This was not quite as crisp and clean and well kept and well stocked as the other Natural Grocers stores I have been to. There were many empty shelves on several items. So many in fact that I ended up deciding that I was going to need to go somewhere else anyway, so that I would just buy everything somewhere else. Yesterday (Jan. 22nd) Natural Grocers opened up in Denton and Yes, the parking lot was full, as was CVS' parking lot next door. What do you expect, it's a new place and Dentonites are a curious people. First off, it's a health food grocery store, so lots of organic fruits and veggies, soy this and tofu that and vitamins, lotions and remedys as far as the eyes can see, if you have 20/20 vision. Besides that they have your standard fare with ready to eat meals including vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan and raw, healthy beverages, buffalo meat, Bavarian yogurt, pickles, everything Annie's Organic makes, soy ice cream and bacon! As with most groceries of this nature the prices are a little steeper but some were basically the same as your Target or Krogers and a few items even lower. Haas avocados were only .79, and the spices come in plastic bags so they were also quite a bit cheaper. And they had some spices that you don't find in large grocery stores too. Cardamom and fenugreek were just two of the rarer ones. Nuts were kept in the cooler (insert double entandre here) and you can get rolled oats in bags the size of dog food bags, if you really need it. In the back of the store there is a demonstration kitchen and there were people out with samples all over the place. The staff was very friendly and always offering assitance. I believe this will be a welcome addition to Denton, but also competition to the Cupboard, the other health food store in Denton, but as Denton expands, there's always room for one more. This is my new favorite small grocery store. Will it have everything you need, like Walmart? No. But what it does have it organic, specialty, and non GMO foods. If this is something you find extremely important for your family then you will love this place. I buy a lot in bulk organics from azure standard but these prices are comparable without the bulk amounts. read more

When you enter, you are greeted with that health food store smell that I can never identify. I'm not great with mysteries unless we're talking about books, but I'll accept it. Produce is the first thing you come across and there is a sign stating they proudly serve only organic produce. That's cool, I can dig it! Then you come to the meats, dairy and ice cream and my brain starts telling me to get out, get out! The prices are much higher on grocery items than you will find at most stores. $7.19 for a gallon of milk?? $5.85 for a pint of ice cream? I didn't even know they had organic ice cream until yesterday. The meat was two and three times higher than I'm used to seeing in a grocery store. I also think $56 for a bag of dog food is way excessive. A straight comparison to another health food store like the Cupboard shows their prices to be less though. Sticker shock aside, I think this is a cool place for several reasons. This is a place that can easily cater to people with allergies, gluten free diets and is an especially good option for vegetarians. If you have any skin irritations or sensitivities then the laundry detergent, cleaners and lotions here are probably going to be better for you than anything you'll find in a mass merchandiser. In regards to the grocery side of things, their produce seemed reasonable and organic produce is a strong draw. We also got coconut water for a really good price as it was on sale, so that does encourage me to check out the sales on future visits. Though the bags of dog food were excessive, the dog treats were much more reasonable and I was really impressed to see only items made in the USA and Canada in that section, nice! My dogs are obsessed with the Good Buddy treats made in the USA. I have never seen a larger selection of vitamins and supplements- not at Sprouts and not at the Cupboard. There were aisles and aisles of them and they were reasonably priced. They also had a great selection of essential oils that would give Drug Emporium a run for their money. I was glad to run across that. We also found some great handmade soap that was a good deal. They also had a health and therapy section that included candles, Burts Bees products and a really interesting neck massager. I was glad to see yoga mats at a good price as mine is getting worn. It was also fun to see handmade Nepalese bags. They have a Community Center up front, opposite of the entrance. There are tables, a couple of couches, coffee and coloring for the kids. That's a nice touch, I appreciate that. I was also really interested to see they have a demonstration kitchen in the back! It was closed up while we were there, but I'm really curious now and plan to check out their website for events. Too bad they don't have a café like some of the similar stores, I would be interested to see their offerings. There's a decent Grab n Go section by the registers. When my husband went before they charged him for a bag without telling him the price. That bothers me. It's fine that they want you to bring your own bags, but let your customers make an informed decision on their own. When we both went yesterday, I had to specifically ask as they are not labeled with prices. I know I'll be back because they apparently have a bulk food section and I don't know how I missed it, but I look forward to those finds! read more

The store is wonderful. I've shopped there for a while and am always pleased with the selection of foods. However... Your hiring manager needs to get her life together. I applied for a job not long ago and was asked to interview. I wrote the day and time that I was told to be there down (Thursday). The day came, I showed up, and was informed by another employee that my the manager would not see me because she was "doing paperwork" and that my interview had been on Tuesday. I come here specifically for one thing that I can't get anywhere else in town. The prices for that item are always competitive and I appreciate that they always have it in stock. This place is fun and different but I kind of wish they had more fresh bread? Or different varieties. From what I've seen it seems to be all sliced loaf bread and not so much fresh baked. That's not a deal breaker though, they are worth a stop and I'm grateful to them for having what I need. They enforce masks and are a bring-your-own-bag place which is cool too. read more

They do have some items that aren't available at most grocery stores but because of their prices I've barely continued shopping here. A beautiful Natural Grocers! I'm from Colorado where they originated, and have been to many Natural Grocers, and I love them all. I especially loved this one, though! I cannot typically find fresh, organic, raw food when I am in Texas -- or restaurants serving this kind of food. When I was told of this Natural Grocers in Denton I was SO grateful and excited. I was pleased to see a really large and beautiful produce selection, where I could stock up on the things I needed to make it through my stay in Texas. Natural Grocers is an honest company offering clean, organic, beautiful food and products at a reasonable rate. They tend to be lower in cost than Whole Foods, for example, and their vision and message is much more authentic and proactive, as well. Cannot recommend Natural Grocers enough. They have fantastic prices, an incredible selection of natural and organic food items, a great supplements and cosmetics section, and really nice employees. This is exactly what Denton has needed! I grew up with the health food industry as my family's business, so I have real knowledge about what a good store needs to have, how their employees should behave and be trained, and what their prices should be. I love finding places where employees make me feel welcomed. From the obviously drugged out cashier to the overly enthusiastic floor manager, Natural Grocers has some of the friendliest staff around. It definitely beats shopping at some of the larger grocery chains and definitely has made our weekend grocery trips much more pleasant. I used to shop at The Cupboard, another natural food spot in Denton, but their prices way outmatched what I felt I was getting. When shopping at Natural Grocers, I don't feel like I'm being gouged just because I want to eat healthy. I know that this is not entirely The Cupboard's fault; they have to make ends meet as a small grocer. However, I'm not in a spot where I can pay too much. The prices are mostly right at Natural Grocer and the produce is of a very high quality. The store also has a great selection of organic and natural food items. My girlfriend and I are currently obsessed with the cornmeal pizza crusts. You get two in a pack and they make for a delicious pizza for two! The lunch meat and meat in general is a bit on the pricey side, so if you're on a budget, you may want to get your proteins elsewhere. Natural Grocer's is definitely a welcome sight in Denton and has been a great place to get our weekend shopping done without the hectic feeling I get from bigger grocery chains. read more

This place is alright, but I have to say I am SO TIRED of the turkey video. I can't stand being forced to watch a video every single time I enter and leave the store about "humane" turkey slaughter the whole month of October and November. Humane meat doesn't exist. I love the organic and vegan options here, but things like this makes me hesitant to even visit this store, especially since the blatant promotion of the paleo diet as superior is so prevalent. Having the video placed by the dairy section last year was annoying enough, but at least I could try to avoid it if I wanted to. Thanks for offering a few options for us at least. Can't beat the customer service. Decent selection of produce, nuts (which are competitively priced), every kind of weird alternative frozen food you can think of. Yes it is more expensive. Most health food stores are. If you don't like that you have about 15 other options in town. So the store stopped carrying your favorite guten-free, free-range, goat-cheese infused bagel because they didn't sell. Stop crying. You would do the same thing if you owned or managed the place. read more

This is our go-to grocery store. We love it! They have lots of organic veggies and fruit and good prices. Great selection and quality of produce. The frozen section has a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. They have the best selection of meat-substitutes in the area. Their bulk section is great and good prices. Tons of vitamins. Large selection of kombucha and coconut water! They have almost everything that we ever need. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They do not have bags so bring your own or they have boxes to use. Natural grocers is very 'Denton' and we love shopping there. read more

Finally got to try out Natural Grocers. I was a little let down when I learned it was a chain, but whatever... if they've got it, they've got it. I visited with the intention of buying some fresh, organic produce for juicing... and of course ended up walking every inch of the store in search of tasty treats and healthier snacks. I wasn't too amazed with size of their produce section, but what they lacked in size they made up in variety and freshness with plenty of organic items to choose from. Decent pricing on some things, sky high on others. Not near as affordable as Sprouts produce, but a hell of a lot more options than the Cupboard. Overall, good experience and I'll be back. I went on a weekday evening, but am hoping to see what all goes down in the kitchen demonstration area in the back of the store on my next visit. I wasn't blown away by their selection, but it's a great start and pretty damn convenient for most grocery needs. read more

I shop every Sunday. This Sunday, they no longer had any of the flax seed waffles that I love. As each week passes more and more things are missing from the shelves. When asked "did I find everything I needed" by the cashier. I said "no, what happened to the waffles, they are all gluten free, I don't want gluten free", my husband chimed in and mentioned the bagels we loved are no longer stocked either. They young man said, "if they don't make the company money, they don't get them and they send them back", but I buy them. Why are my purchases any less important than anyone elses? Went in yesterday to make a return. Had 3 bottles of sealed supplements and they would only take one. Said it's their policy that only one return per receipt is allowed. I have never heard of a return policy like that in my life. It's not stated as such on the receipt, either. If this is your return policy, you should communicate it loud and clear so that people know what to expect. Won't ever shop here again based on this one event. Ridiculous. read more

I went the day after they opened and while the parking lot was packed, the store is large enough that it didn't seemed overly crowded. In the past I've always gone to Central Market in Dallas for my organic grocery shopping so I'm delighted that I can now stay in town for all of my shopping. As far as prices go, I was very impressed. At or below other grocery stores in town and definitely below many of Central Market's organic produce prices. I also like knowing that any produce I purchase is organic without having to verify. read more
