The only shade near the playground
    Rachie P.

I don't enjoy coming to this park most because it's pretty ghetto. There are good things about this park but the homeless in the area and maybe even the park go-ers just don't keep the park looking presentable at all. The parking lot is big but smelly (urine) and trashed. The playground could be great, but on hot summer days there's no safe way to play out there for more than 15 minutes at a time. There is no shade or seating close to the playground area. With the random characters around the area I wouldn't trust my kids being too far from me. There is a public bathroom nearby but still, if the outside appears dirty I can't imagine... It's sad that this park has so much potential but I can never recall enjoying visits here.

The rain helped a lot. So green in comparison to before

Do any of you remember the two huge turtles that you could climb on and the swings? I miss those! It has been replaced by a jungle gym that seems to be geared more towards kids that already have decent hand/eye coordination and the ability to climb. There are restrooms here and lots of space. You can grill here and have big parties, you just need to make sure you come early enough. As many posts have mentioned, there is a community of homeless people that set up along the park near the water. This park is a bit scary at night, I don't think you should venture off alone. It is a good place to sit back and kill time, possibly relax or snooze while you wait for traffic to die down lol. KEEP ALL VALUABLES WITH YOU, DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR VEHICLE UNLESS YOU'RE KEEPING AN EYE ON THE CAR ITSELF. It's not the best Park but it is a familiar place that I'll be going back to.

    Bathrooms. No toilet paper!

The only reason I've ever been here in the past was for a car cruise meet up. There is a large parking lot, you can fit quite a bit of cars in here. The location is relatively central, I guess. Located on the border between Pearl City and Aiea on Kamehameha Highway, across the street from Burger King. The only other reason I was here, recently, was to take a couple of friends bike riding at the Pearl Harbor Bike Path. This is a good place to park and is about halfway on the bike path. Make sure not to leave any valuables in the car! This is kind of a sketchy area. There's a little covered area with tables, good to have a gathering. Nice view of Pearl Harbor mothball fleet, the ships that are just there for storage. Nice view of the homeless camps that reside there near the water. Talk about beachfront property. There are lots of open green areas. If you wanted to kick a soccer ball around or something like that, not a bad place to do so. Bring your own toilet paper and soap. There is a bathroom here, but no amenities. There is a little playground area for the kids.....but I don't know if I'd want my kids playing on it......maybe it's dirty, maybe it's actually not, but the vibe you get sure makes you feel like you need a penicillin shot or something before touching the playground equipment? Other than the reasons mentioned above, or if I'm passing through on the Pearl Harbor Bike Path, there is no reason to come here.

    Play Area for Kiddos
    C J.

Park is very spacious with a few playground areas for kiddos. I have passed by several times before and there always seems to be a large event taking place like a family reunion and today the Juneteenth celebration. I think its a great llace to hold an outdoor event with lots of vendors and activities. There are a reasonable number of trees for shade and I would also reccomend for a party or barbecue. :)

I grew up in the area and never spent so much time here until now. It's a well taken care of and clean park. Lots and lots of parking stall, and lots of street parking as well. This park can get downright crazy on the weekends with all the clubs and sports that go on here. Two gripes though: 1. We recently notices that parts of the playground have been deteriorating and is in dire need of a fixing, before someone gets hurt. Always check out the playground before you let your kids play on it. 2. We truly wish there was a restroom at the upper part of the park too, besides the one in the rec center that they don't allow anyone to use. It's an absolute pain to be at the playground with the littles, and all of a sudden one needs the restroom and you either have to walk all the way down and back up, or drive... ugh... Otherwise, we love this park!

As we walked into the building, we were greeted by a sign saying "No Public Restrooms" I was a bit confused, cus I thought it was a public Building, Maybe I'm wrong. CLEAN floors, nice basketball rims and full glass backboards, bleachers are pulled out to sit on and to put your stuff. I used to play here back in my late teens and early 20s when I used to visit and had a great time back then and am happy that things haven't changed much. There is a good group of dudes not in their 20s (thankfully) that play on a regular basis and who all seem to know each other. I've been three times in the last week and will continue to come here as much as I can for the rest of my time here. I'm thankful to have free gym access. They keep the air con on in the gym to cool it down a bit and there are also bathrooms and a water fountain with a bottle filling option. Mahalo to all who keep the gym in great shape!!

Nothing was set up and every one we asked didn't know where field 1 was. Many parents and even coaches were in limbo as where to park, unload and wait. The first game we came to watch was finally set up one minute before game time. The second game 2 hours later had a mixup on fields and no team to challenge. What a mess. The lowest field is actually where we were supposed to be although we checked the middle and highest tiers too. For little kiddies the restroom facilities is a long walk up to the second level. So very glad the rest of the games except one were back at our regular home park where all 3 fields are on the same level: ground. Might be a good place to jog or walk and not sure if dogs are allowed but could be a spacious area to play frisbee or teach your kiddo to throw a football or to practice driving.

They took down the children's playground and I am hoping they build it up again soon. Convenient for families there are three separate level fields. Great for practicing sports or just spending time flying kites or racing toy cars. They also offer Zumba classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Karate on Monday and Fridays too I believe. Ample parking along the side street on the way up and the bottom and top parking lots. They also just repainted the lines so it's easier to park. My kids all play soccer here on Saturdays and we come here to exercise or cardboard slide down the hills. Nice getaway in the heart of salt lake.

My husband and I have been coming here for years, and remember coming here when we first started dating. The price went up a little bit to a few bucks a person, but it's still worth the entrance fee. We came back here with our kids, who had never been, and they had so much fun playing in and around the huge trees, running around the big open spaces, and feeding the ducks in the duck pond. A picnic was a delight at a table, and we brought a blanket to sit on and eat snacks again a little later while we were walking around. The bathrooms are nice and renovated. Really appreciate that touch. Overall, a great place to come for a little communue with nature.

Moanalua Gardens is a nicely maintained wide open park with many large "Hitachi" monkeypod trees…read morespread out. Definitely more so a park than a garden. Been wanting to visit here for years as the last time was probably in elementary school for a field trip, and I forgot what exactly was here. It was closed during and after covid for years, then reopened to private functions only, and had no idea when it was reopened to the public. $10 for adults ($4 for Kama'aina and military) 7 for ages 6-12, under 6 (and Kama'aina and military) is free. Moanalua Gardens is conveniently located right next to the H-1 freeway. Heading westbound direction is very easy. Note: the parking entrance is literally right before the off ramp. Look for the "Moanalua Gardens" signs. Take the Tripler exit. Look for the entrance on the right. If you're on the off-ramp, you passed it. But that's okay! You can make a right (H-1 eastbound, you'll make a left at the Triper off-ramp), then left on Mahiole St, and turn in the next driveway. You'll drive through the service entrance to the parking lot. Plenty of parking! Pay at the entrance kiosk where they also sell snacks and drinks. Once inside, there's a moss/algae and leaf filled pond. There's koi fish, but the water is dark and murky, you can barely see their bright colors. King Kamehameha V's cottage that looks like a like a usual house. A Chinese style structure that looks like it has seen better days. Both are not accessible. As for the rest, the "Hitachi" monkeypod trees are all well maintained. Even though, there's PLENTY of monkeypod trees around the island, there's not many that's grown in this wide, umbrella shaped figure with branches close to the ground. Overall, it's cool to see the umbrella shaped Hitachi trees in a wide open, park-like space, but the other areas are not very well-maintained. There's not much else to do with some places restricted making it difficult to appreciate the history and importance. Charging $10 regular entrance fee, even the $4 Kama'aina fee, isn't worth it to just go in a what is basically a park. Isn't Hitachi paying atleast $400,000 per year to use the image of the tree in their advertising?
