2024 it's been a few years since I posted about Dr. Chu and I wanted to follow up that my experience continues to be well managed care. I've spent a lifetime being fearful of Dennis and for once in my life I am not afraid if you have dental fears and are nervous and scared, and therefore you put off your dentistry that needs to happen for your teeth don't do it, see he is the best dentist I've known in 56 years. I'm very grateful to him and in particular to Erin who is the dental hygienist who sees me every four months I purposely go more often so that there's any issues there handled they've taught me how to brush floss effectively. read more

UPDATE: Aug 2015 - I had an old filling just start breaking off piece by piece - along with a gaping hole with very sharp edges. I walked into the office (since I was going to the store nearby) to see if I could make an appt soon. Well, I hadn't realized I walked in a minute before closing on a Friday!! (So sorry!!) They took me right in for an X-ray and actually drilled & filled my tooth right then & there! I think it took an hour or so too. I was SUPER relieved and appreciative for he and his staff staying for me. On a Friday too!! Thank you to everyone in the office!! You go above & beyond!! --------------------------------------------------------------- A couple years ago I was needing to find a new dentist closer to me. I happened to see Dr. Chu's office and walked in. I am so grateful I found him. Besides being close to home, he's personable and makes himself available to his patients. His dental hygienists have the newest technology to make your smile as healthy and beautiful as it can be. They are always super excited to see me and treat me as a friend instead of just another number. THANK YOU! I appreciate the Dr. being very gentle with numbing my gums before my procedure - it's the best job I've experienced here in north county. If that's the worst part of going to the dentist, how easy! He also doesn't talk you into anything and will work with you on scheduling your dentistry needs. He had told me I needed a crown a year and a half ago, but never made me feel guilty when I didn't decide to do it right away. He just suggests. I never felt pressured. I finally had it done and am super happy with how the whole thing turned out. I love Carolina (Dr's assistant) to death too! 014 / 100 - 2018 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. If you are looking for a new dentist in the North County area, look no further. If you go through my old posts on Yelp, I've been looking for a new dentist since I moved to San Diego with no luck thus far. I thought I found a great dentist in Sorrento Valley, but they didn't deep clean my teeth as much as I had originally hoped. My gums were starting to ache and hurt after 2 months of my appointment with them. :( So, now that my husband and I have moved farther up, I thought I would look for another dentist again. There were a few in Carlsbad that I was interested in reaching out to, but they either couldn't fit me into their schedules or (for one place) they couldn't find my insurance no matter what information I gave them lol. I came across Dr. Chu's office on Yelp and thought I would give him a whirl. Called and spoke with a very sweet woman (Bobby/Bobbi) on the phone. She was so kind hearted, professional, and incredibly upbeat. Loved speaking with her as she made scheduling an appointment and getting my insurance such a cinch. When the time arrived for my appointment (about 2 weeks or so after our phone call), I came to the office early. It's located in a shopping plaza in Carlsbad, but was very easy to find. There's an ample amount of parking and the office is very clean and put together. I checked in with Bobbi, got my paperwork, and started on that. After I turned it in, I only had to wait about 5-10min before I was introduced to my hygienist, Aurora. Aurora is a total sweetheart. I think the entire staff at Dr. Chu's office is seriously amazing. She was so professional, so polite, and so interesting to talk to. I never felt like there was an awkward moment between us and it seriously felt like I had been her friend for years. She (just like everyone else!) was so easy to talk to - which is absolutely crazy to be honest! Aurora went over things she was noticing with my teeth, areas that she noticed there was more inflammation, etc. She was NOT harsh or mean about any of these things and even gave me tips and advice on how to better reach the back teeth for flossing, etc. Great bed side manner. She was also very, VERY meticulous when cleaning my teeth. This was my first appointment, so I knew we were going to take a bit and I was ok with that. She very carefully went over each tooth, scraping and removing plaque, and was incredibly thorough while doing so. My teeth felt so freakin' smooth and clean (and still do!) after my appointment. She would discuss what she was doing, answer any questions I had, and did an absolutely amazing job. I loved her and I hope she never leaves lol. After Aurora was done cleaning, I met with Dr. Chu since I was a new patient. Dr. Chu is a busy guy, so it took a little bit before he came to look at my x-rays, but... again, this was my first visit and I didn't have anywhere to be so I didn't care at all lol. The office was POPPIN' when I was there (every room and hygienist was busy as hell and there were several people in the waiting room), so I'm not surprised it took him 10 min to finally get to me. Dr. Chu is also professional and friendly. He went over my teeth, said he didn't see any cavities, but did note that he was concerned about one of my fillings that appeared to have broken or fallen out and wanted to get it fixed. He did NOT push to get it fixed ASAP or try to sell me anything. He said we could easily take care of it the next time I came in for my next cleaning. Other dentists I have been to in San Diego would have immediately pushed me to take care of it right then and there, but Dr. Chu didn't do that at all. He was very personable and it's very obvious that he takes his job and clients seriously. Why can't all dentists be like Dr. Chu and his team!?!?!? Overall, I had a great experience. My teeth still feel spectacular a week later and I have already booked my next appointment with them in 6 months. Highly recommend Dr. Chu! read more

Dr Chu and his staff were exceptional! I was laid off my job and insurance was expiring, so I was able to move up my appointment to be seen while I still had coverage. Not only did they find time to see me and do x-rays, I was able to have an extraction that clearly needed to be done on that same day. (Don't know if this was because of a cancellation, etc, but) this team was so accommodating with my needs and helped with finding the most affordable options for what I needed. The staff who are sisters were such sweethearts and so fun to talk to while waiting. When I get back on insurance I will need to make sure this office is covered. I never thought I would look forward to visiting the dentist! I cannot say enough good things about this practice! My family and my extended family all go to Dr Chu for checkups and dental work. We have always had a great experience in the many years we have been patients. Aurora, Bobbi, Dr Chu and all of the rest of the staff are the best. So many of our family members go there in fact that I often hear about exciting events in our family when I visit. I don't do Facebook, so this is the next best thing I guess. read more

From the moment I walked into the office, I could tell that Dr. Chu and his staff love their jobs...and that translates into an awesome patient experience! Everyone I dealt with was friendly and knowledgeable. The office was neat, clean, and gorgeously decorated with hygienist Wendy's beautiful floral arrangements. Dr. Chu uses the most up-to-date dental equipment, like a brand-new x-ray machine that is much more patient-friendly than the old bitewing ones. Dr. Chu and his office staff have amazing people skills, and they treat everyone not just as a patient but as a whole person. I hadn't liked my previous dentist in Carlsbad and when I heard from my friend about Dr. Chu I made the switch for a better plan to be able to go to him. Best decision I could have made! Dr Chu and his staff are wonderful. I went in for an emergency (it's hard to find a dentist open on a Friday) and I've since had all of my dental work done at his office. I can't say enough good things about him! But what I was really excited about was I've had a small chip in my front tooth for two years now & Dr. Chu repaired it..I've had 2 other doctors tell me it was unrepairable. His work is beautiful. Love Dr Chu, he is a very caring and compassionate dentist. He back office staff is also very kind and considerate. The only negative thing I would have to say is that the front office staff who I thought very highly of, my kids babysat the office mgrs grandchild and were never paid for the last 2 week of care. Also I found that although my insurance covers only 2 cleanings a yr. She booked me and my children every 3 months. Assuming as since she is the office mgr she knew an auth would be required and obtained. I found she didn't even try for an auth until I received a $600.00+ bill. As a medical collector I called my insurance and that is how I found no attempt was made for auth. I have made several attempts to call and speak to Dr Chu regarding this issue and I don't think he get the msgs. The bill will be pd and we now have a new dentist. Word of advice. Always as for a copy of the auth. If none is given question it. Again Dr Chu is fantastic and really helped me with a very painful issue. 5 star for Dr Chu. 1 for the front office. read more
