I had been going there for 4 months. The whole purpose was to slowly lighten my hair a little. They…read moresaid you can't just color it lighter, you need to lighten the hair. The first visit I told them my hair goes darker than the shade so to please not put a dark dye on my roots. They also applied a glaze (I think that's what they called it) that would lighten my hair one tone in just a few areas. They said it wouldn't damage my hair. They ignored my knowledge of my own hair and dyed it too dark and it felt really dry and damaged once it dried They were nice enough to give me a conditioning treatment the next day to fix the dryness. I kept going back and on one occasion I went home with dye still in my hair because it wasn't properly rinsed. Stained my coat and had to jump in the shower to rinse it off. The last visit I asked my same stylist if we could go a bit lighter. She told me she would do 40% of the lighter tone. After my appointment I was horrified to see I had a very visible stained forehead and then noticed my roots were darker than the rest of my hair . I texted her the next morning and she said she would color over it with a lighter color. Huh? They told me initially that you can't do that, plus it's recommended you wait to color over color at least 2-4 weeks. So I wasn't feeling comfortable with doing that. Of course it was right before my birthday so I was pretty upset. I asked for a refund. The stylist was always very kind and professional which is why I kept going back despite all the incidents that were upsetting. The reason I am not going back and never recommending this place is because one of the owners was absolutely horrible when I talked to her on the phone. She displayed the opposite of serenity. Horrible customer service, lack of kindness, rude and didn't let me talk. Not to mention she didn't apologize once for dying my hair too dark. Instead she yelled at me for texting the stylist. And added that I wasn't charged enough for the services. Really? So I didn't pay enough for all the aggravation and mistakes? Being an owner it would be a good idea to be professional, kind, try to make up for the mistake and at the very least have some good manners and apologize for what happened. If you want a serene experience I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if something goes wrong. Which is when customer service really counts. If you don't mind careless mistakes, wrong hair color and unreturned calls, this place is for you!

I sat on this for a bit, because I'm not trying to mess w/ anyone's money. But...I don't know…read more People are also spending their hard-earned money here, so I'll just keep it simple, and also let the pics speak: 1. I asked for balayage on previously highlighted hair. I showed reference photos and said I'm fine with whatever my hair lifts to (I'm not expecting them to get as light as the pics.) They said they can do it, no problem. I'm on the docket for a Tye Dye and a Take Root. 2. After everything's washed out, they dry a section in front for me to see. Looks okay. I was the last customer of the day, so I go home to blow-dry so they can close. Only then do I realize that there is no blend at all, and there's a band around my head, like it's been growing out for months. My grays are also still showing, which should have been covered by the Take Root. 3. They get me in for a complimentary re-do. I was told that they didn't "think anything was wrong with it" (which was infuriating...I mean, y'all can see the pics.) They say they'll bring the root color down to blend it. I hear that they didn't actually do a Take Root last time (even though they charged for it...they did do a shadow or a color smudge? Maybe it costs the same.) I was told that this time, the grays will be covered. 4. I blow-dry my hair there, and see that there is a dark dye drip right in the front section of my hair. I asked for them to fix; they rubbed bleach in there immediately, and said the dark spot would wash out. It did not wash out. Well...at least my grays are now covered. I give up and leave. This is just too much. 5. I get home and see even more uneven spots on my hair. The stark band remains on some parts of the outer hair and much of the inner hair. 6. I finally have to go to another stylist to get it fixed, and lament the amount of time and emotional energy spent on this that I really did not have. First time getting hair done in 8 months, and sorely needed a pick-me-up, but got this instead. It's not even about the $ (which was $169 before tip). I'm not interested in a refund, since they spent time & product on this.) Some acknowledgment & empathy would have gone a long way. There are lots of rave reviews about this place, especially if you're looking for all-over color or just root touch-ups. If you're gonna try it out, I'd stay away from the balayage/Tye-Dye. That kind of work takes time and attention that a business model built on quickness and efficiency probably cannot deliver. (DynFly Troy...hesitant to name the stylist.)

Dy n fly…read morenot only squeezed in my last minute request but also gave me the best blow out I've ever gotten. Mounife was my stylist and she was incredible. I literally wanted to take her back to Chicago with me. I walked in with a head of the dirtiest hair and she gave me the absolute best scalp scrub and made sure all the gunk was cleaned out. I counted and she washed my hair FOUR times! Then she gave me the cutest round brush blow out- all in less than 30 minutes. I have very course, frizzy Indian hair and she left no dents at all- I don't think any stylist has ever been able to successfully get those front pieces tamed with a blow dry. Could not recommend this place and specifically Mounife enough- thank you for the incredible wash and blow dry!!!!
