One of the islands, Hickory Preserve I believe, I'm not sure of the exact name, was awesome. It was planned it as our first stop, and when we arrived, we found ourselves to be the only ones there. There were beautiful, perfect shells everywhere: conchs, whelks, alphabet cones, wormies, murexes, and even unseparated cockle shells (I actually thought it was a different type of shell because I had never seen an unbroken pair before). I could barely take one step forward without having to stoop down again (I'm glad I left my sand dipper on the boat, because it was completely unnecessary). On our way back to the dock, he took us to see manatees, and it was pretty much the perfect end to both our excursion and our trip to Sanibel. We got close enough to take photos and videos without bothering them, and we even got to see two eating together (I think he said they were eating the algae off the dock post). There were just so many extra kind gestures that Carolyn and John extended to us, just top notch customer service and friendliness overall that made me feel very spoiled. Photos of our day were uploaded to a Dropbox account for us to download, we didn't have to waste time transferring shells to our bags because we got to keep the buckets, a thank you postcard was sent to us in the mail. He even gave us a safety check about the boat (which is a 28.5 ft center counsel, with plenty of room to move around) and where everything was in case of emergency. His boat is very nice with anything you would need. Ted catches his bait right when you go out so, it is as fresh as it gets. We had a ton of fun catching King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel and blue runners. Along with Grouper, snapper and a few others. When we got back to skin the fish, we had 10 Times the fish that other fishing guides had brought in! He is also very attentive, making sure you always have fresh bait on your line and is right there when you have a fish on your line to guide you if you need help. We highly recommend him!

During g this half-day trip, we tried 3 or 4 different ways to catch fish and everyone was a success! He was patient and worked with our daughters and explained how to catch the fish using live bait. The total experience was so good I just don't know where to begin this review. The boat and equipment are top notch and kept very clean and organized. We took off from the marina and when we reached our first destination, my son Ethan caught a snapper as soon as he casted. My other sons joined the fun and we were catching everything from mackerel, catfish, snappers, sea trout, and the highlight of my trip, I caught a 100lb stingray that was at least 4ft wide. Such an exhilarating experience for a first time fishing trip. Also, wanted to add that Captain Dave is an amazing person. So patient and kind. Took the time to teach this rookie and he was so good with kids. I can't say enough about him. When we finished, he fillet our catch and told us we could take it Lazy Flamingo Restaurant and they would cook it for us. So that's what we did right after the trip and I will say it was the best tasting fish I ever had. Literally a few hours old. I highly recommend Captain Dave if you ever plan on a fishing, dolphin sighting or shelling in Sanibel or Captiva. I will come back here in 2 years with my friends.

He met us right at our accommodations at South Seas in Captiva, which made everything so convenient. As a fishing fanatic with over 30 years of inshore experience around Sanibel, I had high expectations for my son's first charter. Captain Patrick exceeded them all. He masterfully catered to both an experienced angler and an excited preschooler, putting us on fish nearly non-stop throughout our 3-hour trip. We landed the complete inshore slam--redfish, snook, and trout! The highlight was truly special: Captain Patrick put me on a 36-inch snook and helped my son reel in a 34-inch snook. He even made a thoughtful gesture by letting my son keep the hook from his catch as a keepsake. What impressed me most was how Captain Patrick kept my son engaged and entertained the entire time. He taught him about the fish and birds, let him play with the bait, and found countless ways to maintain his focus and excitement--no easy feat with my 4-year-old! My son and I were on cloud nine after the trip. It was an incredible bonding experience that we'll treasure forever. Whether you're looking for a captain who will put you on big fish fast or someone who can create a memorable experience for young children, Captain Patrick is your guy.
