Update: Now, I've had both hair and lash service. The review on the bottom was for my lash lift service. This review will be for hair service. On a Friday, I decided I wanted to color and cut my hair. Like the change of season, I wanted to change things up as well. At first I wanted a gray balayage and I called the salon, Dana had explained that it is a very long process so it has to be scheduled in advance. No problem, after further thoughts, I didn't want to kill my hair. So, I booked a haircut appointment with the possibility of ash balayage. I came and Sasha helped me. I told her I wanted ash balayage and cut. Sasha was formative. She had warn me that it may take more than 1 try to get ash(because of my red understand). I may have to come back for a follow up toner appointment to get there. I was fine with that, as long as I'm not brassy orange. What was supposed to be 2 hours became 4. I had red undertones from before, therefore, it took 2 lifts to get the red to lift. Then it took two toners to get the color to be neutralized. I wanted ash balayage but it came out more chocolate caramel. Though, it wasn't exactly wanted but it turned out nicely done. I came in at 3pm and left at 7:15pm. I really appreciated the patience and time she took to finish my hair. I value salons and stylists who don't cookie cut and half ass the job. I could see that Sasha had spent the time and energy to work on my hair to give me the best result I could get. I'm excited for my sunkissed hair. - - - Came to this salon looking for a lash lift and left looking fluttery. I made an appointment with Jessica for a lash lift. My lashes are long and I just don't wanna crimp them everyday. I've had lash lift before so I knew what to expect. What I really liked about Jessica's service is she is careful, meticulous and communicates the process well. Especially for me because I wanna know what ppl are doing with my eyes! I love this salon! I've been coming here for every haircut (when I do have them) for the past 1.5 years. For my first appointment, I walked in the door and asked Dana, the owner, to cut off all my hair. It was a lot of trust to put in a stranger, especially for something so dramatic, but I hadn't had much luck finding hairstylists that understood my type of hair (curly type 2 with lots of frizz) at other more well-known salons in Hayes Valley or Union Square. I told Dana what I wanted to do, and she understood. She took me from long hair (mid-back!) to a very cute, feminine pixie cut last year with color. She also gave me helpful tips on how to keep my hair healthy -- which, by the way, worked! Unlike many other salons, she's not pushy about selling products. She's also wonderful to chat with and a kind person. Now that I'm growing it out (growing out a pixie cut gives you wonky hair for a good year or so), she's been able to help me style it and cut it in such a way that looks natural. I went to Dana a few times. The first time my haircut was good. The second time it was great. The third time... she doesn't have a receptionist and instead of letting things go to voice mail she answers the phone. I don't mean she stops cutting and answers the phone, she has the phone in one hand and the scissors in another. No surprise that my layers weren't even and it looked pretty bad. The second day was even worse so I asked if I could come back to have her fix it. She said fine but was such a b*%&$ about it that I never went back. I came to Nefertiti's because my roommate recommended it and it was near my home. I went for a trim and a deep conditioner by Dana, I also regularly got my eyebrows waxed by the nail salon woman. The staff is very nice and accommodating. I went today to try to blend in my blonde with my natural color because my roots had grown out a bit. After she put in my blonde highlights I immediately noticed a horizontal blonde line in my hair where the highlights had messed up. I also noticed that the highlights were missing on huge patches on the top of my head. When I mentioned both things to her she said she could fix the line by dying the hair around it my natural color. She then parted my hair crooked so that the highlights looked more even. From that, I knew that she did not part my hair correctly when putting in the highlights originally. I took a break while she finished up another client and I facetimed a friend to make sure I wasn't crazy and to confirm that it did look really bad. I probably should have just left at that point, but I thought maybe she would fix it and be accommodating, she seemed reasonable. I really didn't want to embarrass her in front of other clients by complaining in front of them so I waited until they left to say anything. I had confidence that she would recognize the issue and make sure I was satisfied in the end. I really didn't want to be rude, though I was very disappointed so I tried to be as nice and honest as possible but she did not own up to messing up the highlights. I then asked her to color my hair its natural brown color instead because the highlights looked so bad. I thought for sure, she would do a good job on fixing it, but instead she did a quick (temporary) fix that I didn't even ask for. Originally, we had discussed this idea and she told me she would need to pull the green out from my hair and then color it twice so the color would stay. As she is putting the dye in my hair, I confirmed with her again that we would be doing this twice, because I got the feeling that she was ready to get out of the salon. After already putting the dye in my hair, she tells me no, that is a semi-permanent color. I was really frustrated at this point because she did not tell me the color wasn't permanent, she was just temporarily covering up the job that she had messed up. On top of that, it wasn't even my natural color. I mentioned to her what she had originally told me how the process would take 2 dye jobs and her response was "well yea we can do that, but it'll be darker". I never asked for temporary color or was told that it was temporary color and I really wish she had owned up to messing up the highlights. I genuinely liked her and the rest of the staff. I wanted to get my hair done for my birthday but now I am disappointed and have lost a good chunk of money. At the end, she charged me just for the highlights, but I really shouldn't have paid for any of it. It was late and everyone in the salon was leaving, so I think she just wanted to go home but I really wish she would have apologized and offered to take me in another day to correct it. She didn't really seem to care about my business which felt really bad since I am there pretty regularly, and the fact that I had considered her feelings and been respectful about bringing up the mistakes. read more

I was looking for a salon that wasn't too overpriced. I can't justify spending $90+ for something I'm going to have to do again in 6 weeks time. I got a simple cut and some layers put in. At first I was a little nervous at how much my stylist was taking off but it turned out fabulous. My hair looks like it has so much volume now which is near impossible for these poor locks. Also, buy the Joico. That stuff will work wonders for your hair. Bonus points for friendliness and a super relaxed atmosphere. Edit: Joico ended up weighing my hair down and making it look greasy. I'm not sure how the stylist was able to manage it in the salon, but once I got home the product just left my hair a horrible mess. I also remembered that if you use their ipad to make a credit/debit card transaction, there's no way to add a tip properly. It only allows you add a tip on the full amount (products included) not just the haircut, so bring cash. read more

Came hear on Valentines Day :) Basic color & tiny teeny dusting off the ends, barely a trim...which is GREAT b/c that's what asked for :) Color matches & covers my grays! Thee only thing I noticed was that the dye wasn't totally rinsed out of my hair, it felt heavy & crunchy almost. Went home & washed & loved it still. For as little as I got done trim-wise, I was hoping the cut cost would be less than a full woman's cut ($45-$60ish range?). Wish they did brows too, but I'm glad they were honest that it's not their forte. Which is cool by me. GREAT group of ladies, doesn't matter your ethnicity, gender or whatever. GREAT place to take your child for a hair cut!! I took my 2 yr old the other day and Dana was wonderful. She is a mom herself and really knows how to coax a child into getting their hair cut. Her salon is incredibly child freindly. She has toys out for them to play with. She only charges $8 for a child haircut. I highly recommend Dana! I was looking for a place that would do a drop-in on a Saturday because I just decided today that I really needed a haircut. Fortunately, Dana had a no-show and was able to accommodate me for a walk-in. All I needed was a trim for my long hair, so I didn't want to spend $130 like some salons charge.
