When I got home and tried one it was uncooked on the inside and totally inedible...no problem. Mistakes happens. When I tried to return them, the Manager Lisa said they don't do ANY returns on marked down items. I explained that the issue wasn't a preference or taste issue; the item was inedible. That didn't matter and they don't stand behind anything that's marked down. She said she'd make an exception "this time." The $1.63 wasn't really the issue. I thought the store would want to know an item didn't meet their standard. We always wanted to know at my family's store. It's evident that the inedible croissants exceeded Lowes Foods standards. I really miss the IGA.

We love the produce section, especially the fresh herbs you can snip and take home. Produce is very fresh, the bakery is exceptional, the selection of name brands is great and their store brands are quite good. Prices are far better than Publix, too. I've always enjoyed their fried chicken and picked up an eight piece box today. After I left, I decided to have a piece. The first piece I picked up (see picture) didn't have any meat left on it; it had been fried off. I came back to let them know. I took the single piece of burnt crust and bones in and spoke to the young girl behind the manager's desk. She was dismissive, offered no apology, and no remedy. I felt sorry because if this had been my first experience with their chicken, it would be my last. Her flippant attitude is the reason for the one star.

At this Penland we had a chance to chat with the two friendly ladies at the counter. We received samples of their slushie drinks so as to make the choice a better one. What is Scuppernong?? One sample was that big juicy Black/Purple skinned grape Muscadine ... that was a winner. We browsed thru the store's wide aisles and finding items there that you know and want. A ton of apples and Penland history backs up this Orchard and Farm market. It will be a return trip in the future for sure.
