I had the privilege to change in the bathroom, where a gaggle of girls walked in talking loudly about making out with different boys and hooking up. When I came out of the stall, these young looking women were in their thong bikinis adjusting their makeup and deciding what they were planning to do next. I remember being their age, but I don't remember bragging about my sexual conquests. Are these the spoils of feminism? Objectifying and gaining body counts like some frat boy club? I suppose if it is, the beach is a good place for it and Grand Haven does have a storied history of late night cruising to pick up walkers along the strip. I remember in my youth listening to our CD player jam to Eminem and Chronic 2001 while we cruised the strip being "cool" and admiring people's car kits with hydraulics and black lit lighting. I remember thinking cut off shorts and a bikini top were revealing then. I suppose, culture keeps pushing the limits and I should just be happy that people are still wearing something over their private parts. Right? My family did love the huge kites. My children loved playing in the waves. Parking can be a bear, but once you find a spot most things are within walking distance including an interesting boardwalk with shops, restaurants and ice cream. Don't miss a walk on the pier to admire the Big Red Lighthouse and see if a lucky fisherman caught anything.

There's no getting around the price. It's expensive to take your car, put it on a boat, and have…read morethat boat take you across a large body of water with your family in tow. That said, crossing Lake Michigan on a boat is something I think everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime, and I'm thrilled I had the chance to do it in comfort. The staff is fantastic. The food is better than it has to be. And the drink selection includes New Glarus beers. Don't tell the brewery that the ferry company is bringing their brews across state lines (even if just for half of the journey). It can get windy up top. Bring a wind breaker. Dress appropriately. But whatever you do, find some way to spend as much time on the top deck in the great outdoors as possible. Perhaps the best seats on the ship though are the row of metal chairs in the stern. They are outside, but protected from the wind by the cabin. If you are a pro, you may want to consider carrying on a cushion to make those cold metal seats more comfortable. Milwaukee looks beautiful from the lake. While it may be more convenient for me personally to drive around the lake to get there, I am grateful for the experience of arriving by ship. Should the opportunity arise again to traverse the lake, and I'm feeling a bit flush, I would strongly consider another trip.

Everyone compares the price to driving and claims that the ferry very is so expensive, but I've…read morebeen flying all winter (MKE to DET to GRR then driving to Muskegon), and trust me . . . the ferry is WAY more economical and time saving. It's also more comfortable, soooo much quicker and more stress free. You can eat, drink, walk around, sit or lay in the sun with the wind in your hair. The staff is respectful and friendly. They only take credit cards for drink or food, but don't offer the option to tip . . . so please remember to bring cash to show the staff some love. My experience is that the boat is rarely late and they rarely cancel. I ride every week during the ferry season.

Property is newer and well maintained. It's not far from downtown, the boardwalk, and stores. Some spots along the river have better visuals as some of the weeds need to be trimmed for optimum viewing. Our spot for an extended weekend had an obstructed view of the river and the boats as a result of the weeds. Each spot has a fire pit and picnic table. The office sells fire wood and ice and other items needed for camping. Property is easy to walk and offers a dog park. Free WiFi that works VERY well. Best I've used in an RV resort. Pool, hot tub, and tennis courts are on the grounds as well. We enjoyed our time here and plan on returning next year, hopefully the weeds are trimmed by then.

Thankfully, what I'd noticed was not who showed up! The entire experience with Mike's Blue City Taxi was beyond expectation. Excellent communication, nice van, friendly, cautious driver and the price was what he quoted, plus he arrived almost to the second of when he said he would, and waited to make sure I was okay at the drop off!
