I firstly want to say - It has taken me about a few month to get over my experience with this salon. I came here on June 25 2016 to get my hair coloured with a senior stylist - Justin Song (who has 10+ years of experience) I went in for a consultation first, than came back few days after that... I want to say I have thick hair, and I did thorough research looking at their page and even going in for a consultation. I even asked if they would take me because I have thick hair and it's not easy for most people. I would like to firstly mention this is probably the first place that I had went to that uses a piece of string with different costs on it to dictate how much your hair will roughly cost. Long story short I asked for a balayage touch up and I ended up with something likewise. In the photo you will see a before photo with red marker blurring my face. Also you will see a photo of my results. As a result I remained calm, but expressed this was not what I signed up for. My hair cut wasn't what I wanted, he thinned out half my head - I was hesitant to stop because by then he was half way around my head. At this point there was nothing I liked about this hair cut, or colour. During the "lifting process" I had some of their assistance "adding" more bleach or lifting to my foils. Thanks to them my hair came out over processed and broke by just combing through it(which I rarely have because my hair is so thick). The worse part is paying 400$+ for something you dislike so much. Neither were they phased whether or not the person in front of them was upset. My lesson learnt. Due to this experience I will stay and continue to go to LisaDinhHairstudio - that is when my hair grows back. Once again I'm not trying to bash them but simply share a experience. This is my first time visiting this location for a cut and blow-out. I've visited the North York location before. My impression of the store was more on the pricy side but good service overall. This time I was disappointed with the service left alone the cut. The cut was average, which I expected for not going for the director's cut. After all, all I really needed was a just a trim to my long damaged hair. I decided to save the money. If I want a nicely tampered bob, then I totally will go for the best and most experienced. Just some background to level set my expectation. The initial look of my hair was very flat with no layering or contouring to compliment my face. I pointed out my concerned and got a little bit more trimming along the side. I'm not a hair professional so I would rather leave the decision on how to produce a flattering hair style to the stylist. However it's just not the case in my visit this time. After I got home, I still feel the bottom of my hair is too heavy and lumpy compared to the top of my hair. It wasn't as noticeable at the salon after the blow-out. The most disappointing part was the wash. I expected some relaxing sculpt message but not much to the wash here. I got shampooed, scratched then rinsed. In the end I paid $45+tax and was told it had to be in cash. Despite its location is very convenient to where I live now, I know I can either get cheaper or better service elsewhere. read more

Worst cut and style, I had a young male senior stylist. I believe this name was Justin I asked for a simple trim and front layers... instead I got about a 3-4 inch cut with layers around my whole head. I wanted a blow-out with a blow dryer (I am trying to stay away from heat as much as possible) .. instead I got a hot flat iron, making my hair pin straight with no movement My cut looks ridiculous Only thing that was great was shampoo/head massage- thats about it Save your money & time. I like this place. It's a great space, with huge mirrors! It's in a cool location. Granted, I live around the corner, but if I ever move, I'm driving here to get my hair cut. Yoki does an excellent job. She's cut my hair four times now, and it continues to grow out perfectly. I've never had a haircut that I've liked better... and it continues to improve over time. Got my hair done with Yoki, she is definitely a pro. She did 90% of my hair work including washing, foiling, bleach, dying and styling. She worked over time for my special unicorn colour request. I don't usually "torture" my hair and I have no idea what is the price for hair service. Just to give you a an idea, I paid 120+120+180 pretax for two bleaches and one colouring. Consider about the result, I think it is fair. I would definitely go back to Yoki for more colouring! read more

I've been meaning to come here for a while, but I couldn't find it. Then one day when I was passing by, I realized it was in the same plaza as Ten Ren on Hwy 7! I needed to get my hair dyed again as it's been a few months, and it's losing its colour. Left a message on Yelp at 11am and expected a 2 hour response time (as stated on the page) and they got back to me in under half an hour. thankfully even though I was so last minute in my planning, they fit me in at 2PM for a hair dye. The salon itself is quite clean, I really like that they had lockers for my personal belongings, as I wouldn't need to worry about it when I got my hair washed. I was given a book to look through the colors that were available and they served me a drink. Great touch. I was then approached by Jason, the stylist appointed to me for my appointment that day. I told him I wanted to try maybe a new colour, and he very happily gave me advice, good comments on my hair colour choice. Reasons and all, it was a good consultation to help me find my colour. About 80% of my hair was done by the (I'm guessing) apprentice, and the roots and touch ups were done by Jason. Which seemed fair, as I have been to other salons where the stylist never touched my hair during the hair dye process. He washed my hair before handing my hair washing back to the apprentice. But returned to blow dry my hair. And even though I was indifferent to having my hair blown out, he insisted on helping me style it with loose curls, which I loved the result of. Also, while styling my hair, he gave comments on how I should cut my hair, as he sees something that could be improved. When I went up to pay, they measured my hair with a piece of string to show me how much I need to pay. There is no argument on needs to be paid, so it's really fair. Overall really enjoyed the experience. What I appreciated was that they were clear with what they will do, and for what price. The stylist and apprentice I dealt with spoke most comfortably in mandarin. So it might be better if you speak Chinese, to communicate better with the stylists. read more

Went Into get a hair consultation and left without booking an appointment, heres why: This was my first time getting a hair consultation since i wanted to colour my hair this ombre purple and had many questions and concerns about the process before proceeding with my decision. i think over all it might had been the language barrier because i don't think she fully understood how i wanted my hair done even with the pictures i showed her but she was vary nice and gave me recommendations since my hair wasn't in the greatest condition to handle such an extreme hair bleach. The reason why i left in the end without booking an appointment was the ridiculous quote she ended up giving me in the end of the consultation. i was VARY SHOCKED on how much she was planning on charging me... get ready for this... she quoted me $800 Dollars!!! My jaw dropped to the floor!! i then asked if i was to just colour only in the inner part of my hair, how much would that reduce to plus the hair cut and it was still vary shockingly expense, $550 Dollars. i apologised and said that was way out of my budget for this hair project and quickly jetted. i never in my life expected hair dying plus a hair cut would ever come close to that price. like no joke i thought it was a prank and she was going to tell me the actual price but nope, she was serious. The over all customer service was pretty good, vary welcoming, brought me a cup of water while waiting for the hair stylist. i would highly recommend getting a hair consultation to know what your getting yourself into. Even though this place was a friend recommendation, im glad i didn't jump right into it without getting a hair consultation. if i had just gotten it done and saw the price at the end, i think i would have had a heart attack lol Right after i went over to a different hair salon couple blocks down the road and got a second hair consultation/quote off recommendation from yelp. i just walked in without booking an appointment and already quarter the price of NC Salon and i instantly booked with them this sunday but we will wait and see the end results. read more

The first thing you should know is that I'm one of those people who don't take care of my hair at all. I'm not picky about the shampoo I use - in fact, I buy whichever brands that are on sale - and I don't do the whole leave-in conditioning or the hair oils stuff. As long as it's clean and it's not in my face, I'm 90% OK with it. But since I haven't cut my hair in about 7 months, and I started to call it "gunk of hair", and I had recently discovered a strand with about 5 split ends (on one single strand!), I figured that I need to go all out and find a salon that would actually take their time taking care of me instead of rushing to the next customer. NC Salon advertised on Facebook, and through Foursquare, I discovered a friend who visits this place, I decided to give this place a try. I booked for 1:00PM on a Monday, which is the time they open that day. I had to wait for a bit before I was serviced (maybe about 20 minutes?) but considering I rarely get my hair cut, and I had the day off, I didn't really mind the wait. Plus, I hadn't even decided what cut I was going for - I'm super indecisive and super lazy with my hair - so I didn't mind sitting there flipping through hairstyle magazines. The shampoo person gave me a really nice head massage, and the receptionist lady offered me the hair magazines and a cup of tea - I had brought in Tim Hortons unfortunately - while I waited for my turn. The stylist I had was named Jeffrey. He was pretty quiet and polite. I say polite because I'm so self-deprecating towards my hair, and knew for a fact my hair was 100% damaged and ugly, I kept asking him if my hair was really damaged, but he would just say, "I think if we thin it out, it'll be better." Such an indirect answer, so polite. :P He was quiet, but because I also want to take better care of my hair, I asked him questions about the hair products he was using. He used some sort of heat protection cream before blow-drying, and then some sort of yellow hair oil at the end of the cut - which, by the way, left my hair ridiculously soft at the end. Hair gunk no more! Personally, I think it would be advantageous in instructing the stylists here at this location if you can speak Mandarin. Most of the stylists here are Mandarin speakers - but they can understand Cantonese, no worries - but you can probably gain more hair tips that way if you can hold conversations with them. That said though, I spent a good 5 to 10 minutes after my hair was done asking the receptionist lady (in English) about their ombre+balayage services. She told me their ombre+balayage services are more often done at their Yorkville location, but she was very knowledgeable about the whole hair dyeing process, so that was very helpful. I also found out that Christmas and Chinese New Year are their busiest times, so I feel quite fortunate I was able to squeeze in an appointment on the last Monday before Christmas. The overall cost was just under $40 (tax included) for upper waist length hair, for a regular non-senior stylist. It's the same cost as you would get from a downtown Korean salon, so I don't find it a big deal. I would come back to this location again, instead of making the trip downtown! read more

The worst experience EVER!! I went there for a hair cut from long to medium (long bob), specifically asked for "just under the shoulder". What I got is a "just above chin" short, old fashioned bob. The worst is the band. I never see someone just took out a bunch of hair and just do one cut , there you go! Even for my daughter the stylist will do it for layers. The band is the worst thing I ever saw! And I can't even fix it at this short! I want to shave my head bald now!!! read more

Came out 3 hours later with THE EXACT same colour (I don't think they even died my hair because you could still see my grey hairs) and completely different short haircut that I did not want. I went there for a hair cut. Hair wash and the stylist was great, while it was very hard to communicate with them since they all spoke Chinese and not so good English. The stylist didn't quite understand me while the outcome was pretty good. The website said $50 for senior stylist but they charged me $60 + tax. -- After NC's customer service heard my complaint that I was charged differently from the website, they apologized about no one notifying me that the stylist had been promoted to a director level. They sent us a nice card with the difference along with a complimentary hair treatment service voucher. Pretty impressive customer service. They cared about my first experience at the salon and did a good job for service recovery. read more

I was there for a hairstyle change and Talent has worked the magic! Not only he is a strong communicator with plentiful of haircut/ styling experience, but he is really fast in achieving what I was looking for. I am still loving my hairstyle and color, for which I have gotten it a month back! The price is quite steep, but I have no regrets. read more

The staff who washed my hair he did a good job. Gentle massage and just have to say a couple tiny water drops did splashed a little on my face - but acceptable . will go back this salon to set my hair for the parties. . read more

Went to get a wash and cut based on a friend's recommendation and this is going to be my new go to place from now on! My friend recommended me to get a cut from Yoki and she is amazing! I had really damaged hair going in and really needed some tlc. I am always very hesitant to cut my hair because I feel like none of the hair stylist really understand what I'm looking for. I usually just ask for trim and long layers and it always ends up being too thin and shorter than what I expected. Yoki really understood what kind of haircut and look I was going for. She took time to make sure all my dead ends were trimmed and styled it so that I can easily curl my hair. She also has amazing customer service and helped me gather my belongings before I left which was unexpected from the stylist. She charges about $50 with tax for a cut and to me it's worth every penny! read more

When my stylist left his previous salon, I followed him to NC salon. Wil is very attentive, takes his time with hair cuts and gives you advice about what suits your face structure and skin tone. This salon is a little pricey than the last, but then Wil did get promoted to a senior stylist level. He does speak English, not Engrish. (He also speaks Chinese, of course). WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I DIDN'T EVEN GET THROUGH THE DOOR. I saw all these amazing reviews and I wanted a trim right before a wedding. Bad idea? Probably. The receptionist and I had spoken on the phone the day before. She assured me that my 12pm appointment was more than enough time to get a cut and style before the wedding, which was 2:30pm. For some reason, while I was on my way to the salon the next day, the receptionist called me to CANCEL 10 minutes prior to my appointment. I don't understand, if you're gonna cancel why can't you tell me ahead of time, especially when you knew I had a wedding to go to? I was told that my stylist Steven cannot make it to work today, or so they say. The receptionist never once admitted it was a mistake on their end and didn't bother to accommodate me with a replacement. She told me that I could still come in for a wash and a style which was $35 when my actual haircut + style would have costed me $40. This was ridiculous. She offered me 1pm and I told her that the wedding as at 2:30. She said she KNEW that but I can still PROBABLY make it. After a while on the phone, she told me that she would try to contact another female client to switch with me. HERE , I thought she was making an actual effort. Guess again. Right before she was about to call the other girl, thankfully I asked her if it was going to be the same price. She told me that since I HAD to get my haircut no matter what at 12, it would be 60-70 and it would be the art director. Lovely, I HAVE to get my haircut because that was the time you gave me and I HAVE to because I have a wedding to go in less than 3 hours. I got so mad, I just told them to forget about it. Seriously, no CUSTOMER service whatsoever. I don't care how great the cut is, if this is happening before I get through the door. I can't imagine what awaits for me inside the salon. read more

I had a horrible experience. The customer service was good- the result of my hair was horrible. Let me explain: I got a consultation, booked an appointment- cost of ombre/ balayage in my case was $400. Pricey, but I had a messed up dye job and needed it fixed. I showed my stylist multiple pictures. I wanted a brown to caramel ombre- a typical ombre you see every day on the streets. I was looking forward to it, seeing all the pictures on their instagram. They bleached my hair (which i questioned in the first place since I've dyed my black hair into browns and blondes before without bleaching necessary), and then dyed my hair. They showed me the colours my hair would supposedly turn out- dark brown to light brown/ blonde, what i wanted. However, when they finished dying my hair, MY HAIR WAS I KID YOU NOT ORANGE. Orange! Mad hatter orange. Fire engine orange-red and I am not exaggerating. I googled the mad hatter and my hair matched his. And for an Asian who is relatively conservative with her hair, this was horrific. I cried and panicked and couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. I was livid and so upset. So the next day I came back in- thank goodness they gave me a free hair fix, but the hair fix was still horrible (not as horrific as the orange, but I would not even have paid $5 for this dye job). Even when i came in, the manager said slightly sarcastically: "I hope you like your hair after this." Um excuse me, they turned my head mad hatter orange in the first place (and it was 95% of my hair, not just the ends)- I don't know how they found that acceptable. I have red-brown hair now, when all the pictures I showed them were with yellow-based browns. And by red-brown, I mean more red than brown. The ombre they gave me is also inverted. The middle section is lighter than the bottom. I give up- i'm now resorting to wearing my hair in a bun until it grows out because my hair is already too short to cut. I dumped $400 in the trash. I might as well have gone to shoppers drug mart to buy a $15 box ombre kit to do it myself and it would have turned out better. And now I am using tar shampoo to desperately fade the reds out. If you want to go for an ombre, i suggest going downtown. Don't come to this location- the pictures on this yelp page for the thornhill location are false (and if you notice, most of them say NC salon+ in the background (i.e. downtown location, not thornhill). read more

My stylist was Chris.. I ask for longer at the front and shorter at the back.. What I got was same length hair front and back.. I also ask for bangs which also turn out terrible.. THIS IS THE WORST SALON IVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!! I went to get my hair balayaged because it had grown out and the blonde had faded, and also to get a trim. My stylist decided to cut my hair first which is ass backwards to begin with. I asked for a trim and said my layers are really subtle and natural looked. He chopped 4 inches off and hacked these layers so blunt and brutal I can't wear my hair down. Then after 2 hours.... Yes 2 hours for a hair cut he quoted me 400 dollars to do the colour!!!!!!! 400!!! After the worst hair cut in the world!!! Then after I said that is ridiculous but I'll pay because I came to get my hair dyed... He said he was too scared to do the colour.... Said he's only done it on Asian people. They were so racist and he refused to colour my hair... He said he didn't feel like doing it and asked it I could come back another day!!! I asked for the manger and he brought out the receptionist who was most definitely NOT the manager because I had seen the manager he talked to earlier in regards to the price for my colour!! So lied to me and said that she was the manager now and that he absolutely could not colour my hair today because his confidence was shaken because he had hacked my hair cut so bad! Do not go to this salon if you have curly hair. First of all, they do not comprehend english very well, so it was a waste of time and very frustrating trying to explain to my stylist what type of haircut I would like. Then, I showed him a picture of a girl with shoulder-length hair, and he cut my hair practically to my ears (when wet, which will shrink when it dries. He did not seem to understand that). The girl at the reception had to keep coming over and translating for me, and kept apologizing when I said It wasn't what I wanted. It was nice of her to care, but unfortunately doesn't fix anything. My haircut wasn't what I wanted at all, and the stylist either didn't listen or didn't understand english enough to do what I requested. I would never visit this salon again, even if they paid me. read more

This is my second time going to NC salon for a haircut and I have learned my lesson. I have never been so upset over a haircut. The customer service is great, but that's all.The first time I went was about a year ago. My haircut was by Miss A. It wasn't great, but acceptable. I decided to return for a second time today only because it is walking distance from my house so I wanted to give them another try. I wanted a medium length (below shoulders) inverted bob, and showed the stylist several pictures. His English was limited but he nodded his head and appeared to understand me. As he proceeded to cut my hair I noticed the first layer was way too short. I don't usually speak up in these situations but the length worried me so I told him it was too short and showed him the pictures again. He acknowledged the hair was about 2-3 inches longer in those pictures and then proceeded to cut my hair again. I had hoped that the longer outer layers would mask the short hair underneath. But in the end, my haircut was still too short. I knew that mid-way thru but didn't have the courage to tell him again. It also does not look like an inverted bob (longer in the front, shorter at the back), instead, it looks straight front to back. Only a small part in the front is longer to salvage the look, but he thought it was too long and asked if I wanted to cut it shorter. I said no, but that was all I could say. I can tell he put a lot of effort into cutting my hair and even more time styling it, but the haircut is completely off. It is at least 2 inches too short. Lessons learned: 1. Speak up immediately if you know the haircut is going all wrong. 2. When you have a hairstylist you are happy with already, stick with her even if they're far away. read more
