I actually haven't really enjoyed this park as a park proper because I simply transit through it to get to the hiking trail (also the campsite appears to be closed off), but it has enough amenities that I was left impressed. There are benches to sit with overhead shelters. Bathrooms helped me clean up after I got caught up in mud along the trail. The sinks were outside the lockable portion, so running water is always available thankfully. There are places to sit and be in community with the gorgeous trees around. I heard the Oahu Amakihi at this altitude even, which was a pleasant and rather welcome surprise. The park warden is a self-described grumpy old man, but he was responsive and helpful when I knocked on his door to report a water leak at the entrance of the Aiea Loop Trail.

Anyway this is the park that you enter in order to get to the Aiea Loop Trail with breathtaking views from the coastline thru the beautiful Halawa Valley with H3 smack in the middle. The Heiau is well marked and as a Hawaiian Spiritual place it is noted that it is to be respected as such. When you enter the park the Heiau is immediately on your left and parking in marked stalls is required. There are restroom facilities next to the covered pavilion and walkways from one to another. The path to walk into the Heiau is uneven and not easy to access so watch your step if you intend to walk around. I've seen feral chickens, feral pigs, feral cats and campers here. Permits are required for the campers not so much for the aforementioned animals. Dogs are required to be on leash. Beautiful and cooler temperature wise. The drive up Aiea Heights Drive isn't as perilous as others comment about but you do need to pay attention.

We've been told it's full, that there aren't enough kids, or that they could only play for 30 minutes. This time, I called ahead to make sure there was space before driving over. The person I spoke with told me they were open and had plenty of room. I explained that we would arrive in about 30 minutes. He said there was a birthday party starting at 4:00 PM, so my three boys would have 30 minutes to play freely before it got busy, and that they would be fine. When we arrived, we were immediately told they were closed for a party. I explained that I had just called and been told otherwise. Instead of trying to resolve the situation, the staff became hostile and accused me of lying, saying, "We don't even have a phone. We haven't had one for months." That's impossible because I called the phone number listed on their Google Business page. Rather than apologizing or trying to figure out what happened, they told us to leave and refused to let my kids play. The customer service was completely unacceptable. Lucas, Jason, and the manager (who refused to give me their name) handled the situation very poorly. Even if there had been a misunderstanding, there was no reason to treat a customer that way. We left and went to Space Room instead, and it turned out to be the best decision. The staff there were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Our kids had an amazing time, and the experience was everything we had hoped for. I will never return to Pups of War, and I cannot recommend it based on how we were treated. Save yourself the wasted trip and go somewhere that values its customers.

ʻAiea Loop Trail is a birder's dream and my current favorite trail on Oʻahu. I don't know how much…read morethe Yelp community intersects with the birding community, but I was drawn to ʻAiea Loop Trail because of the eBird app. I heard both the ʻApapane and the Oʻahu ʻAmakihi on my first trek here, but I did not get to photograph them properly for ID purposes (let alone for aesthetic photography). It was on my second trek on the trail that I was able to get up high enough to video record both the ʻApapane and the Oʻahu ʻAmakihi. It was a magical moment, cut short because I started my hike too late. It was also on this second trek that I also heard what I believe to be the Oʻahu ʻElepaio. I have yet to see it or photograph them, but I believe in the rare bird rule of second attempts: I hear these birds before I see them, and I see them before I can photograph them (naturally). I have to return as soon as I can. If you aren't a birder (yet), there is still a lot to be gained from hiking this trail. The views of valleys full of greenery are simply gorgeous. Perhaps a given because Hawaii, but rainbows appear everywhere here. The trail is better maintained comparatively, and the loop isn't too long, although I accidentally started the loop too late and did not know how long it actually was until I completed it. I was so scared I was going to get stuck on the trail after nightfall, but thankfully I got out before dusk. Mosquitos are still a nuisance here, so be prepared.

After two heavy rain storms that caused flooding in the Islands some areas of the hike had whole hill sides that had numerous trees down. The trail is only passable because of the hard work of the parks crew. In normally shaded areas there is more because of this. It's really a sight to see the terrifying yet amazing strength of nature. The hike is about 5.5 miles long, not very hard with beautiful views.

But, the second time, the falls were gushing and had perfect clear water to jump into. I would say the hike to mildly challenging. There are spots that require concentration and focus so you don't fall. If it's muddy, it is way more challenging too. It can be confusing in some spots because it goes off two different ways but if you ask someone, you can figure it out easily. Along the trial, there are many beautiful views and spots for photos. And of course the falls are gorgeous. Highly recommend

Hiked this trail on a somewhat drizzly day. Which was perfect, keeping the heat down and clouds…read morekept it cooler. The views were nice although some were grayer because of the clouds. This is a ridge trail which includes drop offs on both sides although the trail is fairly wide as ridge trails go. The trail climbs up the ridge going down then up starting through forest and then onto a more exposed trails. The trail was slick in places so we wore crampons especially for downhills. Going up the trail you will see Mānana Trail sign to left and waterfall to right. Parking is in a residential area, so keep your voice down. Make sure to bring plenty of water, hats, sunscreen especially on a sunny day. I wore long tights, the ferns are scratchy. Started early to keep from being in sun at the heat of the day.

Great service!…read more December 30, 2015 We were able to take advantage of this place because of the military status of my sister-in-law, my late brother was in the U.S. Army. This is a one-stop place that offer special discounts to some of the best attractions and activities on Oahu and the neighboring islands. MWR stands for morale, welfare, recreation for Hawaii military personnel. We were assisted by an employee named Joshua. They had a numbering system to which you take a number and you will be helped when your number is called. We didn't know to do this but he came out and helped us immediately once we walked in the door. Perhaps it wasn't that busy at the moment yet. Joshua was helpful, witty and informative. He gave us pricing, best deals, and answered all our questions. He was patient with us and assisted us till the booking was finalized. We inquired about a tour at the Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and a place for a luau. We finally settled on Paradise Cove for a luau and some of our family members are going to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Aside from luaus they also offered discounts on shows, dinner cruises, tours and activities on land and on the water, event tickets, mainland theme parks and lots more! We did the trip to Moku Popoia which was perfect for getting to experience being out on the water as well as learning about the area. KBA had everything we needed for the trip from wet bags to a shop to snag any gear that we may have forgotten. The area is a great spot to experience a cool part of the island with solid food options close by and having beach access.

Even though we have done this excursion many times, there's always a twist. On our latest adventure, we got to see five monk seals, with two of them playing in the ocean like little puppies. We had a good group and had time to do extra things on this trip. Our guide, Tupre, made it a fun and interesting tour, throwing in historical and additional wildlife information. This experience solidified our decision to book Kailua Beach Adventures on our next trip to Oahu.
