This is possibly my favorite YMCA out of all of them that I've visited thus far. Take note that the…read moreYMCA is nationwide and you need to let them know you are an out of state member when you check in (just say Nationwide Member). Unique features here: - Lots of sitting areas - Top floor indoor track - Large men's and women's locker rooms on the bottom floor - Ample space available to spread out from people - Hair stylist station in men's locker room - Treadmill in men's locker room No complaints here! It's a discombobulated puzzle on the top floor. Each open room offers a different quadrant of machines. One room has your benches/incline/decline. One room has all the treadmills/stairsteppers. One room has yoga/pilates. One room has your weight machines. And the room I finally found is hidden in the back and has all your dumbbells/pulley machines/smith machines. Word to the wise, you'll get a workout going from the bottom to the top floor. Three floors of fun! Enjoy your treasure hunt when you arrive.

There is parking in the back and it was already pretty full around the time I got there. But saw people leaving also. I was greeted promptly by Charles, I believe, and he was kind enough to give me the verbal tour when I said it was my first visit. I could tell this is a large location. Lockers downstairs, spacious and very well kept. Sauna was a delight and good thing it can hold a lot of people because there were like 8 of us inside at one point. A lot of workout equipment, all types of machines like 3 or 4 rooms upstairs for weights/ machines/ cardio/ etc. Areas for stretching and walking circle. The basketball court was great to finish the workout. I will definitely consider visiting again if in the area.

This is such a great little studio! I recently came here for the Hot 26 class with Patty and left…read morefeeling completely rejuvenated. The room was nice and toasty for class, and the instructor guided us through a series of poses that cleared my mind from a hectic day of work. Bonus: The studio is next to a gorgeous lake that you can feast your eyes on for some post-workout meditation. I came through ClassPass, but it looks really easy to sign up online, etc.

Where do I begin. Well, after driving from NJ to Raleigh NC area, I needed some yoga. I am fairly…read morenew to yoga but after doing about 10 classes, my joints feel better. My buddy in NJ got me hooked on hot yoga and so far I've taken about 7-8 of hot yoga classes too. Now in NJ hot yoga is a dry heat. Fast forward to NC and the hot yoga at Firefly is another animal. The room is heated with like humidifier steam...you can literally see the steam in the room. When class starts the steamers are turned off and that heat is on in that room! I saw 2 other objects in the room and maybe some heat was coming from them too. Oh did I mention the temperature outside was already about 95 degrees. I think the room itself was 100 degrees. The instructor William was amazing. He has a very calming voice and because the class was so intimate he knew I was never in his class and another woman as well. She was from Philly and I was the Jersey girl. William welcomes you and makes you feel very comfortable. We progressed through the moves slowly but intensely. William also walked around the room to correct form and help you to get deeper into the stretch. When the class was done corpse pose aka: savasana felt so GOOD! I loved the ice cold towel they give each student at the end. The studio is hidden. At first I thought my GPS was wrong. Have you ever seen the movie Deliverance? Yes, think that movie. The studio is inside of a like country club/retirement community/pool house...just weird but it's beautiful. The yoga place when you walk in is on the left and there is an attendant at the desk. There are locker rooms and showers...the yoga room is upstairs door on the right. I purchased a 2 week deal for $25. I am in town for 3 days but you can't beat the deal. So if in the Cary/Raleigh area check them out and make sure you're able to take the heat! Good place very good place.

Due to a move on our part, we are looking forward to calling the Lake Boone Trail location our Rex Wellness home. They offer everything we need to have a great workout and relaxation afterwards. I live right smack dab between Knightdale and Wakefield so that that gives me double the options. I've only seen Wakefield and Knightdale and there are subtle differences. Knightdale is newer so things seem a bit "shinier", still. The locker combination system is different so if you get used to one, you'll lock yourself out at the other. Knightdale doesn't seem as crowded. The Hot Tub is smaller but I think the lap pool is larger. The Knightdale club has more "scenery" outside the windows -- you see trees instead of offices which is pleasant. Both offer a wide variety of classes and both are clean with attentive staff (though again, the nod goes to Knightdale for having a truly welcoming front desk person and very helpful in showing a new member around).. WHEN you lock yourself out of your locker, they respond promptly rather than making sit and drip for 10 minutes and you can call from the locker room rather than having to wander out in your bathing suit! I suspect that I will use Knightdale more than Wakefield just because it seems better run and more pleasant setting. Both are (for me) a huge step up from the Y because you don't have kids running around the pool area or having to get kicked out of the pool for make up toddler swim lessons. As opposed to the Y which is much more family oriented, Rex is more more oriented towards those of us who are a bit "long of tooth" and are just trying to keep our mobility so we aren't having to use a scooter to ride around the grocery store. If your thing is to go watch the gym bunnies in their lycra, you'll likely be VERY disappointed in the scenery here. But that's ok because I feel comfortable knowing I'm not the only one that is a middle-aged mom with the stretch marks to prove it and I just want a pleasant welcoming place to get away from the daily grind, improve my health and de-stress.
