a stick up her a$$. I don't know if she's always like that but she's visibly annoyed that you're there to register and pay. It's easy to brush off after a few rounds down range but it's not something you want to experience on your day off. read more

I have been coming to Angeles shooting range for some years. I have always had a great time. Staff is friendly in the front office and on the rifle and pistol range. But make sure to check out their range rules before you head on in. I have seen their rules change from year to year. I want to say one thing about the Range Safety Officers and all the reviews on ASR. This is a place of guns!They make sure to keep everyone safe on the Rifle and Pistol Range, people who are being all sensitive in getting yelled at, or being chewed out do not know what the situation with the customer and are quick to write a review about them or themselves. As for customers in the reviews saying the RSO's think they are know it alls, the staff do not know RSO and their training or backgrounds . I myself have had a muzzle pointed at me and one of the older RSO staff members spoke with the customer noting where that gentleman should point his handgun and where to point it in a safe manner. read more

I took my friend there over the weekend, and she stepped into the yellow line area during the ceasefire. This staff member came up and yelled at her for several minutes using completely unnecessary bad language. I've been shooting for over 10 years and I understand that safety rules are important, but humiliating a beginner? I've only been here twice, but every time I come it has always been a very great place to learn. Whenever I go I bring a signed waiver, eye protection, and a good pair of earmuffs. Additionally, per the website they don't rent, so bring your firearm and ammo beforehand (please make sure you have the ammo). After having the required items, you'll go into the actual range and then prepare your firearm. They also offer a paper target to track what you shoot if that's what you want. My experience here has always been pleasant. I shoot the metal targets there's always a split-second delay between the shot and the sound of the metal being shot (if you hit it). This practice is great for hand-eye coordination and sometimes you'll be surprised at how heavy the firearm if and how much recoil it can give you. I've learned so much about firearms at this place and will be definitely be coming back to learn more. This range sometimes reminds me of fireworks and with that being said, the earmuffs are really important because there might be a small second that you take off the earmuffs, and then a trigger is pulled and your ears might get a hear the full sound of it or for me a "clearing". Overall, a great place to practice using firearms. There's plenty of parking since it's on dirt. Once you understand the rhythm of the place, you'll enjoy the safety of it. read more

Been coming to this range consistently for the better part of ten years. Long enough to see price increases of over 100%, the snuffing of returnable target stands, and many policy changes. The reason I finally decided to make a post was due to an aggressive employee that has no business in a public-facing role. Staff, for the most part, are typically courteous and safety conscious. However, one employee named James, I believe, needs serious people skills training. I have witnessed, and been on the receiving end, of his belittling and condescending tone. The only time you ever see RSOs yelling at people is when they break major safety rules, as it should be. This is a gun range after all. But this tatted up James dude lays into people like he enjoys it. This guy should be behind a desk or in a corner somewhere away from the public. Do better ASR. read more

Great shooting range within reasonable driving distance from the OC. Plenty of spaces and shooting benches. Friendly Office staff, very helpful. Yes some stringent rules but hey the fee is cheaper than most outdoors, and even indoor range (that charges $29 a visit.) Yes some range safety officers love to yell. But you can hear in the tone whether they wanted to do it for safety reason or just power trip (1 guy for sure is power tripper, can tell he's some tactical shooter/ practitioner in his private life) But for the most part lots of them are very nice and helpful. Got a stuck casing due to my California compliant fix mag (finicky and unsafe) 3 of the officers were there to help me trouble shoot the fire arm. Cannot thank them enough. Not many range I know that go out to 600 yards and have steel target for me. Frequent shooters there are also friendly and willing to help spot my miss for me, and chat about their gears. Here I get to shoot firearms from shooters that I would not otherwise have chance to try before getting into. Some guy let me shoot his ruger mini14 which I was fascinated by. I have been going to that range since 1965 something like that. I took my hunter safety course there when I was a kid. I am 70 now. My children have all taken there hunter safety courses there as well when they were 10 years old. Now they are 25,26,38. OK here we go. Today arrived around 11. Signed in and paid for 3 people. Paid for 2 targets. Went to set up. We unloaded all equipment guns out for my kids and all tools,ammo spotting scope. Parked my truck. When I got back to are space the range guy said swat was taking the range over and that we could only be there for 1 hour. The lovely lady in the office never told us that we only could be there for 1 hour and took our money. Well that was not enough time to do the work on one of the rifles I was working on and my one son that doesn't shoot to much could still get in an hour so we asked to get refunded for 2 of us and let my son shoot because he needs the practice and coaching. No problem. So I went into the office and got a refund. The woman there gave me a refund and my other son and I were not going to shoot. When I went back to the firing line space the woman was right behind me saying I can't touch any of my stuff. She took things way to far. In order to teach you have to touch things. Also we did pay and unloaded all our stuff before we were told we only had one hour. So She just came out to see if she could get me pissed off. I was cool. It was her mistake all the way for not letting us know that the range was closing in an hour. I am also a member at Moore and Moore and know Cory and Pat since they started. I think they should let people know when there is a time limit. Also that woman should have been taught people skills. read more

No point in going to an outdoor range if I'm not allowed to shoot steel case or steel jacketed ammo. The money I'd have spent on range fees, I just spend on gasoline instead to go shoot on BLM land. The cops shoot here though: they shoot from choppers, they shoot full auto. I'm sure they can even shoot steel cased.
