If you're coming here for acupuncture and don't have too many questions, you're probably in good hands, so I'm not going to give a super low rating, especially since I learned definitively that I have no chill when it comes to acupuncture. But I booked this appointment because their website services list naturopathy, and specifically under those services detail the process of diagnostics - and that's not what I encountered today. In her words, "if you're one of those people who wants to waste time with bloodwork and things like that then we can..." I am one of those people, and I really appreciate understanding the "why" behind my treatment at the very least. But I got a lot of vague answers (why are you giving me these supplements? "Well I'm just giving you what's in my brain," and heard probably 5 times today "it's FDA approved", as if that explains anything), and so I spent $280 to learn this isn't the place for me, when I never would've booked at all if they didn't advertise services they don't believe in. read more

I went to an workshop at Natural Med Therapies to learn about what supplementation and Dr. Perkins recommended doing a micronutrient test to see where I was deficient. Based on the test results, I learned what vitamins and minerals were low or missing. It is a rare physician that will spend the time to educate patients about what tests mean and why it is important to rectify irregularities before they can lead to major health issues. I was introduced to Dr. Machelle Perkins and Natural Med Therapies during a Yelp open house event earlier this year where she told us a bit about her holistic, natural healing practice which combines acupuncture, herbology, homeopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine. As a life-long sufferer of sinus infections, I was intrigued by the possibility of trying something different that might alleviate the pressure and pain, and was pleased when Dr. Perkins suggested some alternative approaches. The process of working with Dr. Perkins actually started several weeks ago with a blood draw at a nearby clinic, followed by a micronutrient analysis from an out-of-town lab. Once all of the blood work results were back, it was time to find my passport and drive over to Pinellas County and meet with Dr. Perkins. Her office is located along Bryan Dairy Road right near the intersection of Belcher Road, and diagonally across the road from the STAR Center of Pinellas County. By conducting all of the lab work ahead of time, Dr. Perkins was able to review how my body was processing the various prescriptions and nutritional supplements, and make some great recommendations about what was and wasn't working. She recommended a different multi-vitamin as well as some other options for nutritionals. She showed me a Chinese herb blend in pill form to lessen the impacts of my sinus infections, and I'll be anxious to give that a try in the future. I found her to be extremely compassionate and anxious to treat me as a whole person, rather than just focusing on prescribing one medication after another. We talked holistically about my health, levels of stress, nutrition, and general well-being. It was a very pleasant change from what I've experienced with most other physicians. I have now been under the care of Dr. Perkins for more than 18 months. As I stated in a previous review, I was skeptical about this type of therapy that the VA recommended, and I was unsure of the potential benefits it may or may not produce. To my extreme delight, I have got much better despite my misgivings and apprehension. During my last two sessions with Dr. Perkins, she introduced a new type of acupuncture, "Battlefield Acupuncture". Dr. Perkins explained how this unique process worked and the benefits it would produce. This new acupuncture is focused on pinpoints of the ears using special miniature piercings that are left in place for a period of time. After approximately 5 to 10 minutes, I felt immediate relief of pain and relief from the associated symptoms such as headaches and muscle soreness that accompanies my chronic disabilities and leaves a sensation that can only be described as euphoria or a calming effect. The Battlefield Acupuncture was tremendously helpful with my pain. On the following session, I requested the Battlefield Acupuncture procedure knowing how well the treatment worked. Dr. Perkins has been a blessing in my life to a speedy recovery from pain and has demonstrated true compassion for vets and anyone who needs relief from pain. Dr. Perkins has been treating me for various challenges since April 2014. I have seen dramatic improvement in menstrual symptoms. In fact, I no longer experience cramping, bloating, acne, back ache or heavy, achy legs before or even during my cycle. Nothing short of amazing. I suffer from chronic pain due to scoliosis and I've tried various treatments over the past 20 years. (I'm not quite 40.) I found my way to Dr. Perkins after the pain & muscular knots had me looking like a hunched over little grandma you see walking around. I started cupping and acupuncture treatment the first week of September. I have been going twice a week since then. (Minus the week H. Irma hit on the 11th.) Since then, I've had a dramatic change in my posture and the excruciating stabbing pain I was getting from the severe knots in my back. I was able to stand in a 3 1/2 hour line yesterday without much discomfort, when normally, after 30 minuets I would be done. I still have a bit to go, but considering where I started out, the change has been significantly noticeable. I used to get very deep tissue/sports like massages which helped. However it made more sense to me using the cupping to massage the muscles, bringing the toxins towards the surface, then pushing them deep into the tissues. The acupuncture adds a nice bonus because she can address your Chi/chakras and the additional use of heat and other equipment helps my muscles to relax even further. I hit the jackpot when I found Dr. Machelle Perkins! I've used allopathic medical doctors for years now and have found they tend to be over worked and not very personable. I get it, they see too many patients in one day (perhaps due to insurance requirements?) and quite frankly I don't blame them they must be exhausted. I won't mentions names, but last year I found a new allopathic doctor near me because I needed my annual check up and blood draw. I'll start by admitting that I am an over weight woman in my 50s. When I first met this allopathic doctor, I noticed he would not make eye contact with me and seemed to be disgusted with me. He could have been having a bad day OR he was tired of seeing another less that healthy patient. I was not feeling the love let me tell you. That was the first and last time I saw him. After much thought, I decided to try alternative/Chinese medicine instead in hopes of receiving better care. Yesterday I met Dr. Machelle Perkins and she is truly a God send. She spent 1 1/2 hours with me getting to know me and all my health care needs. She had plenty of time with me and offered many great suggestions. She was not pushy at all. She definitely made eye contact with me and made me feel like a valued patient. The compassion and love she shows her patients is something I've NEVER experienced and I am so happy to have found her. I first visited Dr. Perkins on a Monday, suffering with a recurring sinus infection. Antibiotics took 10-14 days to clear up the infection and it would come right back. Being new to the Tampa Bay Area, I turned to Yelp for guidance on an acupuncturist and found stellar reviews for Natural Med Therapies. Luckily when I called I was able to get in the same day which was a huge relief. After a consultation, I was treated for my back and other concerns. After 20 minutes Dr Perkins checked in to see how I was doing. I was so relaxed and the heat lamp felt great on my back. I went to see Dr.Perkins to help stimulate labor to help our first baby arrive. Dr.Perkins was very professional and spent so much time with me. She is very knowledgeable regarding the specific locations to stimulate labor as well as did some electric stimulation. Since I was so far along in my pregnancy it was difficult for me to be comfortable in any position and she was so helpful positioning the cushions to allow me to relax. Originally, I went to see Dr. Perkins about my hypoglycemia condition. I have seen numerous doctors, physicians, and specialists that pale in comparison to the amount of effort and compassion Dr. Perkins has shown me. Her relentless pursuit to find a way to help ease or cure whatever ailment you may have is phenomenal. Her knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as well as Homeopathics were extraordinary in helping with my condition. She utilized her supplement representatives in finding specific supplements that would aid in the battle to help control my Hypoglycemia. While she was treating my Hypoglycemia, a few underlying ailments showed up that she brought to my attention that may have been overlooked by prior physicians and doctors. I used to suffer from chronic severe back pain from a skiing accident where I broke some bones in my lower back.
