So this was my second time attending NBA Summer League and honestly it is a blast. There are two courts set up and goes on for about 10 days in July and includes both active and up and coming stars of the NBA to try out different rosters. This event is held at the UNLV Thomas and Mack and COX Pavilion centers. Pricing for this year is as follows (but double check on the website) General admission - $40.00 This allows you general seating (not assigned) in the non upgraded areas. Honestly, on night one, my friends and I were really close to the action so seats were not bad Reserved seating - $150.00 This allows for better seating opportunities mostly the first few rows towards center court There is premier seating in a lounge area for $425 per person and court side seats for $800 per person. In closing, I do not follow basketball all that close but being able to sit and watch live sports is always a fun time and I look forward to this every year. Vegas always seems to have unique things to do, so if you looking for a day of entertainment, I would suggest checking out the Summer League

Summer League is always a good idea. This is my third year attending NBA Summer League and it never seems to disappoint. FREE Parking at the Thomas and Mack Arena and General Admission seating is $40 with all the fees and surcharges works out to about $58 a ticket. General Admission let's you sit anyone in the area except for the assigned seats and the summer league VIP seats. If you want to get a really good seat it's best to go early, door open one hour before the game starts. I arrived at about 11am and the first game was 1pm and we got really good seats a few rows behind the players bench and get access to where the players walk into the locker room. They had 8 games through out the day in the two different gyms (Thomas and Mack Center and The Cox Pavilion) The best seating in the Thomas and Mack Arena is when you enter the doors go to your left or your right through the first doors you see and walk down the stairs as close as you can to the first seats that are available. Section 118 is my favorite place to sit. You are not allowed to bring big bags into the arena, small pocketbooks are allowed and clear totes and book bags. If you have a large bag you will have to leave it in your car. They sell popcorn, chicken fingers and french fries at the concession stand and other finger foods. Plenty to do and lots to see when enjoying a day a NBA Summer League. There are normally basketball players walking around so bring a sharpie and something they can autograph also it's a good idea to bring a back up charger if you plan on being there all day. Mask were required while in the building due to safety protocols with COVID.

Ah, Summer League! The time of the year when I can find more than one excuse to hit the road to Vegas for a long weekend! :D This event is an absolute steal if you're an avid NBA fan. One ticket gives you access to all games for that day -- that's 9 hours of basketball for a general admission price of roughly $25!! Oh and did I mention it's first come first serve on seating! Get there early prior to the game/team you want to watch and chances are you'll get a nice selection of seats to choose from. Players sign autographs in between games as well so don't forget to bring the merch and a sharpie! I've been going to SL since 2005 and while it's definitely seen its changes (less access to the players/coaches/front office execs & more crowds), it's still an amazing experience that keeps me going back year after year. You'll look back on the All-Stars of tomorrow and think "wow, I saw that guy play close up before many folks knew who he was!" Definitely a fun feeling. I totally recommend!

This is my 10th year in a row at the NBA Summer League games. Always a great time. Here with the family and looking for our Lakers! I don't see how the NBA would bother doing this anywhere else. This is a great city, great venue and this is where the players want to be. Thomas and Mack center is the best college and entertainment venue around. Seats plenty of people and has a great sound system and customer service.

So shockingly there isn't a YELP page for this, so I just made one. NBA Summer League is pure affordable awesomeness for any basketball fan so here we go. ========= OVERVIEW ========= NBA Summer League takes place at the end of the NBA Season, before the start of the new season. It's usually held during the month of July and is a chance for rookies and young players to pop their NBA cherry. It's purpose if for these players to get a chance to preview the NBA life on the court... (coaching, reffing, court time) ...to aid in their development. In addition many fringe players who WERE NOT draft or are not on any teams, get a chance to come out and try to make the team. It's a long shot but it's the last opportunities for these fringe players, usually consisting on NCAA College Players. ========= LOCATION ========= This page is for the LAS VEGAS summer league, which consists of most of the NBA's teams. Roughly 2/3's of the NBA's teams play here. The rest play in Orlando's summer league. It's held at the THOMAS & MACK CENTER, which is the home arena of the UNLV MEN'S BASKETBALL team. In side there's the COX PAVILLION which is a small sub-arena with like 30 rows on each side of the court. Then also under the same dome across the hall is the actually THOMAS & MACK ARENA which is huge, where the UNLV Men's team plays. BOTH arenas host summer league games,, usually at the same time with games starting within an hour of each other, allowing to to game hop. =============== FINAL THOUGHTS =============== NBA Summer League is amazing. For $25.00 you get to see UNLIMITED GAMES in both the Cox Pavillion AND Thomas & Mack Center. There's usually 8 games per day which is 16 different teams. Given that a decent NBA ticket is $75.00+ this is a deal. ALSO YOU GET TO SIT WHEREVER YOU WANT. 1ST COME, 1ST SERVE!!! So if you get there early enough, you can sit in the 1st row. (courtside seats are reserved / VIP) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nba-summer-league-las-vegas?filter_by_userid=True&select=ziCi0x1od97oT7QvwN9LDw&userid=1pgT-Eeh-GIOlhOgHMMRZA#i_wSvCVqKU1agRlsL53DxA Additionally you get to see young NBA players, star rookies, players coming back from injury (Blake Griffin, JR Smith) ...as well as MANY NBA LEGENDS who come to watch and scout. Some of the players I saw last week (July 2013) the one day I went were: ~ Ron Artest / Metta World Peace ~ Jerry West ~ Patrick Ewing ~ Larry Johnson ~ Tim Hardaway ~ Chris Mullin ~ Chris Webber ~ Steve Smith http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nba-summer-league-las-vegas?filter_by_userid=True&select=ziCi0x1od97oT7QvwN9LDw&userid=1pgT-Eeh-GIOlhOgHMMRZA#kCx30W8x0HBLYRav5P0QUw Coaches: Tom Thibadou & Flip Saunders... In addition, Flip Saunders was sitting next to me, and as we were leaving I got to ask him some Kevin Love questions. Also CRAIG SAIGER (TNT FUNNY SUITS GUY) was sitting right next to me. Last off... there's several current NBA players and celebrities that pop in as well.

I just completed my second year in a row attending the Summer League games in Vegas and it's great stuff. Great esp. if you're a more serious Basketball fan. The type who watches and appreciates the Game. The quality of play isn't NBA caliber, but there are a couple of players on each team who will make a roster. There are also a good number of players one is familiar with thru their college teams or from their short time in the NBA. I won't get into the games as much as the experience, for which I give it Five Stars. What's great about the Summer League is that it fills a Sports void in July. The league gets most teams from the NBA and really benefits from having the Lakers be a part of the League. Laker fans give the league an extra boost. The games run consecutively between UNLV's Thomas and Mack Center and the smaller Cox Pavilion. The venue works nicely for each set of games that start approx a half hour after one another. One can go between venues to watch games and the tickets are general admission, meaning you can sit in any open seat (with some exceptions). The building is easy enough to get to via cab, or for me, the local bus for only $2 from my hotel. Doors open up at 12:30 pm and the concession stands sell everything you're gonna want to eat. They also sell beer and liquor. You can step outside to smoke if you like as well. The league has a few vendors in the concourse. Fewer this past year than last. Yoy can buy souvenirs, enter a contest or try virtual reality BBall or play NBA2K18. There are at least 8 games a day between both courts and moving between games is no big deal. The smaller Cox Center allows for a closer view and feels for the games played. You're closer to the court and it feels more "real". If you 're really into the NBA, you'll see a number of familiar faces in the venues from current and former players, coaches, GM's, sports writers and commentators to owners. They're all out there, more so early on when the games first start. It feels like an NBA Convention and in its own way it is. Very cool. It's also cool that fans of certain teams come out and represent themselves. It feels a bit like the allegiance one has for their own NFL team when they go to a game. Makes for a more entertaining experience. Overall this is a great event at a great location at a great time of the year. For $30/day for tickets, it's a great deal. Oh...Parking is free as well and when the games end, you can always hit The Strip. I'm hooked and plan to attend next year.

It gets musty, smelly, hot and humid... I leave that place feeling sick and sometimes nauseous from the feet/armpit/ass/ and sweat smell. The people that run this place have no managerial experience ... They sell soccer shoes, clothing and accessories but constantly change everything around, one week stuff is there being sold next week its all gone, the week after they only have shoes???? Now they sell metro phones inside? Soccer matches are disorganized ... For example there have been times when the other teams have cancelled.. And we were never told.. Everyone shows up and we are told to wait 30 mins just in case that by some miracle a team shows up to play against us... :( also I guess some people here have connections to the owners and they can pick and choose who refs for their games... Wth is up with that?? Games have become invalid and we are forced to play again and are given bs excuses.... It is however more affordable then other facilities it's 5vs5 and it's soccer.. So I guess that's worth 2 stars

There was a big fan next to the bleachers we asked the nice girl who was working to turn on and that made it comfortable for us, but I can only imagine the players were dying out there!! I also didn't like that you couldn't bring your own drinks into the arena, like not even alcohol we just had water for the players. They sell water inside but I would rather just bring our own. The staff was very nice, and we will continue to go watch our friends play, we will just dress a lot lighter!

If you don't understand how a bout works you may have a little trouble. What I liked about it was the enthusiasm from the crowd and a couple of times the rowdiness of the skaters. There was a lot of lulls and not a lot of action so that makes it hard to want to pay attention to. What I didn't like was it was kind of hard to see especially if you were sitting down in the rows of chairs...so I actually chose to sit on the floor right in front of the rink which I wasn't crazy about. They play music the whole time which is cool but then the announcers try to talk and give you updates on the game and it's really hard to hear or understand what's actually being said. They serve beer drinks and even snacks but my suggestion is eat or get drunk before you go because they charge an arm and a leg inside the ballroom. You can't bring outside food or drinks in so if you go to the casino you can get a beer for two dollars Or stay in the ballroom and pay 7 to 10. It's not rocket science. I'll have to say it is fun to meet up with some friends hang out laugh and talk while watching something sort out on the side. It was their last bout at the Riviera as we all know it's going to be torn down so that was kind of cool in a little nostalgic. Hopefully the skaters will find a new venue to continue their tradition.

If you were ever lucky enough to catch RollerGames (1989-1990) on late night TV (as I did as a preteen), you know exactly what this game is all about and you can easily get hooked! On Saturday, April 25th, the Husband and I experienced our first real live roller derby match at the Las Vegas Roller Hockey Rink. It's located in the corner of the Commercial Center and can easily be missed, but it's there! Doors opened at 7 pm and the bout begins at 8 pm. You can choose to sit inside the rink on folding chairs, along the side on the floor, or safely behind the glass. Seats are up close and personal and they do promise the possibility of having a rollergirl in your lap! After the game, you can get autographs from your favorite players too! (There's a snack bar available too.) If you don't understand the game, they give out a handy little program with all the details, but the MC will also explain the game as it goes on. There's even a mini duel right at the beginning to give you a visual of what's about to happen. That evening, they played against the Arizona Roller Derby Tent City Terrors. Sure, we lost but it was a very exciting game and you never really knew who was going to win! Advanced tickets are $7 (although we tried purchasing such tickets the night before, but no luck), and $10 at the door. Kids under 10 and EMTs are free! This is definitely an athletic and family-friendly event, although a few of the players' names may be a bit suggestive. It looks like they have two local teams - The Notorious VIPs and the Tommy Gun Terrors. But when they play against another city, they combine into the Sin City Rollergirls. (Correct me if I'm wrong please!) The team colors of the Sin City Rollergirls are orange and black. We're definitely looking forward to catching at least one more game before their season ends!

I called the day before, and the staff member on the phone was very friendly and clearly explained how the token system worked. Unfortunately, our in-person experience was VERY disappointing. My son went through his first round of purchased credits, and only one hit (out of many solid hits) registered on the HitTrax. We purchased additional credits and let the attendant know it wasn't working properly. He came over and checked the machine, but seemed unsure of what to do and didn't offer much feedback. During the second round, only a handful of hits registered out of 18 balls. We notified him again. He refilled the balls and checked the computer, but never confirmed whether the system was actually recalibrated or functioning properly. He even through some balls and some were not registering. I asked about getting some ball credits back since we were specifically there for the stats, that's the whole reason we chose HitTrax. My son tried again (with only a few additional balls credited), and this time the system didn't register anything at all. On our way out, I let the attendant know that the HitTrax clearly wasn't working and likely needed recalibration. His response was simply, "Oh, okay, I'll work on it." There was no apology, no offer to move us to another cage for some x tra hits, no offer of replacement credits, and no effort to make it right. Place was empty mid day, so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed and busy with customers. After spending over $50 in tokens and having only a handful of hits register, it simply wasn't worth it, at least at this location. My son has used HitTrax at other facilities before, and it has been terrific when properly calibrated. The facility itself is nice, but the lack of follow-up and customer service was disappointing. We will try a different, well-rated facility next month when we're back in town!

We had an early 8 AM game, which meant arriving before 7 AM, and that's where things got off to a frustrating start. They were checking every single bag at the entrance, including the players' bags. It felt excessive, especially for kids who had just woken up and were heading straight to the field. Not allowing players to bring something simple like a Gatorade or a granola bar didn't sit right. I understand limiting outside food for families with coolers, but taking basic items from players that early in the morning felt unnecessary. On top of that, admission was eight dollars per person (players didn't pay) which seemed a bit steep considering the condition of the facility. The park feels pretty rundown overall. There was talk about future upgrades to the fields, backboards, and general facilities, but it sounds like those promises have been floating around for a while, so it's hard to know if real improvements are actually happening anytime soon. That said, the boys did enjoy playing on the turf field. I knew the bag check policy was super tight and authoritarian, but this visit kind of sent me over the edge. On day one, at bag check, I waited behind a player (about 16 years old, in uniform). The person checking him said he had to leave his sealed cup of Apple Jacks and little bottle of Milk but he could bring his spoon and water in. It's 7:00am and this is a player who is bringing a small cup of cereal to eat before his game and you're denying him entry? Absolutely shameful behavior. The next day, same tournament, I'm walking in with my son at 6:50am so he can make warm-ups. I decided to stop and get him a breakfast sandwich on the way to the park so he could eat it in the dugout while he got ready. He was holding the sandwich while also lugging all of his stuff. They said he had to eat it before entering or throw it out. I lost my cool with these people. I seriously give zero, ABSOLUTELY ZERO effs about the policy when it goes against basic human decency. The manager was called and I laid into her and her response was "he can always buy something at the restaurant inside. No...he can't because we did that the last time he was here and his food wasn't ready until after gametime. They didn't budge so I ended up walking around to the other gate and handing him his sandwich through the fence. The kicker here is when my wife showed up to the game about an hour later, she had a bag FULL of food and drinks....they said nothing to her and waved her through the line. The people here are absolute trash and treat their patrons with such contempt. 2. The fields: The fields are a collection of the worst fields I've ever seen in my life. Turf infields with exposed seams, raised 'repaired' patches of turf throughout the infield and "grass" outfields that are packed desert dirt with patches of crabgrass here and there. The "stands" in the outfield are blank, dirty painted (patchy) plywood with torn and folded old netting above. They look straight up pathetic. To think this place charges premiums JUST to get in is absolutely bonkers to me. These are literally the worst fields you will ever play on. The novelty of the 'replica' stadiums is immediately lost because they are just painted plywood. It's ugly and incredibly worn out not to mention, the fields themselves are simply unsafe! 3. Facilities: The restaurant area is worn and incredibly dated. Worn out torn carpet, torn seat cushions, boxes of trash stacked in the bar area, disgusting bathrooms, etc. This all shows the kind of pride these people take in their jobs. This is how everything you CAN see looks...now imagine what the kitchen cleanliness is like. I will never ever eat at this place. It's foul. 4. Bathrooms: The only thing the bathrooms are missing to complete the horror movie theme is a flickering light. They are dingy, dated, dirty and unkempt. They smell like backed up sewage. Again...no pride taken in doing their jobs. Notes: I did hear that the facility was purchased and extensive renovations were underway. I was able to verify that by walking around and noticing a field that was nearly done and two others that were in an active state of repair. I have to say that the completed field was gorgeous. If the remaining fields match that level of upgrade, then this place may have a fighting chance. All they need to do is teach their employees how to: A. Properly maintain the facility B. Show some tact in dealing with the very people that make it possible for you to be employed C. Be consistent with your policies and alter some draconian policies you seem to think 'help' the business D. Treat people with respect and know your role. You are a security guard at a youth baseball field, not the secret service conducting security sweeps for a foreign dignitary I am hoping that we never play at this facility ever again; however, if we do, I sure do hope they have implemented new, more visitor friendly policies and that their fields have been properly renovated and made safer.
