Total Rip-off. Asked for a price to pickup and ship a 16x20 framed picture weighing no more then 5 ibs. $75 just to pick it up. He refuse to quote me a price on shipping it to me. But made sure to threaten a $25 a week storage fee if I didn't pay the triple overcharge of shipping. This pic was going to cost over $200 to get to me. I've been in the art business for 30 years. $15-$25 in postage from San Diego to the east coast is what it should cost. This MOBSTER is running an extortion racket by NOT quoting a shipping cost until he's pickup. By that time you are committed to whatever he wants to charge you or he's going to hold your item hostage until you pay up. He's a CREEP. read more

Highly recommended for packing& moving! I had a really difficult moving job. I'm out in California and I had to have my grandmother's mid-Jersey house full of curios and art packed up to be brought out here. Not only did that mean a really careful packing job, but also that the estimate had to be made without anybody actually seeing first what needed to be packed! Navis did a fantastic job, finding a subcontractor to bring everything down to Philly and then themselves packing it for cross-country shipping. Everything arrived here quickly and in perfect condition. Through all this they were great on the phone, answering my questions quickly and following up when appropriate. Beware if you ask for a 'quote'. Navis will assume you mean ship regardless of the charge. I was hoping to send my aunt's antique rocking chair to my daughter in California. We dropped off the child's size chair and we were told that an estimate for shipping would be forthcoming. That was a bald faced lie. We got an email saying the chair was packaged and was ready to ship, total cost over $500.00!!! We did not sign anything authorize packaging the chair prior to receiving a quote. Our intention was to retrieve the chair because the price was way beyond our budget. I understand there was a cost associated with the packaging, however WE ASKED FOR A QUOTE not toe have the chair packaged. If there was a misunderstanding, it was on the part of Nevis. I'd give it zero if that were possible. If you have something to ship and you don't want pieces lost in transit, and then to have the shipper deny responsibility, STAY AWAY FROM THESE FOLKS. I recently shipped an antique desk with all original hardware and drawer pulls. On arrival, one of the drawer pulls was missing. They denied responsibility, called it "frivolous" and "a quibble" and suggested I go to the hardware store to get replacement drawer pulls. As if this has no impact on the value of the piece. These folks have ruined the Navis reputation. read more

I have been working with Peter & Rebecca of NAVIS Folcroft since June 2009, when we transferred our entire household to Italy (surface). I thought the cost was surprisingly reasonable and indeed they took away almost all the stress from what I thought would be a complicated process. Everything arrived there on time and safely--and (thanks to a recommendation they provided) got back to the USA three years later. I am now (2018) working with Peter & Rebecca on another series of transfers (two children studying in Europe) and it is really comforting to leave the worrying to this ultra-professional team. The price again came out much lower than I had imagined, in this case for air freight. They have a great facility (very easy to reach), clearly communicate all the details, and in short they are the only shipping firm with whom I plan to work. Highest recommendation. read more

When I originally reached out to Peter, owner of Navis Philadelphia. Things were fine. Peter said my job was too small so he contracted with another company, Metro White Glove. I paid Peter over the phone and was emailed a receipt. I was shipping a chair from New Jersey to Arizona. The chair arrived on time to phoenix, was scheduled to be delivered and was never delivered on the day of delivery due to their scheduling issue. It was a Friday so I had to wait until Monday. Called on Monday to reschedule and they scheduled it for Wednesday. I then was called back that night and they said, well it may or may not be Wednesday. The chair is over 40 years old and special to me, so I was worried about it getting on an off a truck so many times. I found out where the chair was located and had to go pick it up myself, 40 minutes from my home. I contacted Peter, since he was the one I paid and that's who Metro directed me to contact. I was trying to tell Peter what was happening and he interrupts me and says, "nice story, but I need to take this call" and puts me on hold. He get's back on the phone and says "so what do you want from me". He started off very rude and aggressive. I had not even asked him for anything yet. His customer service skill are horrendous. He's a big baby, cries about everything. I asked him for some sort of compensation since I had to take a day off for the original delivery and then had to take another day off to pick it up. He said no way, that he was "doing me a favor", after I spent $600 to ship a chair... I told him okay, I will file a dispute with my bank for half the amount I paid to refund my time. Peter's big baby response "You can waste your time on that if you want, but I will have no problem confirming with your credit card company that you ordered this shipment and there were no guarantees on the delivery timing. But if you waste my time with this, you need to be aware that I will charge your credit card for another $100 and, having informed you of that, I will be able to justify that charge as well". He then went on charged my card $100. I called my back and they filed a fraud case on him. The money was returned. I cut off all communication with Pathetic Peter and he still kept harassing me. Over a month later Peter sends me this email out of the blue, after Covid was going strong. "Thomas - I am sure it will please you to know that two of my employees are getting laid off today because my business does not have enough cash flow to keep them employed. Congratulations, the $300 you were able to have sucked out of my bank account helped contribute to that. My wife and I are still running our business, in our 70's, not because we enjoy working with people like you, because we certainly do not, but because we need the income before we can afford to retire. Our income has dried up to nothing at this point and I am not sure how much longer we will be able to keep our business open. I hope this makes you feel great. You really showed me, didn't you? We arrived in San Francisco on a Wednesday afternoon from Philadelphia. We were there to help our son pack up his possessions for his move on Friday night to Hong Kong. The plan was that an International Mover would transport some of his possessions to HK and the rest back home to Philly. When our son said that it would cost approximately $4,000 to send part of his possessions home, I knew there was a big red flag. Our son was hoping that we would just suggest that he give his things away rather than paying to have them shipped home. There was no time to sell his things on Craig's List and also pack up and distribute things that would be shipped to Hong Kong. My son and husband agreed that it would be foolish to do anything but discard 8 years of prized possessions including furniture because of the time line. I started investigating moving companies that would haul small loads (two rooms) a long distance AND could pick up the load on Friday morning. After compiling a list of possible companies, I then looked for consumer reviews on Yelp and Google in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Of the 7 companies that I called, all but one company said they would be interested but it would be impossible to have a moving van available in less than 38 hours --- a week notice would be considered very short notice. All companies said they would call me back with a price quote and an affirmation whether the company could handle the quick move requirement the following week. Navis Pack & Ship called me back within the hour. They readjusted their moving van schedule so that they could pick up our son's possessions on Friday morning. When the agent realized that we were all flying out of San Fran around 11 pm, he said that the late pick up would cause us too much anxiety. He called back an hour later and said that everything would be picked up on Friday at 10 am. The price that John gave us was under $2,000 with insurance. I told John that we would pack up most things but some furniture that they would have to pack and remove from the second floor of a 3-story apartment that did not have an elevator. My husband and son were shaking their heads, as they did not believe that I could find a reputable mover that quickly. In the interim, I got severe buyer's remorse. Several of the moving companies called me back asking if I could get someone to be in the apartment for a Monday pick up. Some of the agents went so far as to criticize Navis saying they had not heard of the national company. The agents said that the "small company" would pull a bait and switch on us with much higher moving final costs than what was stipulated in the initial proposal. And the last insult was that the furniture would probably not be delivered in less than two or three months. I called John, our Navis agent, and relayed my angst. I mentioned that I had read good reviews on line in Philadelphia but not many in San Fran. John was extraordinarily professional. He did not bad mouth the competition but said he was proud to work for his company. About 35 hours after my initial call to Navis, two clean-cut men appeared at our door at 10:15. They had called at 9 am saying they would be there about 30 minutes late. After packing some furniture and a bike and labeling boxes, the movers had a challenge to get a very heavy, long leather sofa out of the apartment. In less than two hours, everything was crated and put on the truck. The guys were friendly, careful, and courteous. We received e-mail and a phone call within the promised two-business day window with the actual weight and final cost. The "rough" estimate given over the phone the first day differed by $200 when everything was weighed. Ten days later, everything was delivered to Philadelphia. Again two professional, friendly and courteous guys had a difficult delivery as they had to move the sofa down a tight staircase. They removed a door and light fixture. Boxes were put in three different locations along with the furniture. Everything arrived in perfect shape. Would we use Navis again? Yes. Why? Because when everyone said it was impossible to find a moving company and have the shipment picked up in two days to go across the country - they could handle the request. Their prices were in line with the other quotes I was given over the phone from the competition. Their final price was right on target. There was no bait and switch. Their insurance coverage for the move was reasonable. Their pickup and delivery was fast - much faster than the competition. And most of all, the company representatives were all friendly and personable. They called us immediately after the pickup to make certain we were pleased, they called to tell us when the shipment arrived in Philadelphia and scheduled a delivery and they called after the Philadelphia delivery. TERRIBLE BUSINESS OWNER! I do not understand how this company has a 4 star rating. I understand this is a franchise of a nationwide company, but I can tell you that the local franchise owner, Peter, is a horrendous businessman with deplorable customer service skills. I sold a very expensive item to a gallery owner in another state. The gallery owner took it upon herself to organize a pack and ship company to pick up the item. She and I agreed that the shipment would be insured and that once the pack and ship company took possession of the item, it would no longer be my responsibility. The buyer would assume all responsibility for the item and, beyond insurance coverages, any damage that might take place in transit. First of all, when Peter called to set up a pick up time, his phone etiquette was embarrassingly poor. The conversation went like this: Peter: "I'm calling from Navis and we want to set up a time to pick up your item. We can come by between 2-4pm on Monday." Me: "Unfortunately, I am not available from 2-4pm Monday." Peter (rudely): "Why not?" And so the conversation went. He initially refused to discuss other pickup dates and times with me, telling me Monday from 2-4pm was the only time they could come. He ended the call and I called him back and convinced him to please take down other times I was available. He later called back and scheduled the appointment on a date in which I was available, but the initial impression was already poor. When his young driver came to pick up the chair, he brought a contract for me to sign which put all responsibility for the shipment on me, the party from whom the shipment was being sent. The phrasing in the contract put NO responsibility whatsoever on the company for any damage done in shipment. None! I called Peter while his driver waited and tried to explain that the wording of the contract should be changed so that the buyer would have responsibility for the item once it left our hands and asked if he would let me write that in and initial it, witnessed by his driver. Peter told me: "I am not making any changes to the contract. It is how we've always done it and if you don't like it, send my guy back and you can have someone else do the shipment." And then, he HUNG UP ON ME. I then called the buyer, who again, is a gallery owner and has art shipped to and from her gallery all over the world. She called Peter herself to try to explain the situation and let us change the terms of the contract so that the responsibility would fall on her as she was paying for the shipment. This is something she has done often as a gallery owner. Peter was extremely rude to her as well and refused. Needless to say, the buyer/gallery owner cancelled the shipment with Navis. She was so embarrassed and told me she had worked with multiple shippers for sensitive items and never had someone be so rude before. She chose to have "Craters and Freighters" handle the shipment instead. Final word- I would advise you to STAY AWAY from the Philly Navis company! read more

Navis is the suggested shipper for the auction company where I buy a few items every year. After an auction in Manhattan, I emailed the list of purchased items to this branch for a quote. The quote arrived, I approved it. Turns out they had left out an item: they added the item to the quote and resubmitted. I approved it. The items were collected in good condition from the auction house, but, it turns out that more packaging was needed, resulting in more weight, so a 29% increase in the quote followed. I approved it. I also bought the insurance, which is provided by an underwriter described as "a tier-one carrier that is not in the business of denying claims", prophetic words if there ever were any. The shipment arrives (on a truck with a broken tail lift, but that's another story), and two of the items come out of the packaging damaged. I notify the office, and they tell me that unless the exterior crates are damaged (which they are not), we are out of luck. Time to submit an insurance claim, right, because that's what insurance is for? Denied. Follow-up point #1: Most communications I received from this Navis office consisted of three or more paragraphs of meaningless, self-aggrandizing sales babble. I was assured several times that I would not regret hiring the best pack & ship company. For how much they toot their own horn, they failed miserably in more ways than one. Follow-up point #2: My previous experience using Navis in a different part of the country went similarly, with a very large and fragile item being packed inadequately and damaged in transit. Except that they took responsibility and paid for the repair to the broken item. Bye bye Navis. I tried, I really tried. read more

I made the unfortunate mistake of hiring Navis and dealing with Peter Michaelson, from Folcroft, PA, based on positive reviews I found. I never leave complaints about companies, but this company is so dishonest I felt I needed to warn others. First, I was given an estimate over the phone and via email, and was told that once everything was at their warehouse, the whole shipment would be weighed, and that a final price would be given then -- when they had all my stuff. I didn't have a huge shipment, but there were a few antiques, a few paintings and pieces of art, and 28 boxes. I weighed every box, and wrote the weight on the box. I knew I was probably going to be over the estimated weight, and was told by Peter to add $50 for every 100 lbs over. I was 400 lbs over the estimated weight, but instead for increasing the price by $200, I was told to pay $1,600 more. When I asked why, I was told it was all the extra care and work they had to put into the job. But they had my stuff held hostage, so I had to pay. Also, while initially speaking with Peter (over the phone) before the contract was signed, I was told "not to worry" because they have "never had an insurance claim filed" against them. I was told over the phone that if anything arrived broken that they would cover the repair costs, but if I wanted to cover items for replacement (should they get lost) that I should get insurance on individual pieces, which I did (for an extra $400). When my shipment arrived I was immediately worried. The top boxes on the pallet were crushed. One wooden crate looked like a forklift pierced it, and other boxes and bins were crushed under the weight of boxes on top. (They stacked heavy boxes labeled "PHOTOS" on top of light boxes labeled "FRAGILE".) One antique frame was broken, which fortunately I had listed specifically under the insurance I purchased. That was covered (after much angst!!) But another frame was completely destroyed and not covered. The worst thing, however, was that they broke the glass on a valuable artist's proof somewhere between my mom's house and the warehouse, then REMOVED the broken glass, wrapped it up, and shipped it to me as is. When I inquired about it, I was told, "You didn't have glass on it." So I provided proof of a photo of the print with the glass. I took the print to two experts who both said they found shards of glass in the frame. Plus there was evidence that someone had pried some of the glass out. When I brought this up with Peter I was told, "you must have forgotten that it had broken before." He would not acknowledge that someone at Navis not only broke the glass but that they tried to cover it up. Accidents happen. That's fine. But they should have taken responsibility for it and replaced the glass. The young men who came to the house to pick up the items were quite nice and respectful, and hard working. And like I said, accidents happen. I would have been satisfied had Peter just covered the $150 to replace the glass. But instead he tried to pin the blame on me. The photos I provided were not enough proof for him. The eye witnesses who saw the print leave the house with glass on it were not enough proof for him. Instead the man brought me to tears with his rude, condescending emails. Granted, I had just lost my mom and was weepy. But Peter was so unprofessional and rude, that my husband had to take over all communications with Peter as we tried to file the claim. read more

Moving is stressful, and even more so when objects have high monetary value, as well as sentimental value. I hired a cross country mover to transport furniture and boxes, but I was very concerned about a porcelain sculpture by a well-known artist. The cross-country mover planned to put the art piece in a box and build a crate. That sounded okay, but when they arrived, they informed me that they would build crate at their hub, which meant that the piece would have had to travel from PA to NY before being crated, and then hauled to California. I had previously gotten a quote from Navis, and called them back with my quick deadline for having to be out of the apartment. Rebecca personally came over to pick up the sculpture, and left me feeling assured that it was in the right hands. After I arrived in California, I learned that the truck my cross-country movers were using broke down-- you can bet I was relieved my art object was not on that truck! Meanwhile, my crate from Navis was delivered. As I requested, the object was wrapped in felt, and then foam, and padded it out in a box before being crated. I even saved the crate, just in case I ever move again. Overall, very impressed with my experience with Navis. read more

The service we received from Peter was outstanding and highly professional. He treated the items with the utmost of care and respect, even though this was a relatively small job for his company. The price was reasonable for the amount of work involved to prepare fragile items for international shipping. I had been in serious contact with a company, who sent a driver out in a van. He drove 45 minutes each way for nothing. The large painting could not fit in the van. Waste of time for me and the driver. Searched the internet again and found Navis. Contacted them, got a free quote and started the ball rolling. Peter was amazing. We had so many email exchanges back and forth. You would have thought I was shipping the Mona Lisa! The day came and Steve and Ro packed and moved the paintings. They brought a truck and all of the right equipment to keep the paintings safe. They were personable and even called ahead of time to let us know they were on their way. More emails between Peter, Rebecca and me. By coincidence, I was in Colorado when the crate arrived. The Colorado company was also wonderful for my daughter to deal with. Paintings are in their new home safe and sound Bottom line is that I highly, highly recommend Navis to anyone who needs items shipped. I highly recommend Navis. We were in a fairly complicated, multi-state situation and they were extremely responsive, and very organized. They were able to get us an estimate and process everything by phone and email within 24 hours - and then when the items were actually picked up, weighed and packed, they ended up charging us almost 20% LESS than the estimate. So yes, they changed the price after the agreement, but it was based on actual weight and was absolutely in our favor! I would not hesitate to use them again. I used Navis shipping services for a small move from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. I had gotten quotes from other companies but felt like I was an inconvenience to them, especially for a small move. However, Navis was always very helpful and accommodating. Because it was a small move (a mattress, a couple of table tops, and a papisan chair), it was also harder to pin down a delivery date. Again, Navis was great with helping in this matter and was able to make sure I got my delivery on the specific day I needed it. The people who picked up the furniture were great with my stuff and were very quick. Rebecca was a big help and even after my stuff was picked up she followed up with me via email to update me on the status of my shipment. I moved with Navis Pack & Ship this past week and they provided exceptional service. I had to move across town and needed a place to store my items until I got the keys to my new apartment. They picked up all my items, stored them in their warehouse, and moved them into my new apartment without any hassle or complications.
