Green neon tetras

I've been to so many shops and this is hands down my favorite. I have nearly 50 tropical fish in my 75 gallon planter set up and the guy with the beard is super knowledgeable and passionate and gets me excited to be in there. Best fish shop in the LA OC county area. Puts all other local shops to shame with their selection. They even had some super rare Apisto I was looking for for a great price!

First of all, I went to Petco to get a beta and a small tank with a filter. I got cute little toys to put in the tank for him, andconditioner. When I was there; no one ask to help my boyfriend and myself, so pick the best option on our own. Couple weeks later, we saw that our beta, started to get discolored. When I went to Petco to talk to the workers/specialists in the area; they had no idea what was going on and just said he was sick. We had to research online, and I looked for an actual place that specializes in this is when I found: Nautilus! Long story short... the family owned business whom our all specialist; David, have the knowledge in aquariums, everything from of all types fish, plants that you can use to take care of your aquarium without a filter. How to take care of your aquarium with the knowledge of algae and benefits of an aquarium. Additionally, the patience and service; our priceless. I was kindly educated: on snails, gosht shrimps, and feeders that naturally eat your algae. If you want a good place for aquarium life, you need to go here! Thank you Nautilus!

Great shop, super attentive and really nice owners. Huge selection of livestock. Looks like they are doing some expansion work in the back area so pretty excited to see results, see what kind of stock they will have available once it's complete. Grabbed some super colorful rasboras for my sons tank.

This is Sky, met her at the shop and she's a big sweetheart.

My first recent try was to go the traditional route - heater, filter, bottles of water conditioner & beneficial bacteria, etc. etc. - when I unexpectedly happened upon an eye-opening You-Tube vid about the Walstad method (less homework & a more natural environment, the way God intended). So I returned all that other gear & am starting from scratch. Fernando eased My initial anxiety arriving as a total tank newbie, and gave Me a tour of the various low-maintenance plants I could start My nitrogen cycling with. Nolan - the Captain of this aquarium supplies ship - answered every one of My questions with patience & grace, did not talk down to Me or make Me feel stupid, and I left feeling happily hopeful that I might actually be successful in creating a fish-friendly safe & healthy environment. I am already envisioning My future fishy tenants, plus a snail & a sucker fish or two. Wish Me luck!! :-)

As I was checking out, my daughter noticed a little orange goldfish toy and started crying because she wanted it. I asked Nolan how much he wanted for it, and instead of charging me, he smiled and said we could have it for free. That simple act made my daughter's day and meant a lot to us. It's rare to find businesses that go out of their way to show kindness like that. I'll definitely be coming back for more fish and highly recommend Nolan's Aquarium to anyone looking for healthy fish and excellent customer service.

I no longer have an aquarium, but I still love the fish and what I really love is coral. This store is the best salt water store I have ever been to. They have a vast selection of fish and they are healthy and the prices are fair--know that salt water fish are not cheap. They also have great service and if there is a fish you want that they don't have they can likely get it for you. They also have the best selection of coral I have ever seen at a store and they even have some live coral (most stores sell dead coral). This is what I was looking for. I just wanted a piece of blue coral and they had it and I bought it. They also have an online store that has a great selection. The place is family owned and parking is easy. They know everything and will help you so go there.

Jessee was super nice in explaining their shipping process and the difference between their warehouse vs retail availability but that they could mix them for shipping. I ended up adding a couple inverts to my order to try and offset shipping costs and recently received my new pets. Everything was shipped very well, it was getting cold here in Houston and the heat pack provided remained warm so my tropical pets were still in a good temp range when they arrived. All my pets acclimated well and have seemingly adjusted to life with me so far. I'm hoping I'll be able to visit the store front itself next time I'm back in LA!

They also clearly know what they're doing. The staff is knowledgeable and can answer questions without giving you that blank stare you sometimes get at other aquarium shops. But the pricing is honestly kind of shocking. A lot of their equipment is outrageously overpriced compared to what you can find online or even at other local stores. For example, I saw a UNS double valve connector selling for about $60 when the same thing is easily available online for around $20. They also had the Kessil 35° reflector priced at $50, and I've never seen those go for more than $30 or $35 anywhere else. I get that local fish stores have overhead and can't always compete with online pricing, and I'm totally fine paying a little more to support a brick and mortar shop. But some of these markups feel excessive. If you need something immediately and don't mind paying a premium, it's a solid store with good selection and knowledgeable staff. Just be prepared for some pretty steep prices on certain items. Overall I'd say it's worth visiting, but definitely price check before buying equipment.

(Freshwater too!) If interested heres a little story... If not, just take my word for it and shop here. - This week I decided to relocated my reef tank for a better view in the house... biggest mistake ever! Everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong. I underestimated the weight of the tank thinking I could just get by with 90% of the water drained and removal of the sump and equipment, I was definitely wrong! I ended up pulling out everything, but the sand. Every coral, every invert, every fish... yes including 4 wrasses and a goby that all like to hide in the sand bed, I mean EVERYTHING! I then accidentally broke my rock structure into several pieces in the process of lifting them out of the tank and putting them into bins. Trying not to lose too much temp, I moved as fast as I could and used as many spare heaters as possible. It was a total disaster! After glueing back all the rock work that broke into pieces and moving everything back into the tank, I was unsure of how my fishes and corals would react to this sudden change in temp, biology and chemistry. 4 hours later, I finally got the tank running again (in it's new location,) I then noticed a huge bacterial bloom, Im guessing from the stirring of the sand bed. I then decided to do a water change to see if it would help. To add to my streak of badluck, I had no saltwater prepped. I quickly rushed to Age of Aquariums to get saltwater. That's where I was greeted by Isaac. He knew something was wrong. All I said was "I decided to move my tank" he already knew where I was going. I told him my problems and concerns and hesitancy to move my livestock back into the tank. He recommended several products to me, answered a bunch of questions I had and gave me solid advice. He also allowed me to borrow several containers for saltwater as long as i promised to bring them back. I am truly grateful. 2 days later, my tank is bouncing back. I had 0 losses. Fishes are happy and corals are all starting to open up again. Im leaving this review to share my experience with those new to the hobby, getting into the hobby and those who have been in the hobby for a long time. Age of Aquariums has both freshwater and saltwater (marine) plants, fish, corals, driftwood, and cleaning equipment. The space is large, clean, and you can tell that they take great care of their fish because they look active and not sickly. I came on an afternoon over the weekend and was excited to see so many people asking about how to care for aquatic plants, when to introduce tank mates, etc. When you enter the shop, to your left are tanks, decorative wood, and dry goods like supplements. Loosely speaking, it seems like freshwater specimens (including some hefty bettas, thank you for keeping them in nice big mason jars instead of plastic) are on the left side, while marine/saltwater are center and right. The plants you see when you enter are far healthier than what you'd find at big box stores - I myself picked up some red root floaters and an Anubias variety called white rose. I've been to many a shop growing up that were dim, damp, and generally not as well kept as Age of Aquariums. They really take their time to explain how to design a tank, care for plants, and what to look for in healthy fish. Really fun spot I would like to bring my dad to so he can upgrade his 10 gallon tank!
