After hearing the hype about the chicken here, I decided to give it a go for lunch! While they may…read morebe famous for their chicken, I'm here to tell you the RIBS are where it's at!! This is located in a neighborhood with a small parking lot or free parking in the neighborhood. There is a small patio and a few tables and chairs on the inside. I would plan on taking your food to go. The vibes are classic and there are a bunch of fun pictures from Minnesota history! My boys enjoyed looking at those! The service here was extremely friendly and laid back. Kind of like having family cook your meal! That's a hard vibe to find these days! The food: We got the rib and chicken dinner. The chicken was fried golden(this is pressure cooked in oil) made for a nice flavor. I wouldn't say it knocked my socks off but definitely solid pieces of chicken. I am here to rave about the ribs!! Oh my gosh!!! The bones just fell out! The meat was so tender and the BBQ had the perfect about of sweetness!! I will for sure be back for the ribs!!! The mashed potatoes were ok. Next time I would get the fries. We also had the chicken wings plain. Again, nothing over the top special. Did I mention how good those ribs were!? Haha we ended with some mini donuts which were your standard mini donut but were delicious! This place is definitely worth a try!!

I normally hesitate…read moreto order ribs as a restaurant since they normally are a bit dryer than how I would like them to be. The Coop's ribs are tender, saucy and go so well with their fries! Would definitely come back to try more items! Wait time is a bit long about 20-30 mins because they start making food after you order, very fresh! Store is a bit small inside but there are outside seatings as well!

I participated in a virtual Nourush 201 Summer Series cooking class 'Black Bean Burgers' with Chef…read moreJess Delicious Toliver through Seward Community Co-op Nourish 101 program. The class was excellent. Very fun and educational. They provided the list of ingredients, equipment and recipe in advance so you could be prepared and prep in advance and cook along at the same pace as the chef and enjoy dinner afterwards. We mashed the beans (or you could use a food processor). And chopped the veggies. (chef used fresh, I sautéed mine first I just don't care for onion or raw garlic). Add spices (cumin, Hot paprika, pepper, salt, and sauce. We eat an egg ( or you can make Chia seed egg) and you could add breadcrumbs. We then mixed with our hands and formed patties. One can of black beans makes four burgers. As we cooked, host Lasked questions and also relayed our questions from the chat. Chef Jess provided her background and how she got into the cooking and being a personal chef now and trying to make healthy meals and promote wellness through food. She gave lots of suggestions on various summer meals and a variety of veggie burger combinations. And showed us how to chop the vegetables and provided the knife she prefers. She gave us tips on photographing food from above not the side (Check out my cool hands in the air photos) Made mine with black beans, poblano, peppers, carrots. onions, egg and buffalo sauce. (I sautéd the veggies with garlic and herbs) we baked the burgers in oven. Chef Jess used Sriracha. But she gave us lots of suggestions in how to make it your own. she gave alternates if you wanted to make it vegan or gluten-free or dairy free etc. (I am pescatarian). As far as assembling the burgers. I fried two eggs. And sliced an avocado, tomato and some radishes Topped with the buffalo sauce (use sour cream instead of mayo), avocados, radish, and tomato and served on mixed greens. You don't need no stinking bread. Yum. They turned out so good. And so filling. I'll be making again. Next time with garbanzo beans. Thank you Chef Jess! And thank you seaward community co-op /Lawson for hosting.

The prices can get high on some items, but this motivates me to buy produce that is "in season" and take advantage of their extensive bulk section. Don't forget your reusable containers for bulk staples like flour, oats, rice, beans, nuts, etc. My favorite deli item is the Florentine burger. I also really enjoy their selection of vitamins and personal care products. At checkout, you always have the option to "round up" to the nearest dollar, and your change is donated to a local organization. Last but not least: Anyone can shop at the co-op. However, you have the option to purchase a membership that has some perks. There is a one-time fee for a lifetime membership. As a member, I get coupons and special in-store deals.

I have purchased turkey a few times that has gone bad in my fridge before or immediately after the sell by date. I have a brand new fridge as well, so that can't be blamed. When you charge this much for turkey, it should at least last until the sell by date. I also don't appreciate how when you purchase a smoothie, they pour massive amounts of it down the drain when it doesn't fit into your cup. At least set those out as samples. It is extremely wasteful.
