Today was the first time I stopped at the visitors bureau and it will be my last. I had dropped my car off to get detailed at Bodfish-N-Sons and those folks had graciously dropped me off in downtown South Haven where I had breakfast at Phoenix Street Cafe and then did some shopping. Then I noticed that my iPhone battery was almost dead and I needed the phone so Bodfish could call and let me know when my car was finished. I was right by the South Haven Visitors Bureau so I stopped to see if I could plug in my phone for a bit - "Oh no!" said the unfriendly young man at the desk. "That is not allowed - maybe you can go to a coffee shop and they'll let you..." Then a woman walked in from off the street and she suggested the library. I agreed that would work. "Where is library?" I asked the young man. "It's over that way," he replied waving vaguely toward the east. Well I went to the east and never did find the library. Fortunately, I stopped at Fifth Third Bank where Emily, the officer who helped transfer my account from Chicago to my new address said, "Sure! And have a cup of coffee while you're waiting." I can understand that the Visitors Bureau wouldn't have the facilities to help out with this specific problem - but the lackadaisical attitude I encountered can not bode well for anyone coming to them for help or information about South Haven.

Oh my Gosh, 5 Stars all the way! I'm so happy we came here during Tulip Festival! Was it kinda…read morepricey at $20 a person to get in, and crazy busy, yes to both! but would I do it again, yes for sure! We walked up and saw you could catch a big ol school bus to shuttle you up to the entrance for free, we hoped on and went in. I was very excited to see de Zwaan the famous Windmill imported from the Netherlands! The only one in the US, I think! It was SO beautiful! I got some great shots of the tulips and the windmill that I thought were just so pretty! Loved going up in the windmill and walking thru the tulip fields. Also don't miss walking thru the shops with authentic goods for sale including a whole cheese wall! With samples! You know some Dutch Gouda had to come home with me!

The windmill was kind of neat, but there wasn't much else for us to do. We got a little lost in the wet grass as I saw a bridge on the map and thought it showed walking paths nearby, but there definitely weren't. Wasn't worth the ticket price to us.

The St. Joe today welcome center is a convenient way to get to know what's going on around town…read more  Visit their website for more information and if you visit their facebook page they create events for things that are happening around town like the farmers markets.  Here in Saint Joseph we stay busy with community events.  St. Joseph today helps keep those events organized and lively.  Today was the chili tour in the downtown area and it was honestly wonderful.  I've been coming to this event since it started and I love it.

Definitely worth the drive to see lake Michigan and the Sand dunes. There is a beautiful boardwalks…read morenext to the visitor center that you can take directly to the dunes. It's a wooden walkway, with a ton of shade from the trees, that takes you through the forest directly to the dunes. The visitor center was closed for remodel when we were there so we could not go inside to enjoy the displays on this trip so I am looking forward to the upgrades.

We did enjoy viewing lots of fish and also spotting some beautiful wild flowers. It sounds like they have lots of cool programming for kids from fish feeding to fishing programs. There are informational signs throughout the area instructing visitors about the various fish and plants. Was pleasantly surprised by how well maintained the porta-potty was.

Wolf Lake State fish hatchery has programs such as fishing, planting, scavenger hunst, and much more. We had actually heard about this place thanks to a Facebook post. We learned we could do archery and it's free with all equipment provided! It's always been something I've wanted to do. We were lucky enough to not only do the archery, but also we were given a Step-by-step tutorial on what to do. Fun, exciting, and pretty easy when you get used to it. Just remember to follow the rules to have an amazing and safe time. If you do not like physical activities such as the ones listed above. You'll be delighted to know you can tour the facility or feed the local residents! yes this includes those cute little turtles!

They also have a school for kids that seems to be rich in programming. Three bucks to get in and the staff was very helpful. Only thing that would help would maybe more signage around trees. Going in, we purchased our…read moretickets ($3 per person) and got to visit with some of the animals they are rehabilitating/giving a better life. Our hearts go out to the animals in their center and the struggle they went through, and we are glad to see them living their best lives now in peace and safety. We walked and hiked around-there was so much to see! You will need some good shoes to walk in, but the hike/walk was not a challenging one. We enjoyed our time in nature and exploring the area. We wished we could have stayed longer than 2 hours. Don't forget to visit their gift shop and make them a generous donation. Their merchandise is wonderful and there is something for everybody. We would have happily paid more for admission-the money goes to such a great cause. We WILL be coming back to this.
